How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
Guidelines and standards for Reviews
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

Verified reviewThe property was very clean however it was difficult to locate via the directions on Booking.com The sound of the early morning prayers woke us up on the two nights we stayed. Steep incline to the homestay, can be difficult with heavy luggage. We received a lovely warm welcome from the host and she told us best ways to get to our destinations. She always kept in touch to make sure we were safe.
Thank you very much for your great review J. we always try to provide best out of best to our guests. once again thank you so much for recommending the cleanliness of our property. Our property is not too far from the city Its only Rs 200 from the city If you find difficult to walk with the backpack. We hear the prayers from the hindu temple just 15-20 mnts around 6a.m not the entire night We requested the temple committee to reduce the sound bit . If you are a fast sleeper no worries but anyway if that disturbed you we apologize you. please follow the google map Thank you for your stay Hope to see you again in Sri Lankab

Verified reviewFriendly guest and comfortable bed
Had booked somewhere that looked out of town but the location was different than on booking.com and is above a busy noisy road. Perfect if you want to be near the station but not great if you prefer the peace.
Thank you so much for your review. Our villa is located on the top of the city where you can see the entire city, huge ,hindu temple, church,Buddhist temple, huge mountain & tea plantation sitting at the huge terrace . Due to a religious festival you would have heard some noise outside.not inside. It is the same place in booking .com Dear friends pl read my other reviews as well There are two roads lead to my place. Steep road is difficult for elderly people You could have taken the other road. Anyway thanks for your review Robert .

Verified reviewExcellent accommodation. Priyanthi is a wonderful host, and was extremely friendly and helpful. The room was clean, very comfortable, and had a good hot shower. Breakfast was really nice, and very generous portions too. The location is ideal - about 10-15mins walk from the train station, as long as you're willing to walk up the hill! She also gave suggestions for what to do the next day before I headed to Adam's Peak, and arranged a tuktuk tour to take me there via Gartmore Falls, which I enjoyed. The cost was 14,000Rs, and I did enjoy the trip, but if you're on a budget then it's perhaps better just to skip the falls and take the local bus to Adam's Peak. All in all, highly recommended, and it was a pleasure to stay with Priyanthi.
Hi Callum Thank you so much for your great review .Hope to see you in Sri Lanka again

Verified reviewPriyanthi and her husband are very kind and helpful. She prepared us breakfast and dinner and it was delicious. We enjoyed the view a lot. The room was convenient and fursnished with blankets. It is located near the train station, you can go by walking. We went to the adam's peak by tuk tuk as adviced by the host and it was a very good choice. It was very nice to meet you Priyanthi, we wish you the best as well as your family.

Verified reviewWe stayed 1 night so we can climb Adam’s peak…. It was a big mistake to stay here due to the long drive to the starting point. Host are nice couple, helpful and on site. The place advertised as a VILLA… but it is far from being the vila we know… This place allocate on the top of the hill, far from everything and need a transport to get to town and back. The VILA is actually one level in the middle of a 5 story building, 2 bedrooms and a sitting area . Other guest rooms allocated upstairs and downstairs… so as you can understand, it is not a VILA … Villa means a free standing house all to your self with a garden…. Keep in mind that you staying in the middle part of a building!
What I didn’t like…. Soon after we arrived, The owner priya offered us a drink, tea/coffee… we accepted. At Every other motel/ guest house we were offered a WELCOME drink FREE OF CHARGE, but here it was a different case… we were billed for it! PRIYA offered us Dinner, I’ve asked several times how much is dinner per person? For some reason she kept avoiding telling us the price. Keep in mind that Local curry & rice set, per person is usually 500-1000RP …. Dinner arrived, Bowl of rice & variety of 5 tiny veggies curries & small bowl of devil chicken with No Meat on the bones at all. The BILL arrived and we were slammed with 6,800 LKR (welcome tea was included in the bill & bottle of water)… ! If I was to order this at the corner place (as we did & still do) It would come up to maximum 4,000LKR. So… my advice to other travellers… DO NOT ACCEPT ANYTHING before you find out the prices. It is very misleading and the wrong thing to do to a kind travellers !
Misleading information Topview bungalow is not far from the town Thank you so much for your great review. It was bit surprising me.So far we didnt receive a review like this.We are running this business for the last ten years. This is a house with a seperate entrance ,balcony ,private washroom for each bedroom with a beautiful mountain & tea plantation view as mentioned by other visitors. I request all my friends and guests to go through all the reviews written by other guests too. Neither you didnt visit the town nor Adamspeak. Just staying at the villa dont predict things. Dear guests. please google our location & find the distance fom the city Our location is very close to the town.railway station .bus stop ,foodcity and all the banks just 5 to 10 minutes walk pl dont mislead the guests by giving wrong information .. Hatton is the main city just before Adamspeak . Staying in Hatton is easier to catch the train or the public transport for your next trip . And also just 45 minutes to 60 minutes by a private vehicle to Adamspeak For home made food we use many herbal ingredients which is very expensive. We provided chicken devil ,(which cost me nearly Rs 2000), rice & curry with 5 to 6 curries including some fruits for 4 adults It cost me more than we billed You enjoyed saying very delicious . Before asking the prise of a meal ,you have to decide the menu Then only We can tell you the prise of a meal. As you mentioned I didnt escape from the question. You have booked for only one room in the two bedroom villa, but I gave two rooms I offered a free breakfast with a cup of coffee .which you didnt order. Enjoying all the stuff & writing a comment like this is a great disappointment for us. Anyway thank you so much for your unexpected review Anat

Verified reviewPriyanthi is a carrying host with a very kind family. She helps you organising your trips, tours & transfers and is serving delicious home made food. I had a great stay and felt comfortable. I got the chance to meet further family member, of a private tea factory visit ... Hatton itself does not have a (western standard) touristic infrastructure, but is surrounded by an incredible countryside: tea plantation as far as you can see, mountains, waterfall, lakes. All you can see/discover on your trip to Adams Peak. Thank you, Priyanthi for taking care of me.
Hi Corinna You were so kind and friendly. We didnt feel you as a guest staying in our place and also you were so generous to help one of the school to get water supply for drinking and provided a nutritious meal for the poor children Its a great blessing for you Corinna We felt very sad when you left us .Hope to see you again in Sri lanka in the near future Although you left us the memories of your stay will remain with us forever .

Verified reviewI had an incredible stay at the Top View Hotel. I was welcomed with open arms and treated like family. The meals are the best in all Sri Lanka, the room pleasant and very clean and the view magnificent. The hotel manager helped me organize my stay and negotiate the tuk tuk prices which were very reasonable. She’s full of ideas and little touches to make your stay comfortable! The hotel is located in the heights of Hatton, quiet, but is only 10 minutes walk from the center. Thank you again, I hope to see you again!
Everything was perfect

Verified reviewWell, what can we say about Top View that hasn’t been said by many other reviewers already… Prianti and ‘Hubby’ are most likely the kindest, most generous and loving people you might ever meet. We were immediately welcomed with warm regards and a cup of tea. The rooms here are spacious and clean and the shower is just right! The shared balcony boasts an amazing view of Hatton and the surrounding tea hills behind. The service here is more akin to spending quality time with friends than being waited on by ‘staff’. We were treated to delicious breakfasts and filling dinners, home cooked by Prianti herself. The food is restaurant quality and should not be skipped out on. Arguably the best place to get food in Hatton! Tuk tuk rides can be also arranged for you at a reasonable price if you wish to visit Adams peak and so on. Our stay at top view was made so enjoyable and relaxed that we left with a lump in our throats and a date in mind already for when we will return. Top View is top notch! Thanks again for making our stay in Hatton so enjoyable. With love, ‘Jesus’ and Caitlin xx

Verified reviewbrilliant view and the owners are crazy helpful and nice!! I had a brilliant stay there all thanks to Priyanthi and her husband! got great tips on what to do in the area and how to get to Adam’s Peak. Priyanthi even called my bus driver in Kandy (while I was already on the bus) to make sure he would drop me off at the right stop in passikudah. if I’ll be back in the area I will go there again.
it’s a bit hard to find in the dark for the first time.
