Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

United KingdomThe breakfast is served from 8:30 - 10:30 and is a buffet. On the first morning there, we went down at 9:30 and there was barely anything left, some additional items were bought out but it was very sparse. The following morning, we made sure that we got there for 8:30 - seems everyone else had the same idea and once again the food provided on the buffet was finished within a matter of seconds. Despite their best efforts service is slow. We did have an issue with ants in our bathroom but we didn't need to raise this with the staff as we had some bug spray with us and it rectified the issue.
The location being right on the beautiful Nilaveli Beach is stunning. The rooms are well designed for families staying as they have a mezzanine level with additional beds. The staff are friendly and try their best to help. Highly recommend the Bruschetta - it is so tasty.

United KingdomBreakfast - there wasn't enough food for all of the guests. If you weren't at the front of the queue at 8.30, when breakfast started you didn't get much. The staff were slow to bring out and top up items. You had to repeatedly ask for.more things to be brought out. I asked for a pot of tea two mornings and were told they had no tea, in a country that is famous for producing tea. The coffee at breakfast was from a small perculator and wasn't enough and constantly had to ask for more to be made. Staff were slow to bring coffee or drinks when asked. We are in the restaurant one night and the food was delicious, but the portion sizes were very small. The covers on the loungers were heavily stained and needed washing.
The location was idyllic, walk out of the rooms and straight onto the beach. Delicious coffee.

United KingdomSome of the soft furnishings could be a bit cleaner but appreciate that it’s tricky with sand, water, and open air areas and it wasn’t a big problem to me. Service was sometimes a bit slow but staff were always polite and advised of delays during busy times.
Fantastic location, right on the beach, next to a dive centre, several beachfront restaurants within a short walking distance in either direction. Small cabana style hotel, with vintage/shabby chic interiors. Peaceful terrace with sun loungers steps from the beach and sea. Good breakfast with plenty of choice included. Cafe/bar/restaurant with varied menu of Sri Lankan and international choices (sandwiches, pasta, pizza). Delicious Sri Lankan curry (must be preordered as it takes a while to prepare). Good communication from owners after booking to arrange payment. Lovely staff, always polite, welcoming and helpful. Relaxing, laid back atmosphere. Nilaveli is lovely, not too busy or overdeveloped but with lots of activities (snorkelling, diving, fishing, whale watching) and beautiful palm fringed beach.

United Arab Emiratesthe rooms could be cleaner. (the fridge looked disgusting on the inside and not really usable) and some things don't seem to work. a little bit of maintenance and perhaps a little deep cleaning on occasion would go a long way here.
the restaurant and the reception are gorgeous. Obviously the place has been decorated by someone who knows what they are doing. Also in the room the style is maintained. very nicely done. and it is right on the beach! The food was great. we had a big sri lankan curry dinner for 4 people on the beach (reserve in advance) and it was a lovely experience.

United KingdomThey offer water downstairs so you can top up your bottles which is great in terms of cutting down plastic but it was never topped up so each time we came to use it it was empty.
Loved the vibe downstairs with the chilled out music, lovely decorations and loungers by the beach. The location on the beach was amazing. Food was delicious too.

United KingdomMore expensive accommodation and food also more expensive but for a short stay we felt ok about paying a bit more to stay at such a lovely place. Also, slow service - which we didn’t mind as relaxing.
Beautiful place! We loved our 3 nights at Memos beach. Comfortable beds, beautiful location and very relaxed vibe. Aesthetically very nice- lots of photo opportunities :)

SwitzerlandWe were a bit nervous to go here as we saw a few negative reviews, but this place is absolutely a little gem. We stayed in the villa for a week. A minute from the beach, a short walk over the beach to the hotel and surrounded with very nice local restaurants and bars. The villa has also a very beautiful garden with outside shower, a nice place to relax! About the hotel: very good food, lovely local staff who is always there to help you. We were sad to leave!

Hungary- the manager is very condescending, very rude towards guests, projecting his mistake to us - while staff is mainly nice, they often forget breakfast items like coffee/tea, and when we ask for it, it will take them 30-40 minutes to prepare it - staff’s English is very limited - no one mentions online that some rooms (eg. ‘villa - annex’ here on booking) is not at the actual hotel, but a 15 minute walk away on the beach in the sand (no lights at night) - in this ‘second hotel building’, the wifi doesn’t work well - the beach is not the cleanest
+ rooms are nicely decorated, comfortable and relatively clean + breakfast items were very tasty + you can always get beach towels and your drinking water bottle filled up + the beach/restaurant area is lovely + beautiful and well cared for plants everywhere + overall, food appears to be very hygienic and well seasoned too

NetherlandsNo mention of the distance to the breakfast/reception area.
My wife and I booked the 2 bedroom house. It’s a 2 min Tuk tuk or a walk on the beach to the reception. It was clean, quiet and spacious. It’d be a great spot with friends for a few days as you’re so close to the beach and you have 2 bathrooms, a full kitchen and an outside chill area. We’d definitely stay here again.

FranceBy the photos and location on booking we had the ideia that we would be at beachfront, and that was not the reality. We still stayed near to the beach, and everything was okay. Just a warning.

NetherlandsThey could communicate better. We were placed at the villa, which is a bit further on Nilaveli beach than the main hotel and restaurant, but we didn’t know that when we booked. We loved the place so in the end it didn’t really bother us, but it would be nice to know what you book for and which location it will be. The villa is still 100m away from the beach so really close and walking distance to the restaurant and main part of the hotel, but if you expect to be right at the beach than this can be a little disappointing. It wasn’t for us, but I get it that other people may find this a bit misleading. The staff is really nice and kind but they could improve their communication towards their customers :-)
Absolutely gorgeous aesthetics, the atmosphere in and around the hotel and restaurant are incredibly relaxed. The villa where we stayed (mind you: this was not part of the main hotel but at an accomodation of the hotel that’s a bit further on Nilaveli beach) was beautifully decorated as well, and really spacious. The bed was comfortable and we loved spending time at the beachbeds at the restaurant. Breakfast is great too. The staff really tries their best to manage everything and keep the place nice and clean.

United KingdomBecause it’s the best place to stay it attracts a lot of day guests wishing to pay for breakfasts, lunches, dinners and beach beds … would selfishly prefer if the arrangements were reserved for hotel guests only .
Beautifully appointed. The best place to stay on the beach - with chilled vibes and island style.

RomaniaIt was a pretty expensive hotel, and we paid 215 dollars per night with breakfast. Also cleaning in the room is not so good, like in all hotels from Sri Lanka. The service in the restaurant was pretty slow, but we knew this from the others' review, so we ordered the food from time. Also, being a cottage hotel, you can hear all noises from the other rooms.
It is a lovely location on the beach, very nice and carefully designed with friendly stuff. The room was with front view of the sea, we could see sunrise from our balcony. The food was also very good, we ate all the meals in our hotel. The water from the sea is very clean, the beach is sandy and the water has perfect temperature. The beach is not crowded, not so many hotels and restaurants, so it is perfect if you are looking for a quiet location.

GermanyEven tho the staff was really friendly and nice the atmosphere in the Hotel was not as nice as we expierenced it in other accomodations we stayed in Sri Lanka. The room is very small and in general the price is to much for what you get.
This place is located directly at the Nilaveli Beach which is a dream. Not a lot of people and very quiet. They have lots of beach beds to relax. The owners wife has a very good eye for the interior design and it‘s really aesthetic. The food was also very good. The staff was friendly.

United KingdomIt’s a bit tired and expensive for what you get. Breakfast was good but they only provided half of what was needed and you had to queue with other guests from 8am, even though it was often late coming out, otherwise it would all be gone by 830 as there wasn’t enough. The staff obviously don’t have a good environment or manager as all seem nice enough but no one went above and beyond or were willing to do any requests at all. Warning they only take cash and charge more than the booking.com price to process card transactions then there very difficult about it. Lastly the room was ok but more on the shabby than chic side and very noisy, could hear everything happening next door. I wouldn’t stay here again, something about it just didn’t feel welcoming, it’s a shame as great location.
Beautiful spot on the beach with nice room
