How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
Guidelines and standards for Reviews
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

Verified reviewThe host is really kind , and the rooms are large. It is a very simple guesthouse , with 2 restaurants in about 5 min walking distance. And the tour aswell as the transfer arranged by the host worked both smoothly ! If you need a simple inexpensive place to stay , to do a safari , this place is really good !
The bathroom is clean but very basic. And the region has not much to offer , beside the great safaris of course. So don't add extra days for "chilling & exploring" .

Verified reviewThis property is located in a quiet and peaceful area. Just a short walk from several restaurants. It's also conveniently close to the Hunuwilagama Entrance of Wilpattu National Park. The room was spacious and equipped with air conditioning along with essential amenities such as towels and toiletries. Both the room and the bathroom were spotlessly clean. All in all, it was a fantastic deal for the price. The host was friendly and helped us organize a safari in Wilpattu National Park. They also prepared a delicious breakfast of rice and curry for us to take on the safari upon request as well.

Verified reviewThe rooms were spacious and nice and the place is situated in a calm area which is nice
We had a room without ac, which is fine if the fan works properly, but the places where the beds were, were the spots where the fan did not really reach, so it was very hot in the room

The room wasn’t the cleanest, and the owner was very grumpy towards us/not really the friendliest.

Verified reviewDO NOT STAY HERE! Do not stay here for the safari and if you do do not let them organize it, it is a SCAM! We thought it was an official organized safari instead a guy who works at the guesthouse took us with a completely broken jeep, he did not speak a word of English, we were told that there would be a guide and there was not, the jeep turned off 8 times from the beginning of the "safari" it is funny to call it that because it was a ride in a broken and dangerous car that could never start again and sooner or later the next tourists who will do it will be like that we were lucky!!! The guy who was driving had no idea where to go or what to show us, he just drove randomly for 4 hours in the park. Quiet in silence. We were bored and it was frustrating, he went one way then turned around and went back they didn't understand if we were lost at certain times since he didn't say a word and we didn't see any animals, that is, not only cheetahs, not even an elephant. "Luckily" we didn't see any animals at all, I don't know what could have happened if we had seen a jaguar or elephant with the car off that took 10 minutes to turn it on again. AVOID IT LIKE THE PLAGUE!
We are very sorry to hear about your experience, and we sincerely apologize for the inconvenience caused. Your safari request came to us at the very last minute, and unfortunately, all our trusted safari jeeps were already fully booked at that time. Wanting to help, we arranged a safari through an external provider — which sadly did not meet the standards we promise our guests. We understand how this affected your trust in us, and we take full responsibility. That is why we are refunding the full safari amount you paid to our guesthouse. We also want to make it very clear: We have now taken strong steps to ensure that such a situation will never happen again. From now on, we will only confirm safaris we can 100% deliver with our trusted team and vehicles. At Lakwin Guest Wilpattu, guest happiness and honesty are our top priorities. We value your feedback and are committed to growing from it. Warm regards, Lakwin Guest Wilpattu Team

Verified reviewDecent value for money considering the proximity to the national park. We had a fan room but they also had A/C rooms. Couple of minutes walk to a restaurant nearby. I’d recommend if you’re stopping off for a safari trip!

Verified reviewReasonably priced budget accommodation with lovely staff but some with limited English. We booked a safari through them again at a reasonable price before we arrived. The Coco hut restaurant down the road does a great buffet. Definitely worth going as they are a lovely family who do great food.
The WiFi was great when it was on but I think it was switched off at times. I would happily spend a little more for the accommodation if the WiFi was reliable.
