How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
Guidelines and standards for Reviews
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

Verified reviewAmazing place for stay. So green!!! Big jump from city jungle to natural jungle. Nice breakfasts on the tarasse. Quite easy to catch tuk-tuk to get to main road.
A little bit difficult to communicate with the host, as she does not speak english well.

Verified reviewIt Was quiet and very scenic!!
I don't know about others but we had a very uncomfortable stay there. There was no water, WiFi for a very long time and we couldn’t do our basic staff because of that. At the same time we couldn’t contact with the owner. They don't understand english properly, it was very tough for us to tell them to provide water and WiFi. The number put in the website, didn’t work either. Overall, it was not a very pleasure experience for us!

Verified reviewNice place away from the normal roads. I would recommend having your own tuktuk to get here like we had. Nice bonus is the AC in the double bed room, but not in the family room, for 2dollars a night. The host made us nice breakfasts also available after climbing the Pidurangala Rock and if you want she can also make you a huge dinner with a variety of curry's.

Verified reviewWe planned on staying for 2 nights but extended to 4 nights as we loved it here. The Homestay family are so lovely and helped us with anything we needed. Breakfasts were local dishes that tasted amazing. We would definitely recommend!

Verified reviewVery friendly owner, delicious food (breakfast, also there is an opportunity to order dinner). Homestay surrounded by nature.
A bit far away from the road. You need to take a tuktuk or taxi if you are going early morning or late in the evening because there could be wild elephants. Only one lady speaks English.

Verified reviewI loved how remote it felt. In the middle of the jungle, it was just what I wanted but also so easy to get to the center specially if you rent a bike. The host was so nice and genuine.
Bedding could have been a bit cleaner since the humidity tend to create mould.

Verified reviewThe room here was basic but so clean, the shower and bathroom were clean and working, aircon and fan good, Places to hang clothes and a lovely little patio! At night we saw firefly’s and sometimes elephants come! It is set in a beautiful garden and lovely jungle sounds at night 🥰. Also as everybody said the family are really beautiful and kind, Our food and breakfast was so so delicious, all fresh with veg and fruit in the garden. They welcome you in like a family member and we will really miss being around them, especially Lila who couldn’t do enough of us.
The property is a little out of the way, we had no problem getting tuktuks whilst we where there and you could also hire a bike. The drivers are wary of the elephants but picked us up early morning (5am) and the latest we where dropped was 9pm.

Verified reviewIf you like off beat places and spending a night close to nature this is the best option. With forest all around and plantations done by the host family in the area there is a lot of greenery. Host is a lovely person and will take care of your needs. She arranged Srilankan delicacies for breakfast, bread toast and lots of fruits. Bus stop is at a walkable distance and tuktuk's are available from there. We spotted monitor lizard nearby and the whole place was calm and serene especially when it was raining.

Little bit out from the centre.

Verified reviewThe host family were all very welcoming & friendly. The bed was comfy and the fan + AC helped keep the room cool. Breakfast & Dinner were always very delicious, although the breakfasts were sometimes very simple (just toast with butter and coconut syrup one morning).
We had some issue with the shower not functioning properly but the host said they would get it fixed so maybe not something anyone else will need to worry about? Also, besides the warnings about the wild elephants presenting a potential safety concern (we never did see any elephants), the amount of stray dogs, and the aggressiveness of quite a few of the dogs we encountered, inhibited our feelings of being able to freely & safely walk around.

Verified reviewThe location is very quiet. You can spot various small animals. The only breakfast we had was a real Srilankan food and it was very interesting to taste it. :) The owners even open a jack fruit for us.
The location is ok during the day. But during the night (for example for night safari) it is harder to get a tuktuk. You can’t go by yourself because on the last 300 m to the hause might be elephants Some tuk tuk drivers won’t come because they are scared of elephants as well. The owners does not speak english at all. We had to ask about the time of the breakfast by ourselves.

Verified reviewBeautiful authentic home stay in Sigiriya, Lila and her family were incredibly kind and helpful. Lila cooked us a beautiful dinner & breakfast.
It is quite far from the centre and you can’t walk back past 7pm, so you do need a scooter or Tuktuk!
