Each review score is between 1 and 10. To get the overall score you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of them. We use a weighted review system, which means the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. Guests can also give separate “subscores” in crucial areas like location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value, and free Wifi. Note that guests submit their subscores and overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an accommodation that you booked through our platform if you stayed there, or if you got to the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialize in detecting fake reviews submitted to our platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team so that our fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we'd publish every review we get, positive and negative. However, we won’t display any reviews that include or refer to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive info (e.g. emails, phone numbers, credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (i.e. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out. We may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old, or if the accommodation has a change of ownership.
An accommodation can reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (e.g. language, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). You can sort and/or filter them by time of year, review score, and more.
Sometimes we show external review scores from other well-known travel websites, but make it clear when we do this.
Guidelines and Standards for Reviews
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly, without limiting expression or strong opinions. They're also applicable regardless of the comment's tone.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. The rooms without A/C are quite warm.
Simple but Clean rooms. Very friendly staff. We had a romm with A/C and one without. I do definitly recommend A/C. The small garden is nice planted and the lobby is a comfortable place to relax. The location is almoast on the beach in the more quiete part of Aguram Bay. The partymile is far enough that you can sleep.

Rusty feeling from bathroom water. No longer have the coworking space Communal kitchen could be cleaner No A/C
Welcome drink on arrival Yukan, the host, was available for anything and would help you with anything. The location is great. Even if it's on one hand of Arugam bay, you are far from the road and the noise. Communal area were you meet friendly people

The place is lovely and the staff is so friendly. Youkan speaks really good english and it was nice chating with him. We came early for check in and while we were waiting for our room to be ready to check in they gave us a free fruit juice - so nice and yummi.The rooms are nice, clean, simple and kind of Boho style. There is a common area to sit, chill or (co-)work. You also have a shared kitchen if you want to prepare your own food or put something in the fridge. They also offered free drinking water. Thank you Youkan (staff) for lending us your helmet. Wishing you a good season and nice customers. Ulli&Maren (the 2 german girls)

Patito and Margot created a very nice community vibe in this hotel and are the best hosts! The coworking space is a real plus for digital nomads, I recommend 1000% this place in Arugam Bay!

The bathroom had an eggy smell the whole time we were there. The pillows were very flat.

In the first room, the water in the shower was slightly salty and the toilet flush didn’t work properly. While the staff tried to help, the issue wasn’t fully resolved. After switching to the second room, things unfortunately got a bit worse. There were quite a lot of mosquitoes and spiders inside, and the room didn’t feel very clean. It also seemed a bit run-down compared to the first one, which affected our comfort.
We really enjoyed the overall atmosphere of the place. The location was great and peaceful, and the owner was very kind and welcoming. Our first room was small but very charming.

I was greeted very nicely with a refreshing drink when I arrived a little early. Yukan the host was always friendly and helped me with a problem with the local bank when I asked about it. There is a pleasant atmosphere and you can always ask the staff if you have any questions. The quieter part of the beach is 2 minutes away, which is great .I would recommend this accommodation!

I stayed one night at Wave Hunters Hostel and had a great experience. The staff were super friendly and helpful, always ready with a smile.The rooms were clean and comfortable, exactly what you want after a day at the beach. The location is perfect — just a short walk to the beach, which made it easy to catch the sunset and enjoy the ocean. It’s also close to shops and cafes, so everything you need is nearby. Highly recommend this place for anyone looking for a laid-back, clean, and well-located stay near the beach!

Great stay for solos and couples. Perfect location right next to one of the best restaurants in Abay. Not far from the beach. There were few thing that should be fixed like non working lightbulbs in the room and a smell from the shower room, but closing the shower door helps prevent the smell

The bathroom had a broken bidet and was not cleaned. The wifi didn’t actually work for our room as it was too far away from the router.
It was very close to the beach and it was good enough for us to just stay a couple hours for that one night.

There is no aircondition in the room but for the price you cant complain about it.
Good Equipment for this price! Best in town. Good location. Close to All Cafés and friendly housekeeper. Escpecially the Lady ind the Kirchen was so helpful

We had the best time ever at Wave Hunters! The rooms are nice and simple and the whole area is super cozy. The hosts (Patito and Margot) are super cool and chill and help you with everything:) The hostel is very social, you can go surfing together everyday and hang out in the hostel! We wanted to stay 3 nights there and ended up there for 3 weeks🤗 We really loved everything about the place and can not recommend it enough!

I loved my stay at Wave Hunters. I would highly recommend it to any solo travellers and couples. The vibe that the owners have created is so so good, which makes it super easy to meet and hang with other guests. One of the owners would organise regular surf trips, where we would take a rickshaw to a nearby break. The common area is really nice and the breakfast served at the bar is exceptional. Super good value-for-money, as the rooms were spacious, clean and comfortable. Couldn't recommend this place more!

The room and the towels were not super clean, but the place just opened so I’m sure they’ll get better soon
The place is really nice, both the room and the common space. The owners are really nice and there is a nice vibe, I recommend it both to solo traveler and couple, it’s a good place to meet people and be social
