How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
Guidelines and standards for Reviews
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

Verified reviewThe 4 bed dorm did feel like a twin room because there are two rooms with each two (big) single beds. There was a big private bathroom.
The aircon was only in one room, the second room belonging to the dorm was still way to hot.

Verified reviewReally great stay with Hash and Vi. They are really friendly and organise the safari, they take you straight from the home stay to the national and are the guides for the tour. We also went out for a sunset in a local spot! Amazing experience 😁

Verified reviewYou just feel like home here. Host is very helpful and arrange everything on request. The rooms are okay but not the best. Rooms have only fans with mosquito net. Good place to meet other travellers. Nearby the new town bus station and a short bike ride away from the ancient city. Overall a nice stay and good price/quality ratio

Verified reviewIt's a good place for a short stay in Anuradhapura and great value. The rooms are tightly packed, and there isn't a lot of space to move around or even place your baggage, but for one night, it was okay. They have bikes for rent, which is great!

Verified reviewSaff was very kind and helpful. The owner was amazing, he spent time giving me a lot of informations and even arranged me a temple tour with a guide in ten minutes. Great value for the price. I absolutely reccomend this this place. They even organize safaris in Wilpattu Nacional Park for a good price.

Verified reviewFantastic hostel experience! Such a lovely host family. I felt very well taken care of. The overall vibe was really good. No bunk beds, but a double bed all for yourself! And AC in the rooms. Great location as well. Also possible to do Wilpattu safari from the hostel, which was so much fun, and for the best price you can get. If you have the chance to stay at this lovely hostel, please do! :)

Verified reviewGood location close to all the restaurants and shops. They also organised safaris and other guided tours. I did the safari which was a bit expensive, but worth it! The staff is nice and can give you good recommendations for the area.
The rooms and bathrooms were very dirty. Didn’t seem to be cleaned before we arrived. There is no hot water and we found some slugs hanging around in the bathrooms. Also, in the 2 days we stayed there were multiple (long) power outages, which is okay, but the staff didn’t seem to do any affort to fix it. Because of this the rooms got very hot without AC/fans working. Had to ask for blankets (?).
we are really sorry for the inconvenience. For our guests we do provide blankets when someone asks, because as you have mentioned, the climate is warm here. same applies for the hot water. I'm sorry with the power cut, it's not something that we have in our control, it was a city wide power cut. we informed the electrical department, and got the confirmation that they are fixing it. Because that is all we can do with the issue. Rooms were hot because of this. We don't advertise A/C rooms but we do provide A/C as a nice gesture without extra charge, since it gets warm here these days. For the washrooms we do a deep clean 2 times a day, and for privacy reason we don't go inside the rooms to check it. We would've appreciated your feedback on it when this matter occurred. We would've made sure that everything was up to the standards. I am really sorry that we couldn't make your stay more comfortable.

Verified reviewI was 1 month in Sri Lanka and honestly, staying here was the highlight of my trip. It's super centric and good for backpackers. You have drinking wáter and tea for free and the family that runs it's super nice and helpful. MOST IMPORTANT, they also run some amazing tours!!! I booked for willpattu and had the chance to see lots of animals, deers, buffalos, an Elephant and even two leopardos. The driver and the guide did their best to gave a magical experience. 10/10

Verified reviewThanks to the family that run the place it feels much more like a homestay with dorms than a hostel, and has lots of communal space. The breakfast is a simple omelette, bread and bananas but is very good value. Great location, big beds with mosquito nets and clean enough.
Not much! If you need a hot shower you won't find it here.

Thank you very much.
