How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
Guidelines and standards for Reviews
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.

Verified reviewWe had a very pleasant stay at Pidurangala Villas. The hosts were extremely friendly and accommodating. The dinner was exceptionally good, and our host was very attentive, even offering to drive us. He also arranged a safari for us, where we saw many elephants to our fullest satisfaction. The room was quiet, clean, and beautifully maintained. Additionally, the location is excellent, as both Pidurangala Rock and Lion’s Rock can be reached within a very short time.

Verified reviewAmila and his family gave us the warmest welcome on our arrival in Sri Lanka! Unfortunately for us it rained every day we were there but Amila sat us down and helped us make a plan. Amila and his knowledge and passion for Pidurangala and Sigiriya was coupled with his expert knowledge of Sri Lanka and its history set us up perfectly for the rest of our trip. His and his family’s kindness exceeded our expectations and the breakfast was excellent and filled us up for most of the day. We would have loved to have climbed Pidurangala Rock but unfortunately with the heavy rain it wasn’t to be. But Amila was up with us at the crack of dawn ready if we were! He even drove us to Kandy for an excellent rate and stopped at some sights along the way which broke up the journey. Thanks so much for an excellent trip and would recommend to anyone who is looking for a homestay near Sigiriya.

Verified reviewThe family is very kind and helpful. We had a wonderful time with them. The rooms are very clean and tidy. The location is perfect for visiting both Pidurangala Rock and Lion Rock in Sigiriya. We also had a fantastic elephant safari tour arranged by them. They picked us up from the airport and dropped us off at our next stay. They can also provide tours, but we had different plans, so we did not go with them. The transport prices are very fair, and the owner’s son provided excellent explanations of the places we visited—he is also a guide. Finally, we had a fantastic stay in Sri Lanka with them. The rice and curry made by his mother was the tastiest meal we had in the entire country. Breakfast was also superb. Highly recommended place!

Verified reviewThe family that owns this property is extraordinary, they behaved exemplary with us making us feel like family. They took us by TukTuk to Pidurangala Rock and also to Dambulla, and upon departure they helped us with a taxi to Pinawalla. Also during our stay in Sigirya they gave us an extraordinary surprise with a small cake to celebrate our first vacation outside the country after the wedding (honeymoon) that we ate with them. I recommend with the greatest love!

The WiFi worked badly (supposedly because of the floods), the breakfast was basic. The room is not soundproof so every passing car or dog's barking or other people's discussions in the middle of the night can be heard.

However, it is not possible for us to offer everything for free. We charged you only a small amount for the room and breakfast. While you initially mentioned that the breakfast was excellent, your comments now suggest otherwise. We offered you a late checkout and even stored your luggage until 3:00 PM. Regarding transportation, you chose not to take a tuk-tuk despite our recommendation. As you know, Sigiriya and Pidurangala Rocks are surrounded by jungle. For your safety, we advised you to use a tuk-tuk during early mornings and late at night, but you were unwilling to pay the minimal fee for this service. We understand that everyone has different expectations, but if you are looking for luxury services, those come at a higher cost and are usually available at hotels or resorts not at homestays like us. Your comments can negatively impact our business without valid reasons, as we strive to provide quality service at a very minimum price. Also, you should take recommendations and advice provided by the host or any other local person who knows the area better than you, rather than acting like you know everything. Finally, we are grateful for the opportunity to host you at our homestay. We hope that in the future, you will adjust your expectations according to the price you pay. Verified reviewHosts went above and beyond to provide a great stay. I arrived at 10pm after travelling the entire day and they still cooked me dinner given the time, great tasty breakfast and it changes daily. They took me to massage, drove me into town with no added cost and offered me a drive to the airport for a fair price. Overall, great stay in Sigiriya very close to both Pidurangala Rock and Lion's Rock.
Wi-Fi and data signal can be problematic during rainy days due to location, but I found it to be an overall problem in Sigiriya.
