Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

AustraliaThe water in our bathroom was yellow which was quite off putting. They sent us off with wet laundry - would have preferred they told us it wouldn’t be dry in time.
Very friendly and helpful staff who can organise tuk tuks, taxis, scooters etc for you. Lovely big rooms with comfortable beds. Great peaceful location.

AustraliaThe bathroom missed some comforts from home like a bath mat, hand towel, hair dryer with right plug and toiletries.
Eminence is a friendly BnB with only 3 rooms. Aku was very helpful with local tips and he organised his mother to do a cooking class with us. Bobodu looked after us well and took our bags down to the main road. Breakfast was fabulous too.

We absolutely adored our stay at Eminence Ella. The staff are some of the friendliest we’ve ever met - nothing was ever too much trouble. They went above and beyond in every way, from organising a free tuk tuk for us to offering free laundry and a lovely little Western breakfast each morning, all at no extra cost. The rooms are super cute and cosy, very clean and tidy, and feel more like a small hotel than a guesthouse. Ours had a charming mural on the wall and the views from the property were absolutely exceptional. The bathroom had hot water and soap provided, which was perfect after a long day of exploring. It’s up a steep hill, but tuk tuks and drivers can easily bring you right to the door. A nice bonus - you can use the neighbouring hotel’s pool for a small fee, and they serve great cocktails too. For the price, this place is excellent value. We really loved it here and would happily come back.

AustraliaThis property is absolutely amazing! There is a steep climb to get to it, but it is worth it for the view! The property staff are very friendly and helpful - to helping you book bus tickets, to dropping you to the bus or train station etc. The room was clean and spacious with a very comfortable bed. The breakfast was very yum and filling. Could not recommend a stay here more.

AustraliaAs mentioned in other reviews, it is quite a steep incline up to the accomodation. It is about five minutes. It is very doable but a bit tricky with suitcases. Just something to be aware of if you have bad knees.
The view from the rooms is gorgeous! Aku and the staff were so helpful organising taxis, tuktuks, tea, breakfast and laundry. Very close to Ella town but felt like we were secluded in the mountain.

United KingdomJust be aware that to get the incredible mountain views, the hotel is up a rather steep incline.
Great room with a stunning view! The staff were fantastic and really helpful. Breakfast was amazing and you can have get tea/ coffee throughout the day. The location is just off the high street into town so it’s easy to go for food. A wonderful stay here, thank you very much!

LebanonIts a little uphill but this is the case of all hotels in Ella… for the view make the effort! But if u rent a scooter that would be no problem at all
The staff were super friendly, helped us with the scooter rental and the yala safari tour. Location was super! Few minutes away from the main street with restaurants and right in the middle of the most beautiful panorama. I would come here again and again

United KingdomNothing really! The hotel is at the top of quite a steep hill, which might be something to consider if you have mobiiity issues, but the plus side of that is the great views.
The views from our terrace were amazing. All staff were really helpful and would bring drinks to our terrace as and when we ordered them. The room was clean and comfortable, as was the bathroom.

United KingdomThe sign is obvious at the property and only a short walk from the station or restaurants and bars but tricky to see the stairs down to the rooms.
Hosts were great and couldn't do more to help. WiFi and Aircon were good. Nice to get a hot shower in a big bathroom. Comfy bed. Amazing view of waterfalls and mountains.

PolandSome people mentioned steep hill, but it's good for the heart, just few minutes walk:) for me it definitely wasn't a disadvantage:)
I would give 11/10 if I could! Aku was the best host we've ever had. Extremely helpful with anything we needed, lots of advices, organizing transport etc. And still with respecting our privacy, we felt very comfortable. Place has awesome view, very close to the main road and completely isolated and quiet at the same time. And having coffee&tea in the morning with stunning view! Awesome!

HungaryAKI is the BEST Host we could have, he managed everything for us as carefully as possible. UDERA is the BEST Tour Guide and a GREAT Photographer. He really did more than 100% to satiesfy our needs. We spent a day together and soulth the most scenic places in Ella. He showed us more than we expected! We got also breakfast surprisingly free of charge, which was not only delicious but home made, traditional and they took care of our food allergies. The view was amazing with the Waterfall and the train just like the nature and green environment everywhere and the city center is only some minutes to walk / tuktuk. We had a phantastic time❣️Highly recommended❣️ Thank you for everything Guys, you are amazing❣️

Located at the top of a hill with a beautiful outlook of Ravana waterfall in the distance. You can see trains going past regularly. It’s just far enough out from Ella’s main strip to be very peaceful, but close to the action (it’s walkable). The manager (Aku) is very helpful in arranging everything you might be interested in, including a cooked breakfast every morning, free laundry, a great Tuk Tuk driver (Udara) and even arranging a free cooking class with his mum—she’s a great chef! Couldn’t ask for much more. Ideal place to stay in Ella.

United KingdomSteep walk up to the property but it's worth it and you can always get a tuk.
Great place! Amazing views over the valley and the waterfall in the distance. The right distance from the banging tunes and chaos of Ella, close but not too close. The staff were super helpful greeting us with a cold juice on arrival and carrying bags and arranging a tuk tuk for us to get to the train station for the Ella/Kandy train at 5.15am. The room was big, clean and cool with those views outside the big windows. Would highly recommend!
