How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
Guidelines and standards for Reviews
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.

Probably the stairs as the room that i got was in second floor. I noticed that there are few mosquitoes inside the room, though they provided the bed with a mosquito net. (I just didn’t bother to use it)

Verified reviewA friendly hostess, standard Sri Lankan breakfasts. Of course, we missed greens, tomatoes, mushrooms, and ham. The coffee was cheap instant Nescafe. Why not provide ground coffee, for example? It would cost only a little more. The beach is about a 10-minute walk away. There are plenty of delicious restaurants nearby. The room is fairly quiet, with two large beds.
However, there are no curtains, and the air conditioner is noisy, making it impossible to sleep with it on, so we kept it off at night. The windows don’t open, and the room is very dark, even during the day. The beds are creaky, there’s no shower gel or shampoo, and the inconvenient shower lacks a curtain, placed right next to the toilet. After showering, everything around is soaked. The refrigerator is in a shared room. If, like us, you value privacy, there isn’t any here—you’ll be having breakfast with neighbors, sitting closely together at shared tables on the common terrace. There’s only one towel provided, for both hands and body. And finally, we had a nighttime hunt for a giant cockroach, about 4 cm

Verified reviewI thought the breakfast overall was great - I was given a fried egg, two pieces of toast with butter and jam, fruit (awesome) one day I got three (cold, tough) waffles One day I was given egg hoppers. That was delicious! Lady who runs the place was lovely and so were the staff The lady (?manager/owner) made sure I had a ground floor unit (as the accommodation is not suitable for wheelchair access) or for me in this instance where I’d sustained a foot injury The accommodation was in a good area about a 15 -20 minute walk to town.
I put my laundry in and all my BRAND NEW white clothes are now a pale lilac. I’d given instructions for cold, gentle wash (translated) and saw the lady put my washing in - don’t know what happened there but all the other clothes had been washed multiple times before. The accomodation does not provide meals like the ones in the pictures. To my knowledge the don’t provide lunches or dinners at all. Aside from the breakfast being good overall my toast was always cold and either stale and very chewy or was so hard it crumbled when you cut or bit it. I was given cold stale waffles one day which had syrup not enough for half of one. They were also tough - couldn’t eat them. There is no card access as stated - just a room key. At midnight, EVERY NIGHT, the gate to the driveway would open, scraping loudly over the concrete and gravel. Four motorbikes and a car would Cole through onto the property and the drivers would be speaking (at that hour of night seemed more like shouting) to each other. It was extremely difficult to get to sleep again after that. It would be good for the facilities listed were accurate. I saw nothing of them when I was there other than the laundry. THE BIG DOG!! Alright to properly wash in a convenient location it had no street lighting so could be dangerous walking in the dark

The rooms are spacious, beds are a generous size and very comfortable. The guesthouse is located in a quieter part of Mirissa but in walking distance to everything you need! Also lots of great places to eat nearby

Verified reviewThe location was great, just a little walk to the main street of restaurants and very close to the beach The room was a good size, clean and comfy. The mosquito net was the best we have had so far and you didn't wake up with it stuck to your face The owner was friendly and helpful, with a very happy and friendly dog
The toilet was very dark and difficult to shave in, but it was still not an issue for the price
