How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
Guidelines and standards for Reviews
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.

Room was dirty. Dead cockroaches and a lot of dirt in the bathroom. I dont think they really clean the rooms
even though we thoroughly clean the rooms and bathroom..this is the first and one isolated incident.. as I inspected the room before you checked in there was no cockroache, as we discussed the luggage you brought from the seashore had a lot of sand clinging to it ,it could also be that the cockroache snuck into your luggage while travelling and died in it and when you pulled out your stuff it fell in the room,if it was a live cockroache it's acceptable, besides when you checked in you were okay with the room,which means a dead cockroache was not in it,since you stayed one night there is no chance of a cockroache creeping in at night and just dying like that actually if anyone goes through all our past reviews there was no such incident with a cockroache..so there's no logic in this..anyways we will do our best

Almost all the plugs don’t work even on the extension, it was not practical to charge our phone The bathtub seems very fragile, I thought I would come through it every time I took a shower The shower hook needs to be replaced, I couldn’t put the shower head on it, it was very annoying to take a shower while holding the shower head The location offers a good view on the mountain but it is a bit far from the center (about 20 min by walk but it’s up and down hill and very steep !)
I understand the practicality with the extension was not from our side..if you had European plugs it would not have served the purpose..but if you had asked for the European plug..we would have gladly provided it..its all about communication...wish you all the best

Verified reviewThe room was a good size and very clean. The food, both dinner and breakfast, was delicious, and Suraj was a great host.
I was unwell and needed to rest, but it was difficult as there was constant loud music coming from a neighbour's house.
we are extremely sorry about the party at our neighbours which was not in our control..since it was a one day thing and hasn't happened before..wish you all the best

Verified reviewOur room was big and had an amazing view. The owner and housekeeper are absolutely lovely and welcoming people. The housekeeper even spoke Italian:) We had breakfast there which was super delicious! So I recommend trying what they cook because they’re really good. If you don’t mind staying a bit more in the silent side streets of Kandy, it’s perfect here, and also better to sleep through ;) Also the rooms have warm water showers.

The shower didn’t work very well with low pressure and no hot water.
We might have forgotten to show you how to switch on the hotwater..there is a switch a few meters away from the geezer, we will make sure we show how it works..thank you..and happy travels

Verified reviewI can't say enough kind things about this place. It's in a quiet, peaceful neighborhood, surrounded by trees, flowers, and greenery, perfect for rest and relaxation. Town is a short tuktuk ride away -- or, a fairly easy downhill walk. The house is spacious and clean. I'm so glad to have had the opportunity to meet and spend time with Suraj the host, and the lovely cook Vishakha. They are both such gems: friendly, welcoming, bright, communicative, and just an absolute pleasure to be around. The food is excellent. Lovely all around!
The booking was for a Double Room with Patio, and this room doesn't exactly have a patio, and is a bit dark. The upstairs shared balcony, nonetheless, was lovely. Also the internet was a bit spotty, though I understand this is being worked on.
