Real Bookers. Real stays. Real opinions.
Read more– opens a dialog boxEach review score is between 1 and 10. To get the overall score you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of them. We use a weighted review system, which means the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. Guests can also give separate “subscores” in crucial areas like location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value, and free Wifi. Note that guests submit their subscores and overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an accommodation that you booked through our platform if you stayed there, or if you got to the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialize in detecting fake reviews submitted to our platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team so that our fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we'd publish every review we get, positive and negative. However, we won’t display any reviews that include or refer to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out. We may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old, or if the accommodation has a change of ownership.
An accommodation can reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (e.g. language, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). You can sort and/or filter them by time of year, review score, and more.
Sometimes we show external review scores from other well-known travel websites, but make it clear when we do this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly, without limiting expression or strong opinions. They're also applicable regardless of the comment's tone.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, or the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and other similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties, and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options might be available (by type of traveler, by score, etc...).

Sri LankaThis was my second time staying at Sheru Guest, and once again, it truly felt like coming home. Nestled in the peaceful fishing village of Totamuna in Matara, Sheru Guest offers the perfect blend of comfort, culture, and community. I first stayed here some time ago and was so impressed by the experience that I knew I had to return — and I’m so glad I did. The guesthouse is run by a warm and welcoming Catholic family who treat you more like a friend than a guest. Their genuine hospitality and care make a lasting impression. The rooms are clean, comfortable, and ideal for a relaxing stay, and although they don’t provide meals, there are plenty of great local restaurants just a short walk or tuk-tuk ride away. One of the reasons I chose to return to Sheru Guest is because of the beautiful purpose behind it. A portion of what you pay goes toward helping underprivileged families in the village — supporting their education, medical needs, and daily essentials. It’s not just a stay; it’s an opportunity to be part of something meaningful. If you're looking for a place that offers more than just a bed — a place filled with kindness, purpose, and a true local touch — Sheru Guest is it. Returning here felt like visiting old friends. I already know this won’t be my last time.

CanadaThis loving family easily created the place I've stayed in my 1 year of traveling. If you're the type of traveler who appreciates major attention to detail, the warmest of welcomes (fresh glass of passion fruit juice from their garden !!), high-quality facilities, and mind-blowing dollar value, then you found your home away from home. Honestly, I wish I had a home back home as nice as this home.

AustraliaExtremely pleasant stay. Having travelled from Australia to Matara to complete some family genealogy local research; Sheru Guest Apartment was an ideal quiet private location for my writing tasks; with great Wi-Fi; while still immersed in normal neighbourhood experiences of a typical Sri Lankan town. My favourite relaxing past time here was sitting on the front porch, overlooking lush gardens, watching & photographing many visiting birds & playful squirrels. I purposely chose this guesthouse to be both a distance away from busy noisy main roads & tourist hotels, but close enough for when I needed to go into Matara Town or swim at Polhena Beach. Sheru Guest Apartment was spacious & clean. I can foresee it will consistently get better, as the owner/managers have natural attention to detail. They were very respectful & looked after me extremely well. Even sourced the freshest quality Buffalo Curd that is renowned in this area. My favourite. For all these reasons combined, & many more; I will definitely return here again next time.

Sri LankaI had an amazing stay at Sherus Guest in Matara, Sri Lanka! This guesthouse is a gem, perfectly blending comfort and convenience. One of the standout aspects is its prime location—just 1.7 km from the Matara Railway Station and near the Highway Bus Stand, making it incredibly accessible for travelers. Situated almost in the heart of Matara town, Sherus Guest provides easy access to all the main areas and attractions. The rooms at Sherus Guest are clean, spacious, and equipped with all the essentials needed for a comfortable stay. The staff is welcoming and attentive, ensuring that guests feel right at home from the moment they step in. A major highlight is the proximity to Polhena Beach, which is only a few minutes away. Polhena Beach is known for its calm waters, making it ideal for swimming and snorkeling. The vibrant marine life and beautiful coral reefs provide an unforgettable experience for snorkelers of all levels. Whether you're exploring the city, heading to the beach, or just looking to unwind in a peaceful setting, Sherus Guest is the perfect base for your visit to Matara. I can't recommend it enough—it's a stay you'll remember warmly!

Sri LankaAn Authentic Stay with a Heartfelt Purpose I recently stayed at Sheru Guest in Matara, and it was truly a memorable experience. This charming guesthouse offers more than just a cozy place to stay – it comes with a beautiful mission. Owned by a warm, welcoming Catholic family, Sheru Guest supports the local community by contributing a portion of its earnings to aid underprivileged families in the area. It was wonderful to know that my stay was part of something meaningful, helping fund education, healthcare, and essentials for those in need. The location is ideal for exploring southern Sri Lanka, with Polhena Beach just a short distance away, perfect for snorkeling and enjoying the calm waters. Mirissa is also close by, offering exciting whale-watching tours. The guesthouse itself is peaceful, clean, and thoughtfully maintained. While they don’t serve meals, great local dining options are just a short walk away, making it easy to explore Sri Lankan cuisine. Overall, Sheru Guest provided me with a genuine cultural experience and a sense of home. It’s perfect for travelers who want an affordable, impactful, and authentic stay in Sri Lanka. I would definitely recommend it to anyone visiting Matara.
