My Stay at Sudunelum Holiday Resort, Anuradhapura

The road to get there is pretty rough. It's bumpy and not well-maintained, so the ride in can be uncomfortable. If you're bringing a lot of luggage or it's raining, it might be a bit of a hassle getting there. But the biggest problem was mosquitoes. There were so many in our room! They really bothered us, especially at night. Definitely bring a mosquito killer or some good repellent. Trust me on this one - you'll need it.

The best part was definitely the caretaker. This guy was amazing - super helpful, friendly, and always ready to help with anything we needed. He really made us feel welcome and took great care of us during our stay. The location is perfect if you want peace and quiet. It's in such a calm area away from all the noise and traffic. Perfect for relaxing after walking around the ancient sites all day. The whole place just feels so peaceful. The rooms are really big too. We had plenty of space to move around and put all our stuff. After being cramped in small hotel rooms elsewhere, this was such a nice change.

AC is old therefore making a noise throughout the night. It needs replacement. Closet is clean but needs hangers, One bed is exceptionally good while the second bed's metress needs replacement. The toilet needs the toilet paper roll and soap. The overall facility is in very good shape but needs some improvement and maintenance.

Room Space, very clean, sink. And a separate bathing area with hot water supply. The place is secure as the parking area is covered by fence and locking in the night. A quiet place in the vicinity of Thisawewa.

The translucent curtains let in quite a bit of light, which can be bothersome if you're sensitive to brightness while sleeping. Additionally, there was no option to adjust the air conditioner settings or control the speed of the ceiling fan, as both seemed to be preset. As a result, it took a while for the room to cool down—particularly noticeable on hotter days.

Located just off the peaceful banks of Tissa Wewa, this family-friendly property offers the perfect blend of nature and comfort. You can enjoy a relaxing walk along the lakeside path, with beautiful views of up to five stupas shimmering across the water—an experience both kids and adults will find memorable. There's also a nearby bathing spot, great for a fun splash on warm days. The property is clean, well maintained, and met our expectations. The spacious rooms gave us plenty of space to relax as a family, and having the toilet and bathroom separate was especially convenient with little ones. The staff were warm and welcoming, always quick to help with anything we needed, making our stay smooth and stress-free.

Lovely location next to the lake, although you can’t quite see it from the balcony. Lots of birds in the trees. Nice big room.

There were not enough blankets. The food was basic.

The hotel was small and in a garden and close to a lake with a long distance view of the pagodas. It was a bit difficult to access which kept it quite private. It was a lovely walk along the lake to some of the ancient sites.. the staff was friendly and helpful.

Location might not suit everyone. You need transport to get to the sacred city. Also no nearby restaurants but that was not a problem as the owner cooked lovely food at a very fair price.

Location by the lake was lovely. You can't see it from the hotel but it's only a few steps away. Also we hired the bikes and cycled into the sacred city easily by the lake side.

The road leading up to the hotel, in particular a point where a 5 m stretch had a very uneven surface was a nuisance. Must say this was not the resort management's fault but the local authorities.

The location with the awesome Tissawewa which has magnificent dagoba's in the background horizon was a majestic sight. Being close to all the major historical attractions was so convenient. At the resort itself it was the service provided which was so good.

A bit far from the city centre, but close to beautiful views of the lake. Sometimes difficult to communicate due to language barrier, but staff tried to accommodate to our needs

Clean, big room, good food, very nice staff. They arranged a good tuk-tuk tour of the temples.

Very friendly manager. Beautiful gardens. Lovely birdsong in the morning. Very comfortable beds on a spacious room. Manager kindly brought us a kettle and cups so we could make tea. Easy to walk up to the lake and view stupas.
