Read more– opens a dialog boxEach review score is between 1 and 10. To get the overall score you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of them. We use a weighted review system, which means the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. Guests can also give separate “subscores” in crucial areas like location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value, and free Wifi. Note that guests submit their subscores and overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an accommodation that you booked through our platform if you stayed there, or if you got to the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialize in detecting fake reviews submitted to our platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team so that our fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we'd publish every review we get, positive and negative. However, we won’t display any reviews that include or refer to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out. We may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old, or if the accommodation has a change of ownership.
An accommodation can reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (e.g. language, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). You can sort and/or filter them by time of year, review score, and more.
Sometimes we show external review scores from other well-known travel websites, but make it clear when we do this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly, without limiting expression or strong opinions. They're also applicable regardless of the comment's tone.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, or the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.

By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options might be available (by type of traveler, by score, etc...).

Lovely small resort and the hosts Johanna and Roberto could not be more welcoming and helpful. We felt like part of the family and will definitely be back! Food was delicious and the kite spot is awesome! 😊

AustriaDefinitiv not the cheapest place for Kitesurfing in Kalpitiya. This was also the main criticism of others, we met there … that’s why we couldn’t rate with a 10 what we would have loved too… Some minor remarks: - For the price you pay for the room a additional pool towel would be great - The letter with the „house rules“ in the rooms could be written a little bit more welcoming - room service shouldn’t be done only on request, or at least If you want to get on the Board directly from the accommodation it’s not ideal,
Great place for Kitesurfing, with a unique friendly team. International spirit, (Simone from Italy served a great coffee). But also great locals kiters - they helped us perfectly with the rented equipment, this was also very good. We met also very nice people there, easy to get in contact with other travelers, organized dinners together - if you want … Thx to everyone for great vacation at your lovely place.

PolandThe Rascals is the perfect place to relax and improve your kitesurfing skills. Joanna and Robi are fantastic hosts and we always felt welcome and well looked after. They took us to many incredible kitespots across different islands. You absolutely must go kiting at Vella Island and do a downwinder to Mini Vella. All their trips are accompanied by rescue boats so you always feel safe. They pay attention to every detail, even deflating the kites slightly when we take a break so the pressure does not damage them. Every day they shared useful tips to help us progress faster, and the Italian dinners at the end of the day were the perfect way to unwind. If you are looking for a kitesurfing holiday that combines breathtaking locations, well-organized and safe trips, delicious food, and a truly friendly atmosphere, this is the place.

TurkeyThese things are super minor, just giving constructive feedback: Water pressure was very low in the shower, which seems like a fixable issue as the tap was very strong. Dinner is late for some people at 8:30pm and while you can order snacks the cut off to order is 6:30pm. It would be great if they had some simple snacks available at the bar - crisps, peanuts etc.
We had a fantastic week-long stay at Rascals. It was hard to leave at the end as it felt like home! The room was clean light and comfortable. The whole resort is very tastefully designed :) It was a great place to learn kiting. The wind was good, it was sandy and shallow, the instructors used radios and the equipment was great. You take a boat out to the spot and it was a comfortable ride. One of us wasn't kiting and it was still nice to join on the beach to watch the kiters and pet the stray island dogs! The food was amazing!! Italian ingredients are shipped from Italy and each night there was a feast. Highly recommend going full board to include all lunches and dinners. Pizza night is on Saturday, don't miss it! Breakfasts were also lovely with many options. Planning to come back again in the future!

AustraliaNote that the property is a fair distance from the town, so make sure you have ample sunscreen etc and are prepared to have most of your meals in house. We spent most of our time kiting at a very special place called dream spot where there was no shade on the direct beach- just be wary and protected against the sun- you can walk to the “lay low” rest spot but it’s a short walk away.
This is a purpose built kite surfing destination property featuring amazing facilities and incredible, welcoming and encouraging staff. I can’t imagine a better place to learn to kite surf. The food is very very good but notably features Italian food (and authentic coffee!) given the owner’s origins- to note if expecting purely Sri Lankan local food (although they do include this on their menu). There are a spectrum of rooms including ones with and without aircon catering to a variety of budgets and desires. From the moment you walk through the gate you feel like you’re in paradise and part of a very special family/community. We are so grateful to have been able to spend time in this magical place learning from such wonderful, supportive and vibrant people.

I stayed at this kite resort for two weeks and honestly, I didn’t want to leave. From the moment I arrived, I was welcomed like family, and by the end of the trip, I truly felt like I’d been adopted into theirs. There’s a warm, down to earth atmosphere here that’s hard to find elsewhere, and it makes the experience so much more than just a kitesurfing holiday. The hotel has a cozy, family run vibe with amazing food and drinks. The kitchen is run by the Italian Roberto, who prepares a delicious mix of local and Italian dishes that make every meal something to look forward to. If you’re planning a stay, make sure you’re there on a Saturday. Pizza night is legendary. It’s not just a meal, it’s an event. The whole crew gathers, the wood fired oven gets going, and the laughs and pizzas don’t stop. On the beach, the team’s expertise is next level. They’re attentive, experienced, and genuinely passionate about helping you improve. Whether you’re just starting out or pushing into advanced tricks, they meet you where you are. Over my two week stay, they helped me elevate my kite skills more than I thought possible. Whether you’re coming solo, as a couple, or with friends, this place offers the perfect balance of progression, connection, and local charm. I’ll definitely be back.

VietnamWe had such an incredible getaway here, and it was really hard to leave! This was our second time staying at Rascals, and it was even more memorable this time as we stayed for longer. The place has an awesome vibe. It's super chilled, in a stunning location and everyone is so lovely. It's a soul-nourishing space to relax in between kiting, and we had a great time hanging out with the other guests and the team, who make you feel like family. We can't wait to come back! Thank you for having us, Johanna and the crew! ❤️

GermanyThe showers are coldish „daywarm“ and there were some days where I would have liked a hot shower after kiting. But that’s just me, I am always cold, even in Sri Lanka 😅
I had an amazing time at the Rascals! The hotel is super nice with a pool in a lush garden right at the lagoon. Everyone of the team is kind and caring. Spent two weeks here for kitesurfing, couldn’t have been any better. The Rascals is connected to the Duotone Pro Centre where they have the latest kite gear and best service you could ever asked for. We went on kite trips every day to the most beautiful spots far away from the crowds and had the best time! The food is also great. Dinner is mostly Italian style and always delicious but doesn’t start until 8:30 pm, which is actually very nice cause before dinner everyone can hang out at the bar for an aperitivo and socialize.

Is it an overstatement to say that this was our very best (kite) holiday ever? I don't think so. The Rascals kite resort is a fantastic place to kitesurf, with an amazing crew who are always there to help you. We were able to kite at several beautiful spots near the lagoon! And besides that, the resort was a nice place to chill, eat (really) good food, take a dip in the pool, have a drink and take yoga classes. I would definitely recommend this place to anyone! In any case, we can't wait to come back to The Rascals.

SingaporeMosquitos, you can't avoid them in this climate/location and the mosquito nets in the room do their job but might be helpful to put mosquito coils in every room.

United Arab EmiratesFantastic setup ideal for a kite holiday. The resort offers the perfect setup with nice rooms, friendly staff, community area and pool. The team, and Joanna and Roberto are making all effort to make everyone feel comfortable at all times. The food was exceptional, especially the dinners, we felt as on an Italian culinary trip, and yes most certainly best pizza in Sri Lanka. We met a lot of really nice people during our stay and made new friends. For kite surfers of all levels Roberto and Max are exceptional teachers. We hope to visit again.
