It's a very old building but well maintained to the extent humanly possible. If you are looking for shiny new places, you might not like this. We liked the stay, however, the big rooms, the heritage furniture, the garden and most of all the helping and caring staff.

The ambience of this small heritage hotel and the very helpful management and staff were wonderful. The manager even helped us to get to a hospital for some medical assistance. He spent a good couple of hours with us to approach the right expert. Rooms were cleaned every day and sheets changed whenever required. The closeness of the town, the bus stand and the railway station made it very convenient to get around. Some nice eating places were also close by. Jaffna and the hospitality and friendliness of the people will be remembered. So will be the comfortable five-night stay in Old Park Villa.

Jaffna is struggling to recover from the Civil war, the economic crisis and Covid, The hotel is trying to catch up, but it is struggling. I would recommend staying here, but do not expect an updated hotel. The staff were kind and helpful. We were happy we travelled to Jaffna, and we hope tourism increases to help support the economy..

Some of the staff had very little English so communication at times was tricky.

The staff was so gracious and helpful. Anything we needed they went out of their way to get including a blow drier, kettle, cups and help with the wifi. They also helped arrange a Tuk Tuk to the airport at the end of our stay.

The bedroom and bathroom wasn't cleaned very well. The bedsheets had a lot of unremovable spots. No mosquito net For that price I expected a bit more

The stuff is very friendly and helpfull. The Original Jaffna Breakfast was great, south Indian style.

Grand old building that harks back to the colonial era, with the most friendly and welcoming hosts. Quiet, despite being close to the road, and set in an established garden. A really lovely ambience with chairs on the verandah and heirlooms in the cabinets. Does show its age in some places, but very comfortable large room and sparkingly clean.

The room had no natural light, but a big neon light only. The walls have big humidity stains. There is no hot water in the shower. Internet connection is very poor. Breakfast is served cold. The bathroom door looks like it could do with a washing. I was given a worn out towel and the staff doesn’t speak English. Also, it is expensive - they think nothing of charging 65 US a night for this

Bathroom could do with a little updating

This is a lovely family run hotel. The owner and all the staff were very friendly and helpful with organising transport etc. and the food was excellent. We had a lovely stay here.

We had a wonderful experience at Old Park Villa from start to finish. Communication with Vijay was excellent, starting weeks before we arrived, and it never stopped. We felt like he would do anything to make our stay the best it could possibly be — and in fact he even found me some passion fruit - in a city and province where it’s definitely not in season. We were happy to meet some of Vijay’s family, including his beautiful fiancé and daughter. The room itself was quiet and comfortable and it was good to have access to the kitchen to prepare breakfast and tea/coffee for ourselves. The villa is a big old house that is full of character and has a pretty garden full of butterflies. The lovely and gentle and thoughtful man who looks after the hotel and grounds, Ahílan, is another special person who made our stay here memorable and comfortable. We loved it there. Thank you all for a great experience. PS. The restaurant down Hospital street, Jaffna Authentic Cuisine JAC - has fabulous food for a reasonable price, and a nice ambience.

The bathroom was awful. Water flowed back into the bathroom instead of the waste outlet after a shower thus flooding the bathroom. Hotel must have known about this as this is a structural problem and not a blockage problem. We had to use a different bathroom whenever we wanted a shower which was very inconvenient. We were also asked to pay extra to remain in the rooms allocated to us on arrival or be moved to another room. Manager claimed that he had given us the wrong rooms. We paid US$20 extra which I think Bookings.com should reclaim from the hotel and reimburse us. Our booking confirmation stated that breakfast is available at $5 per person but when we arrived we were told that this is the old price and now the price was $11 per person - manager refused to honour the $5 price. Lots of mosquitos but when we complained we were told that this is a villa and mosquitos are to be expected. If we didn't want mosquitos we should have booked into a hotel like Jetwing. Manager was very unhelpful and his attitude leaves a lot to be desired. He said that if we cancel at that stage we would have to pay the full amount in line with the cancellation policy agreed by us. Not sure how this hotel got it's rating score of 8.7. I wouldn't give it a score of 5! And this too only because of a good assistant who was always helpful.

Gem of a property. excellent staff and close to all facilities. suitable for small groups and families. staff made sure all our needs were met and we’re very attentive. I had few elderly family members in this trip and they looked after us with great care. the breakfast was to really great and authentic we could order the day before what we needed.

In a nutshell its a beautiful traditional house and very large comfortable rooms. Very clean and staff is super friendly. I ate several places in Jaffna but the food they gave for breakfast is amazing, very tasty and 100% Jaffna style. I would recommend to anyone without any hesitation.
