How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
Guidelines and standards for Reviews
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

Verified reviewVery rustic - not for the faint of heart though Beautiful scenery down the valley Cabins were comfy - loved it ! Homemade meal cooked by owner on request x
Should be warnings not to leave food in the room - some type of critter managed to knaw a hole in our rucksack to get to some fruit All part of the wild camping experience!

Verified reviewThe owners were extremely nice, welcoming and helpful from the first minute, we really would like to thank for that (and so sorry for the glass). The breakfast was awesome, always something new. We also tried multiple dinner options and all was very tasty. We liked the fact the tree house is really in the middle of the jungle, surrounded by nature. You have full privacy and it's extremely peaceful. Very unique experience. We also took a 1 hour walk to the closeby river and saw different animals e.g. a beautiful green cameleon. Overal, our experience was great, but you need to consider this is a jungle accomodation. Don't come here if you are afraid of insects and animals .
A/C was not working properly and the hot water can be a bit tricky, but you can ask for help at the reception.

Verified reviewWe arrived as requested by the host by 4:30 PM. However, the room given to us was not very satisfactory. There was dust, the linen was not that clean, and the place was totally infested with ants. We politely informed the host about the situation, stating that the room was not very suitable as a clean room. Additionally, there was no Wi-Fi, no hot water, and no kettle. The host decided to arrange a room in a neighboring facility and made a full refund.
The most upsetting aspect was the lack of adequate cleanliness, and the washroom was really less private, with an open net side wall on one side.
Mr Chulananda, You didn't stay at the tree house. When you arrived since our property was not suitable for your liking, we recommended a different place to you and that's where you stayed. This is not suitable for your age and you agreed on the day that you have come to the wrong place. 1. The room was not satisfactory to you because your wife found it scary that it's in the outdoors. (which is the concept of the tree house but you failed to check on this and have a similar expectation) This is what you communicated to me. 2. The linen was clean. we do the bedding two hours before the guest arrives. I sent you message as soon as the room was done with clean lines and towels at 2 pm. (check-in time) I have a screenshot) 3. There is no wifi in the room. we only have wifi in the common area because the tree house is in the forest. 4. Because you were not satisfied and you said in your own words "I'm okay with the room but my wife is not happy because of the outdoors and the surroundings" we arranged for you to stay at a different place and waived off the cancellation fee to make sure you feel better and not to cause you any disturbance as you are both senior citizens. 5. The tree house has a washroom with an opening to one side to view the outdoors, which is also the concept. However, since you didn't stay and we waived the cancellation fee, this is unnecessary since we also treated you kindly.

Verified reviewThe Tree House is one of two and located in a fabulous jungle/tea estate setting. Morning bird walks were excellent, as were hikes down to the river at the bottom of the property, ideal for river baths. Great view from the Tree House (make sure to keep windows shut when not in the room - there are monkeys in the estate), and even better, no mosquitoes at night, so you can keep the windows open to let in invigorating mountain air. Had 2 delicious breakfasts with the hosts and some very interesting conversations. Thank you Shehan, Pavithra and Binal. If you have a vehicle with a driver, probably more practical for him to stay at the nearby town of Ginigathena. My driver was reluctant to drive the ~2km to his accomodation on the estate because of road conditions, which meant he had to call (and pay for) a 3 wheeler tuktuk whenever I needed him.
Thank you very much Gerard. it was lovely chatting with you as well.

Verified reviewSuperb location. Stunning surroundings. The most lovely hosts you could ever imagine. We had dinner and breakfast in their family home which was such a treat. Very convenient location for rafting, etc
Not a complaint, but be aware that rooms are fairly small and simple. But worth the compromise to be in the jungle surrounded by peace and serenity

Verified reviewMiddle in the jungle with true nature. No disturbing from the outside world. If you want to interact with nature this is one of the best places out there .
Minor issue with electricity due to rural area . But its nothing when you are surrounded by true nature.

Verified review10 things we liked. 1. The stairs downwards to the treehouse were made out of concrete and had light bulbs. 2. The balcony had greater view than we expected, the jungle energy is surreal. 3. The bed sheets were clean and steam ironed. 4. There was a warm shower. 5. There were native old trees around the treehouse. 6. Felt like a personal, private service which made this experience more rich and valuable. 7. They worked as tour guide on the side, and they were veru helpful helping us get to our next destination. 8. The tea/coffee presentation was amazing as well as the seating. 9. Nice family that we supported by staying there, not some corporation. 10. I liked that there was River Cafe right next to the place.
1. There was a large sound when closing the balcony door at night. 2. The shower curtain was dirty and the water pipes towards the shower head, if we could move the shower curtains we could watch out into the nature while showering which would make up for a great experience! 3. Some trash on the side of the house. 4. The insect net around the bed was a bit short so it kept getting off at night, making us insect paranoid people not feeling that much secure while sleeping.
thank you so much for the very honest review. it was nice meeting you both.

Verified reviewWe had a lovely stay! The location is amazing, quiet and peaceful. We came for a few days of rest and the location was perfect for this. The room has a great view and you can walk to the river, owners are really friendly and could tell us a lot about the environment and fauna (and more tips for our stay in Sri Lanka - thanks guys!). The food was delicious and we were really happy we could do our laundry. Recommendable!
It’s good to know that you have to walk up and down hill, and some steep steps, from the main house to the accommodation.

Verified reviewBest place to stay in the center of SriLanka Owners are great people. My baggage was lost, and they gave us their closes! Helped us with the taxi and feed us with a great breakfast. It is a beautiful place with a view to the waterfall. It is the closest place to the nature you can find. Wanna thank the owners one more time!
thanks again Anton for your kind remarks...

Verified reviewHave a beatifull views surrounded by nature.
Way over valued. Unfortunately it was what we expected.. the room wasn't ready when we got there we had to wait almost an hour. The room is very basic, the windows for the beautiful view were dirty and there's nothing to heat water for a hot drink.. the hot shower wasn't working and not top sheet... When we went for dinner they served us experience dishes and small plates of food, and spicy, although we had said we didn't want spicy food. There was a miss understanding and they give us a plate of COLD rice to go with our food.. which they then charged for !!! Breakfast was 40mins late although we had said what we wanted and what time we wanted in the night before.. but it's was good and tasty. Come to billing time.. the bill isn't ready for us although the tuktuk is waiting and they know what to charge us.. Get your bill ready ! And then they wanted to charge us "Service charge" for the bedroom as well as the meal ! We ending up discussing the service charges and still paying 18000rps for one night! That's the most we have ever payed in this country and we had to pay for the hot drinks which are included in the most modest accommodations of sri lanka..... Other than that, you are in beautiful nature with fantastic view. And the WiFi in the main building worked well ! The worst was that the host was impolite to us at the end and ignored us when we calmy tried talking over the billing issue...
thanks for your very generous review 😊 once again I won't be putting any effort into arguing with you or explaining your behaviour in detail here. you refused to pay the service charge and we reduced it form your bill and I refused to argue with you. your behaviour was very rude but we excused it and let you go because you were in our household and we don't want to cause any issues. we too are very disappointed in guests like yourself who try to act superior just because we are a small hotel. Thank you and take care.

Verified reviewOwners where very friendly the helped us a lot to any requests we had: breakfast options, organize transfers, organize excursions for rafting and trips, too early check out with breakfast, prepare dinner. The most helpful and friendly persons we met.
Some minor repairs in the tree houses are needed (broken chairs for example) but what you expect in a tree house.
Thank you for your very generous review Petros! We really appreciate it.

Verified reviewThe food was amazing!!! Definitely try the Sri Lankan breakfasts, and the homemade pizzas for dinner! The views were stunning, and surrounded by dense and private jungle. I felt very safe wandering around the property, and the hosts were only a text away if I felt I needed assistance or a tuk tuk. Pavithra and her beautiful family had plenty of recommendations of where to visit next, and offered a really unique perspective into the culture of Sri Lanka. This was my first landing point in Sir Lanka, and I feel very lucky to have stumbled into their beautiful family and space. The treehouse itself was beautiful, rustic, and a total vibe in the rainy weather (picture this - jungle, rain, tree top views, mountains and mist -- a writers dream, and so beautiful!)
I liked it all.
Thank you so much Belinda. We appreciate your very generous review!

Hi Imendra.. this is disappointing to know. We wish you had told us this while you were here because we kept in touch via WhatsApp messages throughout your stay. We could have sent our staff or we could have talked about it and made arrangements to make you feel comfortable. Since you didn’t mention this during your stay, we had no idea you felt this way. However, thanks for letting us know. We will make improvements.
