How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
Guidelines and standards for Reviews
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.

Verified reviewLarge bed, nice vibe with terrace breakfast, sometimes can see animals. Walkable distance to the beach. Breakfast was diverse but small and not to everybody’s taste.
Zero supplies in the room, not even soap and toilet paper. Noisy at night coz some animals were running at the roof. The room description is inaccurate on Booking.com, so be careful. There’s an AC in the room but they don’t give you remote control trying to get extra daily charge for it. It’s written in the description that they have washing machine but in reality it’s inside the host’s house and they want to charge higher than outside laundry for using it. Kitchenette for common use is very outdated, pans and pots are super old, you wouldn’t want to use them for cooking.

Verified reviewThe location was really nice, it was surrounded by jungle/trees so there was a lot of wildlife around. The owner is great, taking care of our needs and the breakfast is delicious it changed each day which we liked. The room was spacious and the outside area is a nice place to relax.

Verified reviewWe were there for 3 nights and had a wonderful stay! Host was very friendly and made a very nice breakfast with different fresh juice every morning. Room is spacious and clean with good shower and aircon as well. Lovely view of the forest and perfect location near shops and beach!

Verified reviewThe room is quite big, very well located while quiet at the same time, just next to the forest so you can spot some monkeys if lucky... five min walking to the beach and plenty of restaurants around. Thilak is a great host that is willing to help at all times. Definitely recommended.

Verified reviewThe breakfast was great. I had western and Sri Lankan breakfast. The fresh juice was a nice change. The family has a tuk tuk so they can take you to galle. The wife is an excellent cook and gave me an excellent evening meal
I was the only one there. In addition festival was one and someone said there was 150 000 there. I am unsure but it was certainly crowded. Unfortunately i missed the parade

Verified reviewThe backpackers lodge is just nearby the jungle. Get up early in the morning to see the monkeys swing by or the water monitor take his daily walk. Moreover, you get to enjoy a breakfast at your stay and the room is very spacious.
I would immediately stay there again.

Verified reviewWe loved our stay. The owners were very friendly and attentive. We extended our stay and they agreed a slight discount. They also washed our clothes for free as we were long-term guests. The guesthouse is positioned right next to jungle so has fantastic views of the wildlife - monkeys, lizards, birds and more.
The bed was rather creaky and disturbed our sleep often. But that was the only fault.

Verified reviewWe enjoyed our stay here alot. Even tho it was really spontaneous, the friendly guy was super helping and carring. The house is directly in the center but in one of the side roads so its not to loud in the night. To the beach its less then 5 min by walk.

Verified reviewWe loved our stay here. Was the perfect set up for our family with use of the outside kitchen to cook our children’s food. Great location, just tucked away off the main strip. We loved feeding the monkeys from the balcony!
The bathroom in one of the bedrooms smelt of sewage which wasn’t pleasant!
