How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
Guidelines and standards for Reviews
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

Verified reviewWe could not be more pleased with our stay at the guest house. The host and family are so kind and helpful, including the children. We were picked up from Trincomalee and dropped off at Kandy, drop off and pick up from Sigiriya rock, a full day tour of the ancient city of Polonnaruwa. All of this included stops at so many places that we would never had seen otherwise, recommendations of places and activities, such as buffalo curd, spice gardens and a sunset viewpoint. We felt like had a personal chauffeur and tour guide during our 3 days. From a feed perspective, we had a delicious home cooked dinner on arrival and Breakfast was copious and with the most spectacular and unique view of the Sigiriya rock. The rooms were clean, air conditioned, tastefully designed and the bed was very comfortable.
Our only disappointment during our stay, which is not the fault of the owners, was a safari in Minneriya National park which they helped to organise. Initially we were recommended to go to Hurulu but at the last minute we were told that the elephants had moved. Entrance fees for Minneriya are very expensive and after having also visited Yala on a full-day tour, the half-day tour in Minneriya, which only lasted 4 hours total, less than 3 hours in the park, was not worth the high price that we paid for it.
We really felt like family during the three days you were there. We tried our best to give you a fresh experience. I am really happy that you appreciated it. I also appreciate the postcards we sent you and how much you appreciated them and how much they made the children happy. I hope you all come back to my little hotel one day. This is your home in Sri Lanka♥️

Verified reviewThe view from the top of the guest house is what makes this place so good. We had an excellent Sir Lankan breakfast up there, with a view of Lion's Rock and the paddy fields. The room is quite small, but very clean and with nice touches, such as an electric kettle, shampoo, shower mats - little touches I didn't see often in Sri Lanka. The guest house is owned by an enterprising local family. They have a lovely garden with little statues and a swing.
thank you very much my friend ♥️

Verified reviewI had an absolutely amazing stay. The location was perfect – easy to get around but peaceful and scenic, with a spectacular view of Sigiriya rock and rice fields that made every morning feel special. The hospitality was truly outstanding – the hosts were warm, attentive, and went above and beyond to make sure I was comfortable and cared for. The local breakfast was delicious! I also really enjoyed the relaxing Ayurvedic massage that felt awesome after the hike. They also offered transport for my sunrise hike, which made everything so easy and stress-free. I felt genuinely welcomed and pampered throughout my stay. I would absolutely return and highly recommend this guesthouse to anyone looking for a memorable, heartwarming experience with the best view.
When you came to my hotel, I felt like you were at home. Come back one day. May you be successful in my little hotel.

Hosts organised tuk tuk driver for us, who we used for the 2 days we were in Sigiriya. An awesome stay, we will be back!

Verified reviewMy stay at Sigiriya Water Guest and View Point was, without a doubt, the highlight of my time in Sri Lanka. From the moment I arrived, I felt truly welcomed and cared for by the owner and his lovely family who became more than a host - he felt like a friend who cared for me every step of the way, filling my days with warmth. Their kindness and attention made all the difference, turning a simple stay into a heartwarming experience. The location is perfect—peaceful, surrounded by nature, and just a short ride from the majestic Sigiriya Rock. The rooms are comfortable and clean, with beautiful views that invite you to slow down and enjoy the moment. Breakfast was simply wonderful—fresh, homemade, and served with so much love. But what made my evenings truly magical was the live music show during dinner: a beautiful, intimate performance by the owner and his son that filled the air with joy and soul. This guesthouse isn’t just a place to sleep—it’s a place where you feel at home, connected to the people and the land. I’ll always carry this memory in my heart. Highly, highly recommended.

Verified reviewWe had the most magical stay here with the beautiful family that is Anjula and wife (sorry I don’t have your name!) and son Kavisa. They are such kind, warmhearted and gentle souls that welcomed us to their own home. We arrived late at night and they prepared a custom made dinner from scratch for us and Kavisa sang and danced which brought me to tears (I’m not normally emotionally expressive like this but they are a very special family). The guest house is set over several floors and is clean, bright and well air conditioned. The proximity to Lion Rock is perfect - they recommended we reach there for 4.30 in order to make the sunrise on the ascent. We came back in time for a breakfast at around 8AM of fresh papaya juice and a delightful spread of Sri Lankan rotis, pancakes, hoppers, Ceylon tea and so on. The stunning view of Lion Rock as we breakfasted was just the cherry on top. Our toddler enjoyed experiencing the pulley system for transferring breakfast items to and from the ground floor. Kavisa is such a beautiful, sweet soul and played with/looked after my children, particularly the younger one, swinging her on the swinging bench, picking apples from the garden for her and also treating her mosquito bites with plants from his garden. He knows a lot of about nature, wildlife, mini beasts and herbology. What an incredible time we had here, that we will hold dear in our hearts forever. 💜💜💜💜
Everything was perfect
We can't believe how much appreciation we have received for our hospitality. We invite you to visit our lovely family again one day. Good luck to you.

Highly recommended for family and couple who likes to experience the culture and privacy.

Verified reviewHosts were so lovely, showed us up to our room then greeted us with coffee and biscuits. Their hospitality is unmatched! The view at the top is the best in the area, and breakfast here was a highlight. On our day out, they packed us some watermelon and we picked our own coconuts. Dinner was delicious and we even had some after-dinner entertainment! They also brought us out some postcards to send home!! So thoughtful and lovely.
I am glad that you appreciated our service. Please come back to my little hotel one day. Have a nice trip.
