How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
Guidelines and standards for Reviews
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

Verified reviewThe host family was super friendly. Dinner was amazing. Everything was freshly cooked with home grown vegetables. Breakfast was great, too. Many fresh fruits and everything was very tasty. The view from our room was great and due to the very isolated location, there is no traffic noise.
The room was small and basic. The bathroom is very basic and humid. There are some mouldy spots. Access is very difficult and only possible via tuk tuk. It's too far away to walk and the path is also not pleasant. You need to count 800-1000 rupees for one way.

Verified reviewGorgeous views from the balcony and terrace. Lovely kitty snoozing in the sun. Polite, helpful and smiley hosts ready to help us with whatever we needed. Varied and ‘just enough’ breakfast (we found lots of places in Sri Lanka overfed us in the mornings and then we felt bad having to waste food). The home stay is basic but charming and was one of our favourites in Sri Lanka overall, it’s so peaceful!
I can only repeat the other reviews and say do be warned that the property is at the top of a broken and steep mountain road. It’s only a 20 minute walk to town but that walk requires a degree of fitness due to the terrain. If you take the tuk tuk (which the home stay are great at arranging for you), be prepared for a bumpy journey. We stayed in the room with two double beds, which, whilst great from a bed perspective, did mean that there was no space whatsoever in the room to really even open your suitcase. But it’s basically as advertised and the beds are comfy.
thank you

Verified reviewThe outside area was nice as well as the location and the view. The breakfast was outstanding and the wife of the owner was very kind to us. The owner was funny and showed us his farm work and crops, which was very interesting.
The ceiling of our room was moldy. This caused bad smell in the room. But we also saw that he is working on new, very nice rooms. Even though the owner was nice to us at all times, he was a bit clingy sometimes, for example when we came back from trips, he was waiting in front of the property for us, even in the night. I think he wanted to be responsible, but it was a little bit too much. Once he invited us to a beer and gave us the impression that it was free, but at the end he charged us unexpectedly for the beer.

Verified reviewBeautiful place with a great view! The host is very kind and her cuisine is delicious! I recommend trying her food! The room is comfortable and the patio with the hammock is super! Surrounded by nature and animals! They also help you with their tuktuk to go to the center ! But it’s a walkable distance anyway.

Verified reviewThis place is very special. Run by the sweetest family in their own home, the rooms have great views over the fields. The food is amazing: Really tasty Sri Lankan rice and curry with fresh home-grown vegetables from the family’s fields. The location is also fantastic at the end of waterfall road away from noisy Ella. A small footpath close by leads to the railway line from where you can access the hiking trails to Ella rock. We were here with three kids and it was great. The host couple is so good with kids and they loved playing with the cats.
We had an amazing stay but be aware that this is simple accommodation with your hosts living close by and that it is a 10 minutes bumpy tuk-tuk ride to Ella city. They have a tuk tuk and can help you get there.

Verified reviewMrs. Damiante, Mr. Ari and son Janidu did everything to make us feel comfortable. Farmers Paradise is just a 20 minutes walk from the center of Ella (via the railtrack even quicker and easier), so it offers rural calm. Breakfast and dinner were prepared with care anf fresh products by Damiante, and in between tea or coffee were offered. In one word our stay here was EXCELLENT.
Nothing really

Verified reviewIf you want to experience a home stay in Ella I would highly recommend this place. The husband is a farmer and they grow all the veg so everything that is cooked for you is fresh from the garden. They are the sweetest couple ever! We also done a cooking class with the wife and she welcomed us in to her kitchen cooking all of the food grown in the garden. Location is so peaceful! Great experience and would highly recommend.
Nothing!

Verified reviewFamily is super friendly and helpful. Lovely breakfast and dinner. Food is fresh, local (from their own farm) and prepared in a delicious sri lankan way. View is stunning. You wake up to unbelievable natural beauty.
Location is OK - depends on what you are looking for. It is a 20 minute walk into City and you have 2 options. One is using the train tracks which requires a mini hike (not good for small children or babies) - lovely walk once you are on the tracks and its usually flat except the start and end. The other is using the main road which is very hilly and bumpy - very up and down. This is longer walk and again is quite difficult so you do have to be fairly healthy or use a tuk tuk. Once you are there, it is great. You are in the middle of the mountain so some creepy crawlies have to be contended with.

Verified reviewAmazing place tucked away from the overly busy areas of Ella. Incredible lush countryside all around you, food and breakfast were also great. We walked back and forth to the city most of the time but if you are staying a few nights I would recommend renting a scooter for extra freedom and saving some money on tuk tuk. Mosquito net definitely a bonus. Very nice and welcoming couple running the place. Very convenient spot as already on the way to Ella's rock trail!
thank you

Verified reviewWe loved our room with the great views and the nice and quiet surroundings. The guesthouse family was very friendly and picked us up with a tuktuk because the guesthouse is in a more remote part. Also, the dinner and breakfast were fantastic! Most of the food is grown in their own garden. At this place we had the best Sri Lankan food during our trip! We would love to come back here some day.
