How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
Guidelines and standards for Reviews
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

Verified reviewMaleesha picked us up at the station, took us to the Bluefield, waited all the time of the tour and brought us back at a very reasonable price. Truly a golden boy, very kind, sunny and helpful. The structure is very clean, well maintained and well maintained.
The only flaw at night is quite cold, but the blankets make up for it

Verified reviewWe spent 3 days in Nuwara Erelia. The accommodation was excellent – from the communication before our arrival to the personal support for every question we had. We even managed to book a last-minute tour directly with Chaami. The bathroom felt almost brand new, giving the impression of staying in a 5-star hotel! Thanks again for the wonderful stay.
Just a small tip: not every Tuk-Tuk driver knows the place, so it’s best to use the address or mention the neighboring accommodation.

Verified reviewWe stayed here and had a wonderful experience. The room was very comfortable and cozy, perfect to rest after exploring the area. Chaami is not only a welcoming host but also an excellent guide. He gave us a very complete tour, taking us through the tea plantations, beautiful waterfalls, and even letting us taste a delicious avocado juice. Everything was well organized and very enriching. We truly recommend this place for both the quality of the accommodation and the kindness and knowledge of Chaami.

Verified reviewNothing. Maybe the breakfast, but I had to pay it.
Very Cold. Very Humid (87%). No hot water. Full of mosquitos. Impossible to reach. 30 mins walking from city centre. No card accepted, only cash (not even told before payment).

Verified reviewBeautiful and cozy! The lady that runs it is so lovely and the food was amazing!
Not so much didn’t like, just the road is slightly difficult for a car to come up to but tuktuks go with ease.

Verified reviewThe worst accommodation I've stayed in and the only place in Sri Lanka where I felt scammed. There is no free heating offered despite Nuwareliya being a very cold place (akin to not having air con in Colombo) which left me uncomfortably cold for both nights of my stay. I come from a country that experiences Winter, so believe me when I say Nuwareliya gets COLD. I was offered a portable heater for an additional $2000 rupees a night. But should a guest be paying for a basic amenity like heating? The heater didn't work anyway so I was left with only the hot water to warm myself up. Except there were power cuts for 17+ hours of my stay, meaning I could not access any electricity or hot water for most of my stay. While most accomodation providers in Sri Lanka have back up generators for such circumstances (given power cuts are common in the country), the owners told me they opted not to get one due to costs associated with inflation. Then maybe they shouldn't be charging guests premium prices, or taking in guests at all? If they're that budget conscious? I had to get light from a candle, use a bucket with boiling water to shower and was shivering for most of my stay. I haven't even experienced such a terrible ordeal at a hostel. Despite this, I acknowledged the power cuts were out of the hosts control and offered them a chance to give me a discount as I wanted to be reasonable. The owners repaid me by giving me a measly $4000 rupees off, meaning I still paid AUD $150 for this nightmarish stay. The cherry on top was me being charged for transport from the station to the hotel (which was offered as if free of charge). Such misleading, dodgy and money-hungry hosts. Customer service is about how you treat guests when things go wrong. And from my experience, it is clear these hosts only see their guests as cash cows and have no sense of compassion. Save your money and sanity - avoid booking here.

Verified reviewAlthough deceiving on arrival from the outside, we were welcomed into the most beautifully modern and cosy stay! Chaami and his staff were so knowledgeable, taking us on a day tour around Nuwara Eliya, driving us the 10 mins into town at night for dinner and cooking us breakfast each morning. Couldn’t recommend this little hideaway more!!

Verified reviewMe and my daughter like everything and we highly recommended to everyone Seeming Lodge. This place has rooms with a wonderful view on tea plantations. Our room was big, very clean and comfortable. We have also tea and coffee place in the room. About breakfast, it was so nicely prepared and decorated, it was delicious. For the end, the owner brother is a guide, but first of all a man with a big heart, who was guiding us and telling us a lot of interesting things about everything. He was helping us with everything, without him our vacation wouldn’t have been so good!

Verified reviewNice modern clean room and comfy bedding. No air con, but it was not needed as it is a cooler climate. Chaami is also a lovely guy, super helpful and friendly. He drove and picked us up from down the road as the property wasn’t able to be accessed by our driver. When we went out we walked down to the city and then got a tuk tuk back up without issue.

Verified reviewThe hosts were amazing! Gave us a great day to explore Nuwara Eliya, including the waterfalls and the tea plantations - one of the highlights of our holiday! Food was delicious and the bedroom comfortable.
The dining room lacks a bit of privacy due to the open plan kitchen dining area (food is great though!)
