How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
Guidelines and standards for Reviews
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.

Verified reviewLoved the easy going friendly staff , loved the surroundings, the chef was amazing. Rohan was very helpful the staff were always smiling and very welcoming . The pool was a fabulous temperature and it was so peaceful. Also loved the friendly dogs .
The only thing is the beach was not near , but it was only a short Tuktuk ride and did not cause us any problems

Verified reviewThe rooms are very spacious and thoughtfully designed with great attention to detail. The staff is kind and helpful, although you do need to seek them out if you require assistance or if anything is missing. The property features a beautiful garden, and the pool is amazing – a perfect place to relax
The rooms are spacious but could benefit from additional lighting. Our bathroom had an open window without a cover, and part of the ceiling was open to the outside, which unfortunately allowed mosquitoes and cockroaches to enter. There were no mosquito nets in the room, so we ended up with quite a few bites by the time we left. The internet connection is also very weak, making it nearly impossible to access the internet from the room. While the location is beautiful, the listing stated that the beach was an 8-minute walk, but in reality, it takes 20+ minutes to get there. Dining at the property is quite expensive, with prices more in line with high-end hotels. While the food is good, it doesn’t quite match the standard expected at those price points. Overall, the place has potential but needs some improvements to match expectations

We gave it to you as you had booked for 2 rooms 4 adults and 1 kid but had 2 kids. You advised in advance and asked for a single bed for the extra kid which we supplied free of charge but it needed to be the room with superking and 2 singles in adjoining room. The bathroom on this suite is a good size but not as large as the other rooms so needs the air circulation for 4 people showering. Usually as long as bathroom to bedroom door and bedroom doors are closed dusk and dawn and the mosquito coils are burnt it is ok. We don't have nets because fans are more helpful really and we have a/c in both rooms. We will consider whether people require a net but have not been asked before. The beach is 900meters from the beach and will take different people longer or shorter to walk. Tuk tuks are always available. The food and drinks in Bentota at the high end hotels in my experience is really quite expensive so I have not experienced that but Bentota in general is more expensive other resorts but generally has a higher standard. There are plenty of cheap local restaurants, mid-range and high end in Bentota so its easy to find what you want. We supply a service to our guests that don't want to go out but want a quality meal. We employ a chef to this purpose just for our own guests. Fresh food is bought fresh every day and any seafood will be straight from the harbour. Many guest take half board option which is good value. We have a lot of families staying who have mentioned in reviews how much the kids loved the pool and gardens as you did and the friendly staff that will bring free tea and coffee for the parents to the pool and own balcony. Overall we meet guest expectations and so sorry in this case we didn't reach yours. r

Verified reviewIt was beautifully laid out and very serene. The room was spacious and maintained well throughout our stay. I loved how friendly and helpful everyone was and also that they offered free tea and coffee and the chance to fill up our water bottles as often as we wanted. The massage treatment was perfect and the groundskeeper really helped us understand the flora and fauna surrounding us.
No serious issues but I think some people may think it is located too far from the beach and other amenities. We were happy to walk 10 -15 mins to the beach but some may find that difficult. Similarly re distance to other restaurants. On the positive side someone was always available to call a tuk tuk when needed.

Verified reviewThe property and the garden are beautiful, the room amazingly big, clean and comfortable, the swimming pool lovely, the dogs adorable and the staff very nice. The location was very convenient, quietly nested in a peaceful lane, less than 20min walk from a wonderful beach. The owner is also a lovely man. It was such a great find! I would come back without any hesitation.
I wish they served real coffee and not Instant coffee, at least as an Add-on option! Breakfast was ok but quite expensive for the quality.

Verified reviewThis was my third stay at the property, so I think that says it all! I just love the peacefulness of the place and the natural surroundings. There's a lovely pool, a beautiful, well-maintained garden area and the rooms are huge and tastefully decorated and a bonus you don't often find - lots of hangers to hang up your clothes!! Really comfy bed too! Delicious breakfast with great touches like proper sausage, a slice of lime for the papaya and home-made jam! The Sri Lankan option is really tasty! The staff were great - you only have to ask and they will brew you a complimentary pot of tea - and it was really nice to be remembered by both the chef and the massage lady - I enjoyed two massages while I was there. Finally, when the driver who was booked to take me to my next location wasn't able to make it, Rohan stepped in and drove me himself - now that's hospitality at it's best!

Verified reviewAmazing place to stay- huge, very clean and welcoming rooms in gorgeous serene setting, a sanctuary. Lovely staff (loved the fresh coconut) who were very accommodating (esp with transport, tours and rickshaws) and all the food was delicious. Beautiful empty white sand beaches just a very quick and cheap rickshaw ride or 10-15 min walk away. Highly highly recommend.
Everything was fabulous, the only thing to be aware of is there are two harmless and friendly dogs at the property that will come to the tables to try to have your food. Could be a bit bothersome at times but the staff would try to move them away when they could.
