How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
Guidelines and standards for Reviews
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

Verified reviewbeautiful riad in central location within the medina but tucked away at the end of alley, which makes it quiet. Service from the staff are impeccable, especially under the care of Abdellah and Hakim. Got a lot of good local tips with a lot of sincerity. Tried dinner once and food is high quality with excellent presentation, and the waiter who served us was kind and courteous. The whole vibe is positive, and it's a place I would recommend to friends.
Nothing.

Verified reviewBeautiful riad in the centre of the Medina but in a quiet area, accessible to everything. Staff were friendly and helpful and every last detail had been thoroughly thought through.
The only challenging aspect was the shower was a bit low to wash my hair!

Verified reviewRiad Malaika is centrally located inside the old town. The place is spotless and very tastefully decorated. The best part is the staff. They are so nice, well-mannered and helpful. They arranged a porter to help with my luggages to/from bus stop. I also had dinner there one night. Food was delicious. Overall it was a wonderful stay!
Like everything.. but a little fan in the room might help with air flow. Too windy and noisy to open the window.

Verified reviewEverything from start to finish. The staff was very welcoming and helpful, including when I lost an earring. They organised for somebody to wait for us when we arrived by taxi and organised a taxi to the airport. They gave us excellent local advice, from visits to food. There is a great attention to detail everywhere in the riad. The food for a small riad was exceptional from breakfast to dinner. Thank you very much for such a nice and efficient team.

Verified reviewThis is an exceptionally well run hotel in a beautiful, atmospheric riyad, located in a peaceful cul-de-sac in the heart of Essaouira. Our room was great, with a spectacular tiled bathroom. Breakfasts were varied and really good. We also ate a delicious fish dinner there one evening. Nothing was too much trouble for the utterly charming staff. An absolute gem !
Nothing to dislike ! (Note that alcohol is not available - I think this may be normal for traditional small hotels in the medina; there are restaurants and rooftop bars close by that do serve excellent Moroccan wine and beer.)

Verified reviewThe Riad is in an excellent location - central without any noise! It’s near lovely shops and restaurants, with only a short walk to the beach. The team were very welcoming, our host even helped us gain our bearings by annotating a map. A special mention to the kitchen team - the dinner and breakfasts were just delicious.

Verified reviewFabulous place to stay. A beautiful well-appointed riad with service and hospitality to match! Located in the medina, close to souks and restaurants, but in an alley away from all the din. Unlike some alleys that are dark and creepy, this one is not. As a solo female traveler, i felt safe. Room and bed were comfortable and breakfast was very good too. Will definitely stay here again!

Verified reviewThis is a comfortable Riad in the heart of the Medina surrounded by all that Essaouira has to offer. The facility is managed by Hakim and his friendly staff. They serve breakfast and dinner (by reservation).
Because of the location, there is some noise because of all the local activity around it.

The breakfast was the best we had in Marokko and the dinner was also exceptional. We would def recommend to stay here if you visit essouira :)

Verified reviewAn attractive Riad with a clean, tiled bathroom, and a good double bed. Pleasant staff. The central courtyard has a beautiful water feature with scattered rose petals.
At mealtimes a table is allocated according to the size of the room you are staying in. We discovered that unfortunately this meant us taking our meals at a table in the room doubling as an office. We stayed in the hotel to eat one evening. The meal was lovely but we were alone in the room with a photocopier and a table covered in office work. The meal was not cheap and the occasion was spoilt by the lack of atmosphere. It was such a shame.

Verified reviewI absolutely loved this riad (and I have stayed in quite a few!). It is a lovely old building and very tastefully decorated. It is beautifully comfortable and clean. It has a nice, comfortable roof terrace, out of the wind. The breakfasts were delicious. The staff were very helpful. And its in a great location.
