Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

New ZealandI stayed in a private room that was comfortable, clean, and spacious. The thick duvet was perfect for the cold nights, and the water pressure in the hot shower was excellent. The location is great — just a 10-minute walk from the center. Gayan and his mum are incredibly kind and welcoming. Thank you for the wonderful hospitality.

New ZealandOur stay at this guesthouse was as expected. The bunk room was quiet, clean and comfortable. The staff were helpful and gave us some good suggestions for the area. It was great to have kitchen facilities so we could cook our own meals for a change.

United KingdomNot a downside for us, but this hostel is on the calmer and quieter side so not a party atmosphere - although they do have a common area if travellers did want to mingle!
The guesthouse was great and staff were lovely! Beds were some of the comfiest we have experienced on our travels :) We stayed in a private room and it had everything that was needed. The location is great if you don’t want to be directly in the centre (approx. 20 mins uphill walk from centre), but it was what we wanted to get a little calm and quiet and there was a great restaurant right next to the hostel.

HungaryThe only minor thing I didn’t like was the occasional cigarette smell coming in the room.
The location was great, out of the busy central area, but easily walkable even during the night. The bunk bed was really comfortable and the thick duvet was great during the cold nights. The bathroom was clean and had hot water. There are lockers in the room. Complementary tea and coffee are always available. You can do your laundry (the staff helps in the use of the washing machine and they provide the detergent too). No dryer, but everything dried for the next evening despite the cold. WiFi is great in the lobby but not particularly strong in the room.

SpainThe place is good and clean. Basic accommodation but it has everything you need. The owner is a really nice and helpful guy which is taking care of the place. It also has a kitchen in case you need it, and a small garden where you can chill. It is very quiet in the area so you can have a good rest.It takes 10 min to walk to the city center. And like 20 min to the bus Station. Very fair price.

ChinaThe towels are too old. The water from flushing the toilet tends to splash out when flushing. You have to be careful. There is no enough hot water after a short while when showering at night, so it's more suitable to shower in the afternoon. It is not a big problem. They are not good at cooking. Maybe chef is not there.
There are plenty of sockets in the room and it is convenient for charging . It has a washing machine and a place to dry clothes. Very good. The location is quite good, just a short walk to the main street. And surrounding is quiet. There is a hairdryer available. Receptionist boy is nice and kind.

United KingdomThe room didn’t have a proper window and the WiFi connection wasn’t great in some areas.
Nice stay just outside the centre of Nuwara Eliya. Rooms were clean and just like the pictures. The owner is very responsive over message and can help you sort a tuktuk for standard prices. You got proper duvets with the beds since it is cold.

Costa RicaI didn't see anyone smoking, but it smelled like someone was smoking right outside the room. No mosquito nets, which I found to be a must in Sri Lanka, otherwise one or two are gonna wake you up at night.
I had a fairly comfortable stay. Private bunks, pretty empty dorm except for another person, nice hot shower, and nice location - a little outside of the city which made it more peaceful but still walking distance. Most importantly, hosts were very kind!

SpainThe room is very basic, the walls that face the garden are made of a thin metal material, they are not real brick walls, luckily it wasn't noisy at all. In the bedroom there is barely any room to put your clothes and stuff, only a desk and a chair, no closet, no bedside tables and no window. There is a clothes rack with a few hangers but it is not enough. Also there was just ONE socket for the whole room. The tuck tuck driver that they recommended to take us to the tea factory cost us 6K rupees for about half a day (about 4/5hours) but he wasn't the nicest, I think you can get a cheaper price if you find it yourself, or at least a friendlier driver for that price.
Gayan, the host, was super friendly and helpful from the moment we arrived. The guesthouse has a very "Youth Hostel" vibe, we met 2 other travellers straight away with whom we shared stories and tips from the trip. Gayan advised us on how to get public transportation and where to go in Nuwara Eliya. Plus the hostel is quite close to the city center, within walking distance. We really liked it that we could make coffee and tea at all times. There was really nice warm water in the shower, which we appreciated because the weather was chilly and the room was a bit cold. The duvet was awesome to keep us warm since it was cold at night and there is no heating, obviously. The room is clean and the bedding quite new.
