Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.

By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

United KingdomLil and his wife Boudicca run a great place. It’s across the road from the park entrance. The evening meal they served us was comfortably the best curry we had in 2 weeks in Sri Lanka. Incredibly reasonably priced too. Went on a half day safari with Lil (he’s a jeep safari driver). Spotted all sorts of wildlife including 3 leopards. Would stay again in a heartbeat.

I had a wonderful stay at Wilpathu Mookalan Resort. The place was very clean and well maintained, which made it really comfortable. The owner and his son were extremely kind and welcoming, and their hospitality made the experience extra special. Dinner was prepared by the owner himself, and it was absolutely delicious — truly a highlight of the stay! The resort is also perfectly located, just at the entrance of Wilpattu Forest Park. From here, it’s only a short walk to the nearby lake, where you can spot elephants, crocodiles, and enjoy the beauty of the natural surroundings. It was such a nice and memorable experience staying here. I will definitely recommend this resort to anyone visiting Wilpattu.

United KingdomExcellent place to stay. So close to the national park. Literally a 2 minute walk to the gate, this meant we could be one of the first to enter in the morning so we weren't queuing for ages like others. The rooms were a good size, we had a double bed each, air con, fan, mosquito net, hairdryer, fridge, kettle. The food provided by the family was super delicious. They arranged our safari and were a very good price and very convenient. We were lucky and saw Leopards, Sloth Bear, Elephants, Jackal, Crocs etc.

United KingdomThe room was very clean but very basic. Totally fine - and very reasonable - for what we wanted but don’t go expecting any luxury. Go for the experience.
This is a fab family run place on the edge of Willpattu. We stayed there and did a morning safari. At dusk we took a walk around the lake on the edge of the park - and saw wild elephants, crocodiles, tons of butterflies and toucans. It was magical. The owner cooked us a delicious home-made dinner. And the father got up at 4am to get our entrance tickets so our safari jeep was third in line! Amazing of him. He drove us and he was great - we saw leopards, storks, crocodiles and a black bear! It was all a great experience and that was largely down to the lovely family who own the place.

LuxembourgA bit of smell in the bathroom. Strong cleaning products?
The location is just great as you can walk to a big lake where animals come at dawn. We saw elephants and crocodiles even before our safari. We even had the visit of an elephant during the night. The dinner was prepared with love and was excellent and the safari they arranged was perfect. We were the third car in the morning. No waiting time. Big thank to the staff

Fantastic location, nice bungalows and amazing owners, so friendly and helpful. Best people to organise your safari, getting vehicles near front of queue. The son of owner is a great wildlife spotter. We did one full day in park and one night safari, both excellent. The local curry and rice they cooked for us was excellent, in fact all food good and plentiful. Lots of birds around, elephant walked down the road while awaiting dinner plus lake very close for birds and elephants sometimes. Comfortable beds a bonus, not rock hard like some.

AustraliaLoved everything
In a great location. Rooms basic but all you need The owners cannot do enough for you. They were so lovely. Dad, Leel, has only a little English but really no problem communicating with a great smile. Didn’t meet the Mum unfortunately but she is a great cook. All the food was so delicious And the jeep safari with their son, Nisal, was fabulous. We did see 3 leopards, but ‘see’ not exactly, with old eyes is more difficult However we did see one quite clearly when it came down from being asleep in a nearby tree & sauntered off into the bush. Amazing!! I believe it’s a very rare thing to see one in the wild in Sri Lanka but here you have a better chance to do just that Heaps of other animals to tick off too Crocodile, buffalo, one big bull elephant, mongoose, any number of gorgeous birds

New ZealandLovely family that were keen to help. Room very clean and mosquito nets over both beds. Air con and fan in the room as well as fan on the porch. Table and chairs on the porch, lots of critters around just outside the door given the proximity to the park and the bushy location but caused no trouble. Large beautiful dinner as well as breakfast and lunch on the safari. Good safari, son came with us and communicates well, providing lots of insight into what you are seeing.

NetherlandsReally nice family run place, right next to the entrance of the park. It's also next to a lake where we saw elephants at the end of the afternoon. The food cooked by the mom was delicious. The son took us on a safari, he got up an hour early to get the entrance tickets so we could skip the line. We even saw a leopard! Lunch on the safari was also 10/10. All in all a great experience.

AustraliaAbsolutely nothing!
What a gorgeous little family run place! They organised the most incredible safari - my guide and I had 15 minutes alone with a leopard, peacefully travelling along the track behind her - we definitely had the best experience of anyone in Wilpattu that day. guya (I’m sure I’ve spelled his name incorrectly!) was so respectful of the park and the animals, always staying on the tracks and keeping a good distance from wildlife. I was really impressed. I can’t recommend Wilpattu Mooklan enough. It’s a very special little place in the jungle, surrounded by bird song, and so close to the park you barely need 5 minutes to be at the entrance at opening time in the morning. Exceptionally clean, and run by the sweetest hosts who can’t do enough for you. Incredible value for money, considering such a remote location. The hosts try so hard to communicate well, and do a great job. Thank you, an experience to remember🙏

GermanyCommunication did not always work. Putting large holes in mosquito nets just to drape them nicer is really nonsensical. Too expensive, but you pay for the location.

AustraliaA lovely family-owned business run by an enthusiastic and welcoming family. We stayed for one night and did a full-day safari (never do a half-day safari at Wilpattu!), the next day, which was arranged through them with their own safari jeep. Packed breakfast and lunch were provided by them. The safari experience was absolutely fantastic. We were lucky enough to spot a leopard, a sloth bear, and elephants - an unforgettable experience! The accommodation was comfortable, and the dinner was delicious and clearly prepared with care. The owner and his son were incredibly helpful and made sure everything went smoothly for us.

AustraliaNothing, it has been a lovely experience overall! Bring repellants as bugs are expected everywhere in Sri Lanka
From the moment we arrived until the day we left, we absolutely loved our stay! The property was beautiful, comfortable, and perfectly located close to the Wilpattu National Park making everything so easy for us. The hosts were incredibly lovely and went above and beyond to make us feel at home. They have also organised the whole day safari and a night safari for us! We saw a lot of animals which we really enjoyed and the guides are very knowledgeable on what they do. The rooms are comfortable and have all the basic facilities we needed - the air conditioning was a bonus (especially in a tropical county). We truly couldn’t have asked for a better experience. We couldn’t wait to be back here. Highly recommend.

The comunication with Leel and Nisal was very fluent and helpful before our arrival in Sri Lanka. They arrange the airport transfer to their place, the accommodation for two nights and the amazing safari in Wilpatu NP. Everything was great, all by plan (even the leopards) and we enjoyed a lot our stay. The place is super chill and surrounded by nature, just at the door of the national park. Everything is clean and the meals delicious. The best choice to meet wild fauna and wonderful people. Bohomo istouti!!
