How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
Guidelines and standards for Reviews
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

Verified reviewThe garden
A lot. The room was disgusting. There was open electricity in the bathroom. Also there was animal poop beneath the shower. We had a frog in the room but we heard that was normal. The host was sweet, but a bit to much. No was not an answer and we felt really uncomfortable. When we arrived he wanted to bring us with a tuktuk. For us a good lesson to always discuss a price. We payed a lot for the tuktuk and for a simple vegetable Kottu at his place. Also the breakfast was not enough. Because of the nice reviews we wanted to stay at the place. But he wanted that people only review with a 10. If you won't review it with a 10, than he doesn't want you to place something. Well, that was a trap for us. So please be honest when you stay here. We left a day earlier than planned.

Verified reviewWe stayed there just for one night. There is an older and newer part of the accommodation set in a garden. We first booked the cheaper older one but changed as we were there and saw the newer part quickly. For a budget accommodation all was ok. But the bedsheets, towels and covers should be upgraded. They were clean but sometimes with stains. Dinner was ok and for breakfast we received what we asked for.

Verified reviewFabulous location with good birdlife especially in the early evening plus the bats. Also spotted a mongoose and monkeys. Very good WiFi. Enjoyed sitting out on the verandah. A few good restaurants within a 10 minute walk.
The bathroom tap was annoying as the whole faucet moves, probably an easy fix. Breakfast was rather disappointing compared to other homestays. Even a banana would be appreciated with the dry hoppers.

Verified reviewFour of us stayed. My parents, me and my wife. Room sizes were decent. Bed were comfortable. Had Mosquito nets. The host and his family were helpful and welcoming. Breakfast was okay. Portion was not the best in Sri Lanka. Location was close to the Sigiriya Lion rock but that did not matter since we had our own rented car. Wifi was the best, literally the best. I did not have any better wifi in Sri Lanka and not even in the cities. The router was in our room and the speed was close to 178-200 mbps. The room was in a jungle like setting and the morning was wonderful. The morning energy was very calming and meditative. You can wake up early morning, read something and enjoy the village setting.
We did not inquire about the price of dinner prior to ordering and before leaving we were charged 1300 per person. The dinner was fried rice which did not even have 100gm chicken and few pieces of carrots. It was a rip-off. So, do not order dinner without discussing the menu and price. Yes, the bathroom had four resident frogs which scared my wife. But I guess this is normal in such a place. And when we told that to the owner, he said that he did not wanna use poisons on these creatures. They came right after we took a shower. They would sit on the toilet. It was not the best experience. The toilet flush was not working in our room. The bathroom can have improvements. And the room light was dim.

Verified reviewWe were very surprissed about how confortable and nice was the place. The room was big and had a very nice porch with shade and with your own table were you can relax while listening to the birds and watching all the nature that surrounds the place. It is a small paradise in the middle of the Sigiriya countryside. Moreover it is very close to the main sights , but if you dont feel like walking 1 kilometer to the Sigiriya rock, the owners have a tuk tuk and they offer you good prices to take you here and there any time you need it. The breakfast was homemade and very tasty. We also had lunch there and It was delicious. The family that runs the place is very helpfull and charming. A great place to stay, no doubt!

Bathroom cleanliness needs to be improved. Maintenance also required in the bathroom - shower head was not working. Breakfast could be better.

Verified reviewThe property by itself is quite charming as it inside the jungle.
the cleaning. The bathroom was not clean, the sheets were not changed, we have found hair on the pillows and the toilet paper had animal poop on it. Also the breakfast was very poor, just some bananas and a piece of cake but due to the many flies we were afraid to try it.
