This place was 100% romantic lying on a hillside. The view was great. It is not a luxury place but there is a fridge, water boiler, hairdryer etc. Breakfast is good and the owner is friendly. He also offers tuktuk service on request. I felt it is a bit a special place because it is so hidden. We were in another place in Ella before but that one was more expensive and not so special.

Thank you for hosting us. We enjoyed our stay. You were very accommodating and provided us with advice and connections with your Tuk Tuk and a taxi.

The only ‘con’ would be the location as you need transportation to get downtown, but as I said before Ruwan is always attentive and available at reasonable hours to drive you everywhere!

Good quality/price room, with good matress, mosquito net protection and antimosquito plug device, hot water, fridge! hair dryier and a iron. The terrace and the views were amazing, its the perfect place to relax and enjoy being in the nature. The breakfast was huge and delicious with sri lankan or western options. Ruwan and his wife were very kind and attentive and Ruwan is open to pick you up and drop you to/from downtown by his tuktuk and even available to guide you and make a tour throughout the most important Ella’s touristic spots.

Little out of town but transport options available and parking was a little difficult- the owner made sure our tuktuk was safe parking it at his house however we kept feeling like a nuisance having to have him pick up and drop it off at odd hours.

Our stay at Opal Cottage was divine. We loved the location as it was so tranquil and relaxing, however would recommend your own transport for ease but the host can also assist in drop off's and pick ups from the town if he is available. Our hosts were so kind and really went above and beyond for us, they even put together a surprise to help celebrate my partners birthday. The room was spacey and facilities were great (even had a fridge). Breakfast was indulgent and we highly recommend to anyone who wants to be within nature and away from the bustling town. Room may need a coat of paint but that is really nitpicking, and for us not a big deal at all but some may disagree.

Quite far away from the town/ public transport if you dont drive scooters. Tuk tuk tour prices are quite high

Very friendly couple, beautiful view, great breakfast, free tuk tuk service for arrival and departure to Ella town. Scooter rental possibility

A little far to city centre

Everything was perfect, breakfasts and dinners were huge and delicious - we asked for spicy and it was spicy. Big and clean room, nice view from balcony. Good contact with owner via WhatsApp, he also transports by tuktuk to the entrance for free.

Nothing or if I may give a suggestion, maybe a little fixed bedlight. Otherwise, I would just say... come here and really enjoy a true Sri Lankan stay.

Wow, I loved my stay here. On the shady terrace of your accommodation, you have a nice view on Ella Rock while entertained by birds, chipmunks and if you are lucky, monkeys. Your neighbours are Sri Lankans as you stay in a village next to Ella. The quickest and less energy-demanding access to Ella is by Tuktuk. The owner has its own Tuktuk and is a member of the Tuktuk association, using fixed (better rates) than the Tuktuks from Ella. The communication with the owner is very easy as he uses WhatsApp as well. One message and he comes to pick you up or asks a friend. The owners thought of everything... you have your own router for internet (allthough it's a bit slow as in many places in Sri Lanka) and I even found an iron and a kettle in the room. Also the breakfast is very good and you can talk to the owners about your preferences (time, sort of breakfast, etc.) and they can also prepare dinner for you after coming back from the city. Shortly said, for me the perfect place to take some rest and find some peace.

The room was really clean and had everything you need for a short stay in Ella. The room was a bit outside of the city centre but you had the best view from your balcony to watch the sunrise and sunset. We had a local breakfast which was a lot and tasty. The host and his wife were really friendly. We mostly communicated via WhatsApp which worked perfectly and the host their best to get us from one location to the other at any time and only charged a little for this service. It was a nice stay and if you like to live somewhat more local, it's a great stay.

    Everything was great!

Amazing cottage in the mountains, really calm and peaceful. The breakfast is incredible and you take it on your private balcony with the bird songs all around while enjoying the view on Ella's rock and Little Adam. And at night you will be delighted by the fireflies. The family is really sweet and will help you with anything. We rented a scooter from them and it was great to move around easily and explore around Ella. The wifi was also good and you have hot water for those worried about comfort

The room was a bit damp as the back wall is basically underground. It would benefit from some fresh paint. Whilst well-meaning, my personal space could have been respected a bit more - eg not knocking on door multiple times whilst I was showering or getting dressed. Burning of plastic

Clean, spacious room that was really well equipped, including a hairdryer and fridge. Bed was comfortable and mosquito net was good. The breakfast was excellent - really delicious. Laundry was really good. Clothes smelled fresh and folded with care. The host family are sweet and helpful. I appreciated the fair value tuktuk rides to get back from Ella to the accommodation, as it was far up a hill (but I liked being away from the busy town!). You can sit and enjoy watching some wildlife from the terrace. Bee Honey Restaurant is a 15 min walk away which is a nice place to eat, with a good view and trains sometimes going by.
