How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
Guidelines and standards for Reviews
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

Verified reviewIt is tiny compared to other hotel on same beach. But it was ok. The staff were friendly and the breakfast was free 😃 i got eggs and when i asked i also got pancakes and sausages. They have a small restaurant directly at the beach. They also have a small pool which can be used when sea is rough or with little children. You can book tours at the desk if you like to explore
They have some tables at the restaurant without wifi cause its too weak at beach

Verified reviewBeach front property. Very friendly staff. A good variety of food on the memu
Unfortunately as with many beaches apart from directly out front of the property the beach was strewn with rubbish and a significant amount of plastic bottles. Considering how hot SriLanka can be, a fridge in our room would have been a good addition

Verified reviewThis is a small family run hotel with direct access to the beach. Stunning views; you can watch the sea while having breakfast, and the sunsets are glorious. Staff were friendly but inobtrusive. They were helpful when we made requests. Breakfast is worth including: eggs, how you want them, fruit, toast, and coffee/tea. We stayed in the superior sea view room (we were in the middle one!). Large, clean room, shower room (modern), and a large balcony with seats, table, and towel/drying rail. Room cleaned, towels changed every two days. There is a small fridge. We were just here to rest after spending 15 days travelling in Sri Lanka, so the setup suited us really well. The Janus is about 4km from Bentota where you can find supermarket, atm etc. Tuktuks easy to hail from the road, cost around LKR 700 to Food City in off-season. The train line is very close, which is convenient for getting here, but also you can hear the trains - i have to say this was not a problem for us.
We can't identify anything we didn't like!
Thank you Sir, we dearly appreciate your kind words.

Verified reviewExtremely helpful and friendly staff who go out of their way to help. The food was amazing, with beautiful sea view from the restaurant. Rooms were clean and comfortable. Often had the pool to ourselves.
Intermittent WiFi and hot water. A short, slightly tricky walk to get to where we could walk on the beach as sea came right up to hotel at the time we visited.
Thank you Madam, we dearly appreciate your kind words.

Verified review1. Breakfast was real good. Staff was friendly and listened to our questions 2. Location, Swimming pool was real good. Rooms were comfortable - but not near each other. 3. They accomodated our dinner request that we paid and it was good as well - as we are all vegetarians.
1. They had like 4 dogs and few dogs jumped on my brother - when he walked out. We had told them - that some of the guests dont like dogs - but still the dogs werent friendly and some of the guests got apprehensive. 2. The Air conditioner - even though they stated it was new - didnt work. The rooms didnt get cold at all. Of the 4 rooms we stayed in only 1 worked. Other 3 - was so- so. Even after we complained the staff will come and press buttons on the remote - and tell us..give it 20,30 mins and it will be cold - but it never got cold. We complained atleast 4,5 times. 3. we requested rooms close to each other - but i think they dint have those types of rooms. one 4 - bed was near beach and 2nd 4 bed was in 3rd floor and other 2 rooms with 2 bed was near each other. 4. In 2 rooms we didnt get hot water - but give the hot weather[June 30 and July 1 2025] - we badly needed the a/c.

Verified reviewPerfect start of our road trip. We spent there 2 days. Excellent location, right on the beach. Perfect for the kids. Helpful staff. Nice, cosy bar and restaurant setup on the sand. F&B available all day long (local and international). Dont expect much on the room though. Basic room standard. Nothing fancy.

Verified reviewWe loved the location of the hotel. This hotel was our last four days in Sri Lanka and we wanted to relax on the beach so the hotel was perfect. We did not leave the hotel as the food and drink were all lovely with lots of choice and great prices for a hotel on the beach. Last but not least a thank you to the amazing staff, it is small hotel so we knew them all. They made our stay even better. They work so hard to make you feel welcome they are a credit to the hotel.

Verified reviewOn the Beach, breakfast, restaurant, staff, pool all good. On the outskirts of the town, remote...need to take a TukTuk to go shopping, but uncrowded beaches.
We booked a double room, which was very nice. However, the double rooms are in the back, away from the beach and next to the highway and railroad tracks, which is extremely noisy. We asked for a room change, but the hotel was full. Also, it rained and water was dripping from the ceiling onto the bed. Fortunately, we had a spare bed and could relocate. Be forewarned. Other than that, a nice hotel.
Thank you sir, we dearly appreciate your kind words.

Verified reviewWe are generally satisfied with the hotel. The staff is friendly and attentive. The room and bathroom are clean and there is plenty of storage space. The food is good but nothing special. Guests from other hotels also eat here, so it is advisable to book a table. As in many resorts, some guests claim the sun beds early in the morning by putting towels on them and returning to bed. Unfortunately, the hotel has little control over this practice.
The hotel's section of beach is cleaned up in line with neighbouring properties, but there is definitely room for improvement. All sorts of washed up debris, including plastic waste, is raked into a hole every morning and covered with sand - a method that could be reconsidered for better environmental impact.
