Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

For a quick stop over this an easy location with a great host. We felt very welcome and comfortable spending time in the common area. Easy to get to aprox 900m from the station. Had a really large ensuite and hot water was good. We had a nice chicken fried rice dinner with the host and loved the welcome tea and cake!

GermanyThe way from the station is along the road so it’s better to use tuk tuks.
Prices are reasonable, you get a nice view and a lot of space in the sharing areas. The manager is friendly and helpful. There are not so many places to eat (we visited the van near the train station and the local shops with samosa etc) but you can also use the kitchen and there is a breakfast. There is an amazing hike just nearby along tea plantages and local villages, we enjoyed it more than the fancy tea factories as dambro.

United KingdomThere were a couple of steps into the en-suite. Potentially a hazard when using the loo at night. The bed had an under sheet but no top sheet - just a blanket which had probably been used by others . We communicated this to the host who said he would make sure a top sheet was provided in the future.
Everything was fine - nothing fancy. The highlight for us was having dinner at The Train View (a guesthouse about 1.5Km away). The food was delicious. Got to meet the hosts family - a very authentic experience

LithuaniaCheap and quite good place for one night to get train to Ella. Helpful manager, tried to do as much as possible in current situation. In photos looks much better, but for such price and one night it is ok. Very noisy beds. Location for train not perfect, but manager arranged tuk tuk. Almost imposible to see the train, around just poor vilage houses. Very unpleasant bathroom...

IndiaThe property is located at a 5 mins drive from Nanu Oya Railway Station, and is super convenient for people who want to stay closer to the station at an affordable price. The property manager can also help you in arranging a tuk-tuk to Nuwara Eliya, which is 30 mins from the property.

New ZealandA little way from town.
This is a large house with all facilities ideal for large family group. It is quite close to train station but a little way from town. I had a good curry at the Redheysu restaurant which is very close.

United Kingdom- There was no soap in the bathroom. I found later on small one in the kitchen. - The kitchen upstairs I was told to use had limited things in it, but then downstairs where the reception is had a big new fridge (which I think was to be used by whoever slept overnight in a bed next to the reception). - The kitchen could use a bit of cleaning. - A pigeon on the roof decided to start 'cooing' early in the morning and woke me up.
I booked the property because I wanted to stay near the train station as I was catching a train the day after. It is in a good place- less than 10 mins away from the train station walking. The house itself is good. I liked the bed I had. I was the only one in the property and he let me choose my room. Overall- the house is super solid! I loved my bed and the room! They also get an extra point for listening- one of the previous comments mentioned they did not have a sheet for the blanket. I was given one which means they read reviews and then take onboard the recommendations.

Sri LankaThe location was ideal for us as it was walking distance from the NanuOya railway station and the bus stop where we took buses to Nuwara Eliya (which is only about 9km and 20-25mins away). The room was clean with a comfortable bed and an attached spacious toilet/bathroom with hot water. There was a communal kitchen/pantry if we needed to prepare food too. Selva the manager was very friendly and helpful in making our stay very pleasant and even helped us with info to visit sights near by (including a gorgeous waterfall where we hiked to and bathed in).

United KingdomThere's no staff there and I wasn't given a contact number, it's in a remote location so it feels a little vulnerable as a solo traveller. They don't supply any water or a kettle and there's nowhere nearby to buy any, so bring your own. Someone comes in the morning to make breakfast and waits for you to eat so they can leave again. Another uncle pops in in the evening, both the staff are very nice but I wouldn't stay here again. Whoever owns this place hasn't given any consideration to guest comfort, in terms of plug sockets, lighting, space for clothes , ability to air out the damp room etc etc.
The room was clean and the bed was comfortable

I was kept waiting at the property for 1 hour in the early morning as I reached about 2.30 am, informed in advance and taken concurrence through Booking official website. Neither the owner nor the property manager turned up. As I returned back to station, property manager called and asked who is attending to guest at night. If facility was not there, you should have responded in negative when I asked you in advance.

IranThere was no electrical outlet..there was only one that was broken. The shower was broken. There was no shampoo and... All the handles were broken. The noise from outside came in. It was about seven kilometers from Nuralia and you had to go by tuk-tuk if you wanted to go somewhere there and you had to pay at least 1300 rupees. The space was small and there was only one room with a private bathroom. The kitchen was terribly dirty and had lizards and cockroaches. The dishes were dirty and unusable. Has no free water ,
