How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
Guidelines and standards for Reviews
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

Verified reviewWe had a wonderful stay at this guest house! The environment is so peaceful and filled with good vibes, with beautiful views all around. The place is run by a lovely and friendly family who made us feel completely at home. The mother of the family cooked us delicious dinner and breakfast that we truly enjoyed. Their son, Ruka, also took us on a tour to explore the area, which was an amazing experience. Everything about our stay was perfect, and we highly recommend this place.

Verified reviewThe food and hospitality was outstanding. They also have a fireplace in the dining room, so it was very nice to warm your feet at the evening, because it gets cold. - bathroom was decent, warm water was also good. - since I am no expert in prices, I cannot say it was a good value.. I hate these stupid questions booking com gives us.
The room we stayed was near the dinig room (No. 13). Since we are noise sensitive, we didn't like it, because there is a window to the dining room (was closed) with curtains, so no one could see you in your sleep or naked :) so the privacy part was ok, but you could hear everything what someone does in the dining room. - The next drawback is no proper heat insulation or heating at the night, and it gets really cold, like 10°C. (The room at the ceiling has opening to outside- small holes). We took an extra blanket, it was warm enough with it, but I got a runny nose. - the floor at out room was outdated. - the blankets can cause you allergies if you are allergic to house dust mite like I am. - dogs at night at the neighborhood made loud noises (howling, barking, and even fighting each other (or fighting monkeys?) Just use earplugs and you are ok, other than that, at the night is rather silence.

Verified reviewWe stayed here recently and enjoyed several aspects of the accommodation. The rooms were big and spacious, and the surrounding area was beautiful with a very nice view. Breakfast was also very good, fresh and satisfying. The highlight was definitely the owner, who was very friendly and kind, making us feel welcome throughout our stay. With improvements in heating and bathroom facilities, this place would be even more enjoyable.
Since the house is old and without heating, it was quite cold during our stay. I asked for heaters, which helped, but it’s something to be aware of if visiting although it was August. The bathroom had no shower curtain, so water spilled everywhere when using the shower, which made it a bit inconvenient.

Verified reviewThe accommodation is located close to the city center and it has a beautiful view. The room was very big and everything was clean and functioning. The staff was really really kind, breakfast was also super tasty.
The room was a bit too cold, as there is no heating. Nevertheless, they put some heavy blankets which kept us warm in the night.

Verified reviewThe host family were very sweet and accommodating. They arranged a delicious dinner at late notice for our large group and the breakfast was generous and very tasty.
There are several very sharp bends in the approach road leading to Travellers Inn in Nuwara Eliya which necessitated that our large coach bus had to park quite a distance away. Our hosts kindly collected our luggage from the bus and assisted with transporting those in our team who were unable to walk the distance.

Verified reviewWe had a wonderful stay at travellers nest inn! The staff were super friendly and made us feel so welcome. The food was absolutely delicious, and the fireplace added such a cozy touch in the evening. The calm environment, good vibes, and beautiful views made it a perfect place to relax. We also joined a tour organized by them, which was very nice and memorable. Honestly, this is the best place we have stayed so far in Sri Lanka, highly recommended!❤️

Verified reviewVery tasty breakfast, clean room and hot water in the shower. On map it may seem far away from the city center but there is a shortcut. There was additional blanket, so it wasn't cold in the night.
High humidity in the room but I think it is because of Nuwaru Eliya's climate, so it is understandable.

Verified reviewThe host and her family were exceptionally friendly and welcoming! They supported us with any logistical needs we had, including finding drivers/taxis. We had breakfast and dinner each night at the inn and it was simply excellent. We enjoyed getting to know the family a bit too, and they are so kind and pleasant. The son of the host even drove us to our next destination of our travels, showing us some interesting sights along the way. It was an all-around wonderful stay and visit!

Verified reviewThe staff at the hotel were very friendly and helpful and the food they provided was quite tasty. The hotel also had a great view of the hills but unfortunately our view was interrupted by constant heavy rain. The blankets provided on the bed kept us quite warm during the night.
The rooms were a bit outdated and appeared to be somewhat gloomy, probably due the the constant rain that we had during our stay. The beds were also difficult to sleep on.

Verified reviewOur hosts, the amenities and the food were lovely. Nuwara Eliya is a bit cold in the wet season (when we visited) but they had extra blankets and there is a cozy fireplace in the dinning hall. Also, you can enjoy beautiful views, althought we didn''t due to the foggy weather. Overall, it is a great place to stay in Nuwara.
Thank you so much for your lovely feedback, It was a pleasure hosting you, and we hope to see you again.💗
