How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
Guidelines and standards for Reviews
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

Verified reviewThe staff were so welcoming with a lovely cup of tea and fresh cake the bathtub was excellent overlooking the tea fields.
The place is a bit old with the painting but generally clean and tidy, The Buddhist chanting at 6am is definitely annoying

Verified reviewFriendly welcome with tea & cake on the balcony. The villa was beautiful and very clean. The staff were friendly & extremely helpful. The villa is just out of town but not far off the main road.
The photo of the view from the bath must be out of date as there is now another building, and the view is not of tea fields as suggested (see photo). Suggestion: another mirror in the bedroom please-there is only the one in the bathroom which gets steamed up and is not near a socket.

Verified reviewThe staff were able to make us breakfast early as we had to catch a train.
Small cramped room and old facilities. No internet available in the room.
Dear Lemme, Thank you for your stay and thank you for highlighting the lovely breakfast and the other details in your review. We too felt that we did not justify your value for money because you arrived around 9:30pm and left at 7:00am for your train. You hardly spend anytime with us. As you know, we are located in the middle of a tea estate and we do many activities with guests if we had time. Sadly your stay was just few hours where we did not have anytime to treat you. I'm not sure what exactly happened with Internet, but as you can see from 100s of other reviews, we do have working internet and it works well. We are very sorry about it. We sincerely wished that you stayed for slightly longer where we would have given you the full experience. We do hope that you enjoyed your stay in Sri Lanka and went back to your country safely. If possible we would love to welcome you back again one day and if you do, I will personally ensure that you will have the most amazing stay with us. We are looking forward to welcoming you again soon :)

Verified reviewThe owner was very welcoming, friendly and helpful. The breakfast and our treat. Can't fault the staff. I Loved the bath. Area was nice. Bed was good. Problem was there was a large amount of mold in the bathroom and bedroom. Which I forgot to take a picture. I didn't realise it wasnt a villa to ourselves and each room has someone else in. I may have just read it wrong. We were literally there less than14hrs

Verified reviewVery helpful staff, comfortable bed, good place to recuperate through illness. Thank you to the staff who helped us to be comfortable while we were not well. Sadly we didn’t see much of Nuwara Eliya but we were grateful to have a home away from home to rest up for our onward journey.

Verified reviewStaff was friendly
Room looked like they started renovations but never finished it. Doors and walls never finished painting. Randomly weird pieces of dirty carpet glued to the floor. Windows wouldnt close properly so big gaps left. Same in the bathroom. Window frames falling apart and not properly closing. It was cold, 16 degrees outside, because of all the gaps everywhere there was a cold draft inside what made it very unpleasent to be in the room...hardly any sockets to charge a phone. Doesnt even remotly looks like the pics online. All in all the most uncomfortable place Ive stayed my entire trip trhough SL. @ 100 USD I should rate em with a 2 or so, but dont want to bring down their overall rating...Ive stayed in much much better places for 1/4 of the price.
Dear Grace, Thank you for your kindness and appreciating our staff to have taken a good care of you. As for the points you had highlighted, we have immediately looked into the window matter thank you for highlighting it. Even before your review was published, at the very moment you checked out we looked into it and fixed it. Not sure what had happened to it but moment we saw it we solved it. We are very sorry that you felt this to be uncomfortable. As you can see from many other guests feedback, we generally take a good care of our guests and as you can see they are mostly happy with their stay. We understand that you would have felt its not worth with an unexpected incident like the window in the bathroom. As mentioned again and again, we are very sorry about it and please be rest assured that we are better than that. We do hope that despite this, you had enjoyed your stay in our beautiful country and enjoying home :) We would love to welcome you back again soon, if you do, you will notice that we have taken all your feedback into account and looked into each and every one of them.

Didn’t get to sleep easy as the floor is so loud if your on ground! We were kept awake for about 3 hours while people walked back and forward no idea doing what late in the evening we could hear every step! Needed to be up early for train journey! Bathroom and room dingy needs updating . Lovely staff but wouldn’t return sorry
Dear Sharon, We know this incident very well and this was SHOOTING OURSELVES IN THE FOOT. We know that you had a wonderful stay with us but we sincerely apologize for what happened during the late night. Let us explain, at our property, we only host couples, we don't host groups or families. On this day at 9:45pm in the night 4 ladies (from an east asian country) simply walked in to ask if we have accommodation. We had our family room for which we no longer take families, we only host couples in it. It would have been lot easier if we had told them no we don't have rooms, please find another property. However the issue was it was already late and we know from experience its difficult to find places at this time of the day. So even though we know that Sri Lanka is very safe, letting 4 young ladies go at this hour was not an option. So after a long internal discussion we decided to give them the family room and informed them that There are already guests at the property and they are sleeping, not to make too much noise as we are making an exception to the policy to keep them. Sadly this favor turned on our head, they made lot of noise until 1am in the night and this was VERY DISSAPOINTING. Not just you, other 2 poor couples too had the same issue. As for us, we decided never to consider things like these again because KARMA TURNED BACK ON US ! We are very sorry for this isolated incident. We can't give you back your good night sleep but we hosted them with a good intension which sadly they did not pay back.

Verified reviewFriendly staff that were appointed to the villa and helped us arrange several excursions, generous breakfast. Quality linens and towels in the room plus tea and coffee making facilities. Shower pressure good and hot water was plentiful. We loved the tea and biscuits on arrival served on the veranda over looking the tea fields.
The noise from the upstairs room there was very little insulation and occupants were getting ready to leave from 3-4:30am which kept us awake for a large proportion of the night. The location is a bit out of the way. Bathroom in need of a refresh.

Verified reviewVilla Tea Fields is nicely decorated and has a pool table, a nice terrace overlooking tea plantations yet still quite close to town. The adequate breakfast was included.
Whole place could do with a thorough clean. Drain in our bathroom was blocking. Communal areas floors were dirty. Flowers in vases were wilting. It all contributed to a lack of attention to detail. Everything was Ok, but with more general maintenance it would be so much better.
