How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
Guidelines and standards for Reviews
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

Verified reviewFood in the nearby place- sister in law of our owner has this lovely place called Bees Honey and Cookery Tadty and cheap. Really cheap-big breakfast is round 2 usd pp. We even took cooking lessons. Basic accomodation, authetic in a village outside Ella. The host family lives in a house. We got a room on the 1st floor. No net on the window but no bugs- only ants first night. Host's teenage son took us everywhere by tuk-tuk since that is your only option because Pickme and Uber dont go there. 8000 LKR return -Lt. Adams Peak, 9arch Bridg e nad Ravana Falls (with waiting) 1000 LKR-one way to the Ella centre.
No net on the windows, no wifi actually, power suplly is sometimes cut.
I appreciate your comment. The reason for this is that the switch on the wifi router was not turned on. The power supply was cut off for a few hours one day due to maintenance work in the area. It was not really our fault. Thank you.

Verified reviewWe travel around Sri Lanka about once every 2 months. This is the best place where we could stay for 3 days comfortably, like our own home. The rooms are better than we expected. Especially the staff is very friendly. They always took care of our comfort. We are especially grateful for that. We were able to make our Ella trip a success as we planned, as we received more comfort and good service than we paid for.
thanks sir

Verified reviewLovely little property just outside of town, everything was very clean and had all amenities we needed. The owner even gave us a lift into town when it was raining and helped to organise a lift to the station.
Nothing!
thanks madam

Verified reviewClean and tidy and just out of town. A great walk along the railway to get to Ella town. The restaurant “Bees Honey” just a short walk away, serves great home cooked food and has an awesome view over the valley.

Verified reviewThe price was ok. The bed and the bathroom were pretty good. Quiet at night.
The biggest downside was no AC. The room was so hot you almost couldn't stay in it during the day. The staff was nice but communication was quite difficult. Absolutely no view, you get a balcony but it's 5 meters from the neighbours and they see everything you do in the room unless the curtains are closed. Very exposed. Quiet location, but far away from everything. We only talked with the owner on whatsapp. Couldn't get a breakfast. Looking back we'd much rather stay in a place right next to this one on the same street which was 2x more expensive, but had an actual view, AC and everything else.

Verified reviewA Truly Unforgettable Stay at Gems Moon Paradise Room! From the moment I arrived at Gems Moon Paradise Room, I knew I was in for a special experience. The room itself was nothing short of spectacular—immaculately clean, beautifully decorated, and designed to provide ultimate comfort. Every little detail was thoughtfully arranged, making it feel like a home away from home. However, what truly made my stay exceptional was the outstanding hospitality of the host. He went above and beyond to ensure that I had everything I needed, always greeting me with warmth and genuine kindness. His attention to detail, prompt responses, and willingness to assist with any request made my experience seamless and enjoyable. Whether it was offering local recommendations, ensuring the room was perfectly set up, or simply checking in to make sure I was comfortable, his dedication to guest satisfaction was evident in every interaction. The atmosphere of the place was incredibly serene, making it the perfect getaway for relaxation.

Verified reviewThe stuff was very nice and helpful. They helped us with many additional things during our stay (laundry, driving to sunrise hike and to our next location) so don’t hesitate to ask for anything! the location is nice, however it’s a bit outside of the main part of Ella which has both positive and negative sides. We loved that it was a bit outside from the touristic part, on the way to Ella Rock, with beautiful views and train tracks that you can see from family restaurant close by.
The negative side of location is that, as it’s a bit up from the main part of Ella city, you have to pay around 1000 rupees for tuktuk up. Otherwise it’s pretty tiring hike up so, take it into account if you want to spend lots of time in the touristic part of the city.

Verified reviewThe guesthouse was clean and great value, it’s a bit away from the centre of the town (on the way to Ella Rock) which is nice. We tried both Mama’s restaurant and Bees Honey restaurant which are nearby and excellent value. Also easy to reach the town on foot via a shortcut to the train tracks. The owner also arranged a tuktuk to take us up to the monastery and waited while we looked round.
There were only 2 electric sockets in the room and one was needed for the fan.

Verified reviewThe property is situated just outside of Ella but easy to access the Ella rock walk and also town via the railway tracks. We went as a group with our dog, so we were happy that the apartment could accommodate that.
We were disappointed with the condition of the property. The “kitchen area” and “sitting room” had a really moldy wall. The place hadn’t been finished to what we expected. The bathroom ceiling also was moldy and the bedding wasn’t great. All the balconies look right onto the neighboring houses so there was no privacy as we couldn’t use them. A little more work to the property would go a long way as it has a lot of potential and is a lovely space.

Verified reviewAlthough it is located a little far from the town, it has a quiet environment. It is a really good place. The facilities are adequate for the price paid.(The only problem was the water pressure in the shower was not enough.)
Nothing ❤️

Verified reviewThe property is located in a hidden Gem of the Ella’ mountains, with only 7 mins Tuc Tuc drive to the center; the silence is wild. The property comes with large rooms and cozy living room/kitchen room combined. I have to mention the generosity of Thilina, the owner - he offered us his help to come and pick us up from the train station free of charge. Also, he advices us the most beautiful spots that would be a MUST while visiting Ella. He took a day off from his job just to take us to the Diyalluma Waterfall and 9 Atch bridge, with his own car for such a low and symbolic price. His kindness is above and beyond. On the way back to the property, he phoned someone and booked 3 tickets for the highway bus to Galle. Made sure we sat in the bus 7am and we are left safe. Such a MAN, strongly recommend Thilina’s place.
thanks sir

Verified reviewVery nice and helpful owners. Comfortable bed with great mosquito net. AC also worked properly. There's private and spacious balcony in the room. We appreciated a kettle with mugs in the kitchen where tea was provided as well. The place is 5 mins walk from the main road with several small shops and restaurants. Walkable distance from Kitha Ella train station (better go on rails than going up the hill on the road) and also to Ella (20-30 mins). You can eat in the Bees Honey Restaurant nearby which is owned by the same family. They serve excellent meals and you can eat with lovely view on the country side. Make sure you try their local pancake, it's just 100 Rs (08/2024). Prices are very good and you can also experience cooking classes here. Definitely recommended!
Thank you very much sir for your valuable comments

Verified reviewReally nice location away from Ella town but only about 20 minutes to walk there if you do want to go in. Surrounded by beautiful nature. Has everything you need.
The fan in the room didn’t work very well but wasn’t a big issue as it’s not too hot at night.
