How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.

Verified reviewLovely stay at the Blossom Inn, just off the main strip and nearby Nine Arch and Little Adam’s Peak - the family are lovely and helpful, and can help you plan your days whilst staying in Ella. I stayed an extra night last minute and they sorted it for me with about 5 minutes notice, very grateful. I would book to stay here again.

The room was stuffy, floor was dirty, full of mosquitos and we got bitten in the night when the power went out because we couldn't use the fan. They were also a bit difficult about payment, saying it was one price and then changing at the end of the stay, we paid a bit extra in the end and then when they didnt have change for my tuk tuk to the train they told my friend I didn't want to pay, but the issue was they didnt have change. So that was upsetting. It was a lot for what we paid overall. The pineapple juice we ordered was extremely watered down. They didnt offer extra toilet paper we had to ask each time, the toilet bin wasn't emptied daily so the bathroom smelt bad. I have stayed in much nicer places for less money in Sri Lanka. I didnt sleep well for 4 nights. It was disappointing because all the reviews say how comfortable the beds are.

Verified reviewThe location was the best! Just a short walk of the busy street in Ella but in a nice and quiet street. The room was nice and spacious for the three of us but more can fit easily. Also the communal area is very nice to relax. The family that runs the hotel is so sweet. They gave us tips to do in the heat to cool down. My son loved playing with the cats 😻

The rooms are very clean and comfortable great shower and a spacious balcony ,and very close to the center of town, But the best part was the lovely owners, they gave us a very warm .welcome and helped us a lot . Verified reviewWe stayed at Blossom Inn during our time in Ella and overall had a good experience. The room was very clean, as was the bathroom, and we appreciated the mosquito net over the bed and the fan — which was more than enough for Ella’s mild temperatures in May, sometimes even too much! The location is quite central, making it easy to walk to the Nine Arch Bridge, Little Adam’s Peak, and the town center. It’s also close to several restaurants, which was very convenient.
We chose this guesthouse because we had heard that the family running it was very helpful and available to organize trips and transport. Unfortunately, we believe we arrived at the wrong time, as it was during the Vesak holidays, and Dimitri (the woman managing the place) was quite busy with the celebrations. For example, we had asked in the morning for help getting to some waterfalls, and she only responded at 10 PM — by then, the information was no longer useful. They did give us a tuk-tuk ride once, but at a relatively high price compared to local standards, which was a bit disappointing given the expectations. Another downside was the checkout policy: although the room was free and not rebooked, we were asked to vacate it by 11 AM, even though our airport taxi wasn’t scheduled until 7:30 PM. We could leave our backpacks there, but had no access to a bathroom or a place to rest during the whole day. This felt a bit inconsiderate — something that would likely be handled differently in Europe. That said, the place is quiet, clean, and well-located, and it has potential for a great stay if visited at a less busy time.

I’m sorry to hear that some parts of your stay didn’t meet your expectations, and I’d like to offer a few clarifications: Your visit happened to fall during the Vesak holidays, one of the most important religious and cultural times in Sri Lanka. As I mentioned to you in advance, I was involved in organizing a dansal — a local charity event providing free food to the public. While I was a bit busier than usual, I still tried my best to help. Regarding your interest in visiting the waterfalls, your request came a bit late, and while I responded that evening, I understand it may have been too late for your plans. I truly apologize for the inconvenience. For your tuk-tuk ride, I initially arranged a friend to take you, but due to an unexpected issue with his vehicle, my father kindly stepped in to ensure you still had transport. The price may have seemed higher, but please note that transport in Ella is generally more expensive than in other areas due to its popularity with tourists. As for checkout, our standard policy is to vacate the room by 11:00 AM. If you had requested a late checkout, we would have tried to accommodate you based on availability, possibly for a small additional fee. That said, we safely stored your luggage and gave you access to the bathroom from the same room later in the day before your departure. Throughout your stay, I supported you in the ways I could — even during a very busy holiday period — and I genuinely hope that with better timing, your experience would have been more enjoyable. The room is a bit small, especially if you have luggage, there was a start of mold, humidity is high, the house has some construction going on and it was right under the window, the towels were pretty old and had a weird smell.

Verified review- The homestay is in a quiet & peaceful location within walking distance to the noisy main road. We walked everywhere, including to Ella Rock trailhead, Little Adam’s Peak trailhead, and Nine Arch Bridge - Our room was spacious - we got the family room for the AC and it can fit 5 people but we were only 2 - The beds and pillows were comfortable - AC worked well - Shower pressure and hot water were good - Clothes rack in the room - The host was rather helpful whenever we had queries - There was a power cut during our stay (this is common in Sri Lanka) and we appreciate that she informed us in advance so we could charge our devices etc first.
- I think the biggest thing was the taxes being charged when this was not stated in the booking, and we were not told of this in advance. The host said she was discussing with booking.com to include this information but it should not have been arbitrarily added on before it’s properly included in the booking, or at the very least, the host should inform guests about it in advance when we book. - No hairdryer in the room. We borrowed one from the host and it spoilt during our first use with a burning smell and there was no other hairdryer available.

As for the hairdryer, I’d like to clarify that it was in perfect working condition when provided to you, as confirmed by our records. Unfortunately, it stopped working during your use, and I had to personally cover the repair cost. While many hotels charge double the original price for such damages, I chose not to ask for any reimbursement as I felt it was inappropriate. However, I do hope guests understand that unexpected damages can be a challenge for small accommodations like ours. We truly appreciate your stay and your feedback, as it helps us improve. Just a tip, because it's in town you will hear music and celebrating on the weekends. If you want complete quiet nights go to a place where you have to walk to town. I liked being close to everything I need after hiking and I travel with earplugs. 😁

The rooms are well kept and the location is perfect (just as short walk into Ella Town). Whenever I needed something sorted, whether that be recommendations, a scooter, a tour guide for my Ella Rock hike, a driver, laundry, the hosts were immediately responsive and happy to help. I cannot recommend Blossom Inn enough!
