Read more– opens a dialog boxEach review score is between 1 and 10. To get the overall score you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of them. We use a weighted review system, which means the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. Guests can also give separate “subscores” in crucial areas like location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value, and free Wifi. Note that guests submit their subscores and overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an accommodation that you booked through our platform if you stayed there, or if you got to the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialize in detecting fake reviews submitted to our platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team so that our fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we'd publish every review we get, positive and negative. However, we won’t display any reviews that include or refer to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out. We may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old, or if the accommodation has a change of ownership.
An accommodation can reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (e.g. language, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). You can sort and/or filter them by time of year, review score, and more.
Sometimes we show external review scores from other well-known travel websites, but make it clear when we do this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly, without limiting expression or strong opinions. They're also applicable regardless of the comment's tone.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, or the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and other similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties, and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options might be available (by type of traveler, by score, etc...).

United KingdomThe hut we stayed in was not the one in the photographs, but much older and much more simple. It was very very basic - which is fine, but you need to be prepared for it!
The location is out of this world. Truly awesome to be in the forest and close to a beautiful river and waterfall

United KingdomMy feet.
Right, take note. This is not a Swiss chalet so remove that thought immediately. This is a place for only those who are, essentially, predisposed to love of being outside, in the wilderness, exploring everything nature has to offer in all its glory, pain and everything in-between. If this sounds like you, read on, if not then I suggest you look for more what some may call 'luxurious' or 'comfortable' surroundings elsewhere and save yourself the trouble of walking into the jungle, attempting to roll suitcases along forest trails and across rivers. However, if this makes you think about dusting off your sleeping bag then you are in the right place. The two who have developed this jungle basecamp - think Dianne Fossey for closest example which springs to mind - are scientists. They study and discover what lives in the jungle wilderness and through their own efforts have made one tree house with flushing toilet and sink, and a surprisingly comfortable bed next to the endless torrent of the waterfall where you can have a shower, naturally if you clamber up towards it, or a bath if you feel more inclined to head downstream. There is another accommodation further up the hill and away from the waterfall which I did not visit. Treks can be organised into the jungle and up through primary and secondary forest, and to some very beautiful and remote vistas where it is clear not many people will visit for touristic purposes, if ever at all. Remember some tight fitting shoes, the jungle is merciless on feet given half the chance. The locals are obviously well weathered for such exertion, so it may not be best to follow their lead in footwear though the choice is, obviously, yours. What greets you after your efforts does feel like time has forgotten it. It is jungle. It is dense. It is Sri Lankan rainforest. Local people don't speak English so expect a guide through the forest, not a guided tour of botany and wildlife.

Sri LankaBeautiful cottage with a waterfall view in the middle of nature. This place is perfect for nature lovers. Not the ones who need facilities and are scared of leeches or need electricity to always be connected with their devices. Those people should book hotel. This cozy basic cottage is in front of the waterfall, pure jungle and raw nature. Calm and simple. Truly authentic experience. Campfire at night, bath in river and hiking one of most scenic hikes in Sri Lanka. If you truly love to experience nature come here, if you just like the view go to hotel. This is remote and jungle experience not for people who cry when bug bites them.

AustraliaThis accommodation is primitive, mouldy pillows, old linen, damp matresses, basic dinners, no BBQ, NO facilities as per listed: there were ants, bed bugs, and bugs - totally unlike any of the description or photos on Booking.com.. Despite 3 emails from the Trekkers Hut team re arrangements, no one was expecting us, no guide had been organised as requested, nothing was clean or ready for us. We had complimentary breakfast on our booking but only received 1 breakfast on a two day stay. Basic, bananas and 6 fried coconut bites - cold - and a thermos of hot water to make tea or coffee. And the price was US $91.00 !!!!
The location was excellent, beautiful waterfall and river, relaxation in the jungle was surreal, peaceful. The staff tried their best to provide for us but were not expecting us.

BelgiumTo get to the hut you need to walk a good 15 minutes in the rainforest from the last point reachable by car/tuktuk. This walk was not easy, it goes over a river, goes up and down and has slippery paths. We were carrying a lot of luggage (since our total trip in Sri Lanka was 2,5 weeks) which made that this was not an enjoyable experience. The hosts didn't really offer to help carry our stuff. The noise of the waterfall is pretty loud in the hut. But when it rains on the metal roof it gets realy loud, we put on some music on our headphones to be able to fall asleep. There were no towels available. The place is very humid which makes it difficult to let your towels and other things get dry. When the rain was pouring we noticed a small leak in the roof above the main bed (with mosquito net) which made us switch beds since rain was dripping on us. They told us they would fix this leak immediately after our stay. We ate breakfast, lunch and dinner here since there's no other places to eat closeby, but they really overcharged us for the food. All the food was very spicy, they continued to give us very spicy food (even for breakfast) also after knowing that one of us didn't like the spiciness. The hosts don't speak English at all. One person came to translate and arrange some things, but his English was also not great. The guide we got for our hike in the forest didn't speak any English. He was just there to lead us the way but didn't show us any animals, didn't wait for us as we didn't walk this fast on the slippery steep paths. There were a lot of leeches in the forest. We had already encountered them on other hikes, but the guide didn't really help us to get them off our bodies and clothes. We didn't have the exact amount of money and the guide had no change so we ended up being forced to pay 5000 instead of 2000 rupees. This place is quite expensive considering all of the negative points stated above.
Very beautiful location. When the weather is good it's lovely to have a dip in the river/waterfall (aka shower). The hut is larger than we thought, the bathroom with toilet and sink was handy and clean. The hosts arranged a guide to take us for a hike in the forest.

Sri LankaEverything was good. At night, it becomes a bit cool and wet also because of the waterfall vicinity. So you need to have warm clothes with you, maybe to sleep even. These rather cold nights happen in January and February in Sri Lanka.
Trekker's Hut is located close to a wonderful waterfall and in the beginning of the forest track to Knuckles forest reserve. You can hang nearby while bathing in the waterfall or go hiking. It may take the all day and suits for nature and hiker lovers.

AustriaWhat a place... Away from all the hustle and stress on the streets, surrounded by nature at its finest. The whole team is doing an incredible job to make your stay one beautiful experience. You got it all right there. Jungle, waterfalls, bonfires, delicious food, and the best hiking you can find. The trail we did with the local guide was definitely one for the books. After hiking for a few kilometers through the jungle, and beautiful grasslands you will be rewarded with one of the most spectacular places on earth. But enough spoilerd. Just go there and enjoy this incredible place by yourself:) Thank you for everything

SpainIt is in the middle of the jungle, perfect to do hiking. They took care of us during our stay. It is definitely one of our favorite places we visited in Sri Lanka, highly recommended if you want adventure We are a couple, one of us loves adventure and hiking in the jungle while the other is more used to regular traveling. The adventure one just loved the place because is perfect to be in nature and just at the start of amazing trails with waterfalls (you actually sleep next to one waterfall). The other, despite not being his preferable choice, thanks to the hoster, felt safe and enjoyed the place very much. They provide typical Sri Lankan food which we loved and the hoster explained how people live there and the nature, it was great to learn so much from the locals.
