How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
Guidelines and standards for Reviews
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

Verified reviewAs the name says, right in the middle of the nature. You will go to sleep amd wake up with the chants of birs and insects. Also you will hear monks preaching dhama because you can see the nearby temple from the house yard. The family who offers the accommodation is very kind and friendly. It was a pleasure to stay there Thank you

Verified reviewThe place is a homestay immersed in the nature, which gives such a relaxing atmosphere. The room was big, clean and comfortable. Breakfast was big enough and tasty.
It’s some walk from the station, and not evident to find. If you aren’t fit, just hire a tuk tuk. A bit difficult interaction with the hosts, as they are living in the next building and you have to ring to their doorstep when you want to communicate with them. But overall, I managed to get everything I needed.

Verified reviewNature walk Ella consists of two semi detached properties each boasting a double room and shower room each with their own private front porch overlooking wilderness and mountains. The beds have mosquito nets and the shower facilities are great with decent water pressure. Access to the property is down a short unpaved steep path and not for those with mobility concerns! but it is well worth the effort. Breakfast is fabulous and will set you up for the day. Great place to stay which is away from the noisy touristy Ella town which is about a 15-20 minute walk away.

Verified reviewI had high hopes fron this place based on the description and reviews! It is a solid choice, but it didn’t meet expectations. I am writing this with mixed emotions. The place feels like quiet place in nature and thanks to the set-up very private! We enjoyed the terrace and views. The place Overall was nice and clean. We started and finished on a high - we were welcomed by some tea and cookies, which were very appreciated after a long train journey. The send off was also warm, they ordered us a Tuk Tuk and carried the bags up to the main road.
We were missing the interactions with the hosts. After our arrival until our departure there was little interaction. No hints and tips, people to ask questions. It is something that we had grown to love at other guest houses… The location itself sounded based on the info provided much closer to town / train station, then what googled maps gave us … which was a bit of a let down at first, as distance was a jet Filter in our criteria, until we discovered a short cut. This would have been great to be informed about by the hosts. Not a negatives but more an fyi - the Drive way is a steep and still work in progress! Not suitable for a vehicle to go down. Hence, I would not recommend the place for people with suitcases.

Verified reviewEverything is just perfect. Highly recommended for solo travelers, families, groups, everyone! The host, I guess, Itushi (sorry if I am wrong with the name) and her family are really warm people. Also, not to forget her 3 dogs.
There's nothing not to like about this homestay. Yeah, a bit away from the town, some may require to hire a tuktuk. But if you can walk 10mins, it's really not a big problem.

Verified reviewThe room was humid, and the bedsheets/towels were still wet when we checked-in 11pm. We had to request new sheets and change them ourselves. Pictures do not match the real look and we do not understand the previous reviews.

Verified reviewGreat breakfast, a nice terrace, the option to order lunch or dinner, excellent communication with Dinesh, a clean room with fresh sheets, a thicker blanket perfect for Ella, hot water, and a beautiful view.
Be careful with the bathroom window to prevent frogs from coming in, as it cannot be fully closed.

Verified reviewWe stayed three nights, and different breakfasts were served daily, with a taste of Sri Lankan cuisine.
You need to walk down to the property, and if you carry a lot of luggage, you may find this challenging. If you don't have much luggage and enjoy the walk up and down, this really is a hidden gem that gives value for money!

Verified reviewI spent a week here. The place was very clean, super cheap and came with breakfast and for a small additional charge, dinner was included. The WiFi worked well, but signal also works well if you need to work. There is a nice table outside to work on too. If you rent a scooter, the town is 2 mins away. Gym is 5 mins away. To walk is around 10-15 mins.
A small steep hill to leave the property, it didn't bother me but if you struggle with walking, it may be a problem.

Verified reviewThe breakfast is the best I have had since coming to Sri Lanka. I'd stay here just for that. It a family home located in the rural outskirts of Ella. They are very friendly and hospitable (classic Sri Lanka). The mosquito net works and there is a fan in the room. The area in front of the room is so peaceful and a sun trap. We loved spending the morning, after breakfast, reading here and looking at the view.
I think due to the heavy rain while we were there and lack of sunlight. The room was fairly damp.
