Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

AustraliaLots of mosquitos at night time but I have not been bitten as there is mosquito net on bed. Bring insect repellent.
Booked 2 nights in female dorm and ended up staying extra day. Location is 2km to Galle fort and 3km to Unawatuna. Right on main road (Matara Road), bus stop opposite in front. 3 supermarkets nearby, Dewata beach and Sahana beach within walking distance. Spacious dorms and clean toilets and showers. Big kitchen with gas stove for cooking, microwave, fridge, free water refill (hot and cold). There is washing machine (500 rupees for one wash). Excellent value for money.

United KingdomToilets and showers are down a steel staircase from the bedrooms. Should consider a little disinfestation of their grounds and use of anti-mosquito plugs: the amount of insects is way above the average of the area around the place.
Extra wide and comfortable bed and pillow, with nice bed sheets. Very clean. Good showers. Lovely garden. Great common areas. Well equipped kitchen. Individual bed fans did the job in absence of A/C

Sri LankaI stayed in a dormitory room near Magalle Beach and my experience was absolutely perfect. The location is excellent—just a short walk to the beach. The room had everything I needed for a comfortable stay: a personal fan, personal plug points, and individual reading lights for each bed, which made it very convenient. Everything was clean, well-maintained, and thoughtfully arranged. The atmosphere was friendly and relaxed, making it a great place to meet other travelers. I highly recommend this guesthouse and would definitely stay here again!

Sri LankaThe mosquitos were hard to deal with. The mosquito nets had holes in them, and they were not washed for quite some time. The hammock was dirty :( I wanted to lie on the hammock and read, but it looked very dirty with dead leaves and aged rain water.
It was very easy to reach and on the main road, but we were not affected by the bustling city. Loved the shared kitchen, it was fully equipped and we had the luxury of using electric appliances which are not very common in hostels like a blender, rice cooker and fridges. Laundry is available with an additional charge. The hostel has shared restrooms that were cleaned every morning. The common area had a variety of games and a tv. The staff was helpful and checked up on us frequently, especially the manager, Hansi was very kind and helpful. I based myself here as all the southern coast beaches until matara was a quick bus ride away (30 mins to mirissa being the longest bus journey). It was affordable and had great value for the price.

FranceI stayed there for 2 nights in April 2025 and had a lovely time there. The beds are comfortable in a big dorm with individual ventilators, mosquito nets, and cupboards. In addition, there are many common facilities including a very big and fully equipped kitchen. At walking distance, there are restaurants, a beach, and a supermarket to get some groceries. Galle's station is 10 minutes away with PickMe/Uber. Highly recommend it.

The room was really big so it was not so hot like when you rent smaller rooms. There’s also an A/C and a fan. I was working remotely and it was super comfortable, as you get a table and lots of stave around. Though it’s near the main road, it is quite. Clean, friendly stuff and nice kitchen that you can use. Near the hostel you get a big supermarket and also cafes near the beach.

NorwayNo small lights for each bed. Alot of mosquitos at the location (bed had net tho so it was okey)
One of the best hostels I have stayed at in this country. The beds were huuuge - double beds. You got towel, linen. It was a big hall where you could eat, play games and hang out with people. Location was perfect, walking distance to everything. Every bed had its own fan so it was nice. Everyone had a locker each, and it was drying racks in the room.

PortugalAmazing value for money! It’s a very comfortable hostel, with a huge hang out area with a kitchen, and only a few minutes away by Tuktuk or bus from Galle Fort. The bed has little privacy and can get a bit hot at night, but the net and the fan on the bed kind of solves these issues. The showers are one of the best I had in Sri Lanka, and the staff is very friendly and helpful. Even though I only stayed one night, they allowed me to keep my stuff here and use the bathroom, which was very convenient. Really recommend!

FranceThe only little inconvenience, the bathrooms being downstairs...but compensated by their cleanliness!
The location (bus stop just in front, easy to get anywhere for a few rupees). The spacious 8 ladies dorm with high wooden ceiling and floor, big lockers, comfortable bed with individual light, socket, fan and mosquito netting! The huge lounge and dining area, the shared kitchen. Also the staff of 3, speaking little English but always on hand to help, to clean...
