How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
Guidelines and standards for Reviews
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.

Thé description of the appartement and the pictures on booking website do not correspond to what is provided. For instance you can compare the pictures of the great bathroom on booking website and the picture of an other bathroom downstairs, with mold, dead spider, and electrical security danger. We booked 2 nights in a "luxurious appartement" and finally get one really great double room with the nice bathroom seen on booking website, opening on the terrace with a great view, but the three other rooms and bathrooms were not at all the same standard. They are situated appart from the first one, two and three floors under the terrace and the one situated at the bottom is so gloomy , with chicken wire behind the window, that none of us wanted to sleep there. It is not a real appartement but rather a big house, where the owner and his servant live with you, with lots of stairs everywhere, like a maze. There are at least two kitchens but hardly nothing in it to cook. And we had to insist to get the necessary plates / glasses / cutlery. Some new furniture, like the oven, are still under plastic protection and will probably stay like that a long time, as a showcase, since you are invited not to use them. We carefully advice you not to accept to pay before you visit the room(s) as some of them can be really desapointing. Obviously, the owner will reply, as he did to Susanne, that we were awfull guests. French primary school teachers like us, are well-known to be awfull persons. May be, as he remind to Suzanne, he will assert that he provided toilet paper, a bottle of water, and that let the gate open so that we can get out early in the morning. And that's perfectly true. But that is basic accomodation not at all a "luxurious appartement " .

This type of explanation you had passed on has little for me to consider such as poor cutlery, gloomy rooms, stairs inside the floors & big house rather than an apartment. How much you paid with compared to Kandy properties within 600m to the Kandy Lake? you paid 170 USD (per 8rooms in total). Per room you have paid 21.25 USD per night. Out of 4 rooms 3 rooms we gave you with high quality air conditioned rooms. We will pay water, electricity & service charges from that 21.25 USD in addition to the Bookig.com commission fee. What would you expect more than this pretty cheap deal when compared to the other properties within the 600m walking range to the Kandy Laka? This price I have given you with welcome drinks & snacks, toilet paper, bottled water & toiletries included. What a chaep deal for a AC room for USD 21.75 with a room with attached toilet & the fantastic mountain views from the room?? think about the price you pay & then weigh about the facilitie you get in return, for the dedicated service we provide such as 24 hours 2 staff (owner & the care taker) attending all your needs till you depart from the premisses why you haven't mentioned about the safety & the service we provide for the guests ?they all cost money from the very cheap room prices we have offered. Compared to the luxuries you enjoyed with 5 of your family memebers we provided WIFI unlimited for a the room price of USD 21.25 with Air conditioned & montain view room category. I believe you verbally appreciated as you came to the property & the kitchen facilities may be not quite adequate because for the room prices we do not encourage full cooking facilities due to safety considerations & supervision difficulties due to past unpleasant experiences we had. However, I appreciate your review & going forward from there I can takeyour feed back a sgenuine & will try to fix up the matters from the extent we could. For that room price I pay 2 on going staff to available for the guests through out your stay but you have given a score of 2.5 which is not acceptable. Beds are modern & all laundry we use are fresh from the laundry service providers & you have rated 2.5 so I cannot rely on this review as professional & genuine. I kindly request you to weigh out good & bad when you provide areview for a service providers in the hospitality industry because it should be away from biased & judgemental personal views that might totally ruin the dedicated services & human labour that we put in place where commodities & human labour is quite pricier than back in the day. I am very discouraged & very sad to see your review after providing you & 5 members quite better room facilities for 2 days aft er employing 2 fulltime staff at the premisses to serve you for the fullest assuring you & your family's safety as well. Verified reviewWe had a wonderful time at Walkers Nest Luxury Apartment . The place is incredibly clean and well-maintained , with a very calm and peaceful atmosphere all around. The surrounding view is absolutely superb perfect for relaxing and enjoying nature. The facilities were good , providing everything we needed for a comfortable stay. We truly enjoyed every moment of our stay here. If you’re looking for a serene and luxury getaway, we highly recommend this place. Loved everything about it!

You do not have a room with a bathroom ensuite. It’s separate and the balcony is separate as well. So actually three different areas to go to. Bathroom pictures are different than in reality. No luxury. (just the surrounding furniture of the house) Owners were really nice.
Hi Sussanne, You had booked 15$ double room but as a complement I offered you a family room with a spacious bathroom. You enjoyed the full kitchen & apartment with 2 bedrooms. You cannot complain as I had offered you 65 dollar 2 bed apartment instead of a double room that you had initially booked for. Even though I had to offer you a very comfortable room for a cheaper rate I had offered you full facilities including toilet rolls, 4 water bottles, 2 towels, 2 blankets, 2 bedsheets, complementary food items & late night opening of gate access so that you can enjoy your stay. Unfortunately the room was left with half eaten fruits & rubbish on the dressing table that had given marks on the wooden furniture while it was very disrespectful to leave a property like that. You only paid 30$ for 2 bed apartment & I reckon it was a jackpot for a couple when you can walk to Lake round in 600m. You did not even enjoy the balcony we offered to you as the whole day you were travelling & did not have time to stay in. I am not surprised that many foreign visitors leave biased & judgemental reviews to show how smart you are but do NOT forget the fact that with so much economic strain we provide a higher standard accomodoation while paying 22% commission to booking com as well. So you can genuinely imagine how profitable or impracticable to maintain this type of service in a country like Sri lanka. This is absolutely luxurous & you cannot underestimate the service we provide whatsoever.
