How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
Guidelines and standards for Reviews
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.

Verified reviewThis place is stunning — the architecture, the tilework, the vibe — it’s absolutely gorgeous. During our stay, the riad wasn’t full, so we ended up having a more private experience, and the service was truly exceptional. I want to give a huge shoutout to Mohamed who took incredible care of us. He was warm, attentive, and somehow always appeared the moment we needed something — like magic. We genuinely felt like part of the family. The food was excellent. Breakfast was simple and fresh — they asked how we liked our eggs and took care of the rest. The rooftop views were beautiful, and the location was ideal, right inside the medina. It was a special stay in a beautiful place — calm, kind, and full of heart. Would 100% stay again. 10/10 recommend!

Verified reviewThe riad is magic, with no detail neglected. The rooms are tastefully decorated and the shared spaces are welcoming and thoughtful, whether you want to play billiards or eat a couscous. The outdoor spaces are also incredible with the pool and well manicured plants and fruit trees.
The only thing we didn’t like was leaving Mayfez!

Owner was polite but controlling. We did not feel that welcome. He literally never addressed my female partner. Sexism was palpable and uncomfortable. Walking around the area at night did not feel safe.

Our commitment is to offer personalized service for all our guest, and I am sorry that you were left with the feeling that we did not offer any alternative for those with any dietary limitations. We are used to adapting to any of our guests needs upon request. As we only have 7 suites, we are flexible and can easily adapt to any request. Similarly, our gym has no closing times. The access door is open at any time of the day or night. We understand that everyone has specific needs and different way to communicate, and we are truly sorry that we did not deliver on this particular point. We are particularly surprised and saddened by your feeling that your wife may have been the victim of sexism, as Mayfez is owned and managed by women. Please be assured that if you felt like our butler has not addressed your companion, it is most probably a very unfortunate cultural misunderstanding. With Mrs Houda, managing Mayfez for the last three years, our team is well accustomed to not only living among women, but also being managed by them. We are also sorry that you felt our teams have not been sufficiently at your disposal, although one of our butlers went to the pharmacy to try and get you an discontinued medication, for which you did not have a prescription; while Mrs Houda contacted a doctor to prescribe you an equivalent, which you preferred to refuse. Ultimately, the medina of Fez dates back over 1000 years, and its architecture is unlike any other. High buildings and tiny alleyways may certainly feel spooky at night. Some may find it bewitching, and others, scary. However, the alleyways are equipped with over 250 cameras in the main lanes, including those leading to Riad Mayfez, which makes the area secure. In any case, the medina of Fez leaves no one indifferent. Once again, we apologize for any inconvenience caused, and we hope you will give us another opportunity to provide you with a seamless and enjoyable stay. Verified reviewLuxurious Riad and we were pleasantly surprised by the interior designs and the cleanliness. Breakfast was pretty decent. The staffs were one of the most accommodating we seen in Morocco. They offered to walk us to the Main Street and if we are lost, they were just a call away to pick us up! ( quite easy to find your way back if you use google map ).
It was a little bit unaccessible from the front road but wasn’t much of a trouble as there were services to help with bags or guide.

Verified reviewThe whole place was stunning. Beautiful communal areas and the attention to detail with the fixtures and furnishings were very impressive. All the staff we met were super helpful and friendly. Nothing was too much trouble and the advice about the Riad and surrounding areas was detailed and informative. Big thanks to all the staff especially Mohammed and Houda. Look forward to a return visit at some point.

Verified reviewMayfez is a real gem of a place. We stayed for my partner’s 40th birthday and couldn’t have dreamed of anything more. Stunning rooms, peaceful courtyard, wonderful spa, and excellent food. The real stars are the staff though, especially Houda, Mohammed, Nadia, and our guide Abdul; they all went out of their way to make us feel like we were at home, and were always on hand to help with anything we needed. We can’t thank them enough for making it a truly special and memorable experience.
