How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
Guidelines and standards for Reviews
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

Verified reviewMy stay here was great. The view was amazing. That alone was worth the price of the room. Then, the host, Nimalka, was wonderful. She cares about her guests and does everything she can to accommodate them. She will make breakfast at a time that suits you and will answer any questions or queries you may have. She is very caring. The property itself was spotless, e.g. very clean. It is situated just a few minutes away from the bus stand. The train station is about 10 minutes walk away. Great place to stay.
Nothing.
Thank you for everything ♥♥😊

Verified reviewThe location was incredible, the view where you sit to eat breakfast is gorgeous! The lady who ran the hotel was extremely accommodating and gave me a warm welcome when I arrived. I would definitely stay here again. It's very peaceful and you feel immersed in nature.

Verified reviewThe owner is very nice and helpful. It's 10 min walk from town and the views are beautiful from the homestay. The room was clean.
The room itself looks old and not welcoming. The bathroom stinks of humidity and I got one leech in the shower. In 2 of our 3 days the talks of the other guests in the terrace woke me up very early in the morning, you hear everything.

Verified reviewThe family at Pasan Guesthouse were friendly, attending to our needs (organising tuk tuk driver, places to go etc) and especially made us feel at home. Easy walk into town (I'm 66) yet a quiet peaceful place to stay with a private verandah and garden to stop and look at the mountain view.
Thank you for your best review

Verified reviewA very warm welcome and an amazing view from your own personal veranda. Really nice breakfast with some great food and always happy to offer help and advice.
Anyone stopping here should bring a torch as it's down a bendy dark road... But on the plus side you see fire flies zooming about as you head up the track to the accommodation!

Verified reviewWe loved the location of Pasan Guest, it was so beautiful, quiet and peaceful that we spent a lot of time sitting outside in the little courtyard, admiring the amazing views and the birdlife. The breakfasts were plentiful and delicious and we also enjoyed the home-cooked dinners. It was close enough to walk to Little Adam's Peak and the Nine Arch Bridge and just a short tuktuk ride back from town. The family who run Pasan Guest are lovely and looked after us very well.
We couldn't open the window in the bathroom so there wasn't much ventilation and it got quite damp.
Thank you for everything

Verified reviewWonderful small and very friendly Home Stay, in a very peaceful and quiet location with great views of Ella Rock and Gap from the terrace and very pretty garden. The room is simple but has everything, comfy bed, a kettle, good hot shower and spotlessly clean. We thoroughly enjoyed the delicious typical Sri Lankan breakfasts and evening meals we had. About 10 minutes walk down a small lane, then along the main road to the Ella centre. The owner even took us in his TukTuk to our next destination for a small fee.
Nothing.

Verified reviewHost helps with everything you need, relatively good Wi-Fi for Ella. Walking distance from city-center. Exciting view from terrace to the hills and valley.
Dinner was okay, but not the best you can get in Ella. I recommend trying city-center restaurants, they do great kitchen.

Verified reviewGreat room with excellent amenities. Our host was great and she made sure we have everything during our stay. The room was spacious, bed was great, plenty of hot water. The breakfast amazing, plenty of dishes every morning, and location is the best. Very close to the city center, but away from the hustle. Very close to the hiking paths. Overall, our stay was wonderful and we would stay here again.
Nothing.

Verified reviewFantastic view from the balcony to a waterfall and Ella Rock. Your breakfast is served at your own balcony. Delicious home-made dinner is available at fair price. The owner family is really nice and do their best to serve their guests.
The room has open “windows” above the door (you cannot close it), so the noise of the neighbours and mosquitoes come to the room easily. The neighbouring room and its balcony is right next to yours, it was not so intimate.
Thank you

Verified reviewThe view is amazing and the whole village is so worth a stay! The bed was so comfortable and the shower was hot. We felt very welcome and integrated :) The food was all very very good !!! And you have cheaper options for lunch/ dinner as that was a critique point from others. But the big Sri Lankan Dinner is definitely worth the price!
The shower pressure could be higher- but that should really not be a reason not to book a room 😁
Thank you ❤️

Verified reviewOne of the best places in Sri Lanka where we happened to stay. Clean (very!), very cozy and comfortable, quiet, but at the same time very close to the center of Ella, beautiful views and wonderful breakfasts. Very hospitable and pleasant hostess. It was a great pleasure to stay in this place, we highly recommend it!
Nothing to say :)

Verified reviewpasans guesthouse is a calm family runned place with an amazing view over ella rock and little adams peak. It has two big, bright rooms (very clean) with big private terraces and a small beautiful garden on the frontside, where you can relax in the sun or in the shadow. It's only a 5 minutes walk away from the inner city of ella with all its cafes and restaurants, but far away enough to be a pieceful and relaxed place without all that trafficnoises of the inner city. The family, who runs the place are super friendly, attentive and helpful people and have a lot of good tipps on what to do in ella and surrounding. They even invited us to their New Year Ceremony in their house, being part of the local traditions was a wonderful experience. They also have a tuk tuk and the husband drove us to an very impressing buddhist temple in the mountains and guided us to Ella Rock in the early morning to experience the sunrise. We highly recommand the guesthouse! Thank you for hosting us in your beautiful place!

Verified reviewLovely quiet spot, 10 minutes walk into centre. Very helpful owner, offered evening meal which we excepted, good home cooked food at very good price. Breakfast excellent, took leftovers for lunch. Also offered tuktuk at very reasonable price.
Shower was a bit awkward to get temperature right, could of been hotter, but due to the heat a warm shower wasn't an issue.
