How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
Guidelines and standards for Reviews
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

Verified reviewWe had a fantastic stay at this beautiful riad! The location is perfect—right in the heart of the old town, making it super easy to explore everything on foot. The riad itself is stunning, with beautiful decor throughout. Our room was spacious and comfortable, and the rooftop terrace is a lovely spot to relax. The swimming pool was a real highlight, especially with the 43°C heat—it was such a refreshing escape! The team here is incredibly friendly and welcoming—we truly felt at home. And the breakfast? Absolutely delicious, with so much variety and flavour. Highly recommend staying here if you’re visiting Marrakesh!

The structure is beautiful, attention to detail, clean, the food varied, healthy, tasty and breakfast in the courtyard with birdsong is like staying in a fairy tale. The staff is the heart of the riad, welcoming people, attentive to your every need, rare kindness, I could not ask for better!

Verified reviewLoved the breakfast--I would get fat if I stayed too long. It was very generous and a little different everyday. The building was beautiful, I could spend hours looking at everything. The staff were extremely attentive--if you prefer less attention, you should probably very kindly let them know. Especially if you are traveling alone.
After arriving in Marrakech, I read on a local website that it is important to tip riad staff because they earn very little. I actually didn't mind tipping--everyone was so friendly and helpful. But when you add in 10-15% of the total stay for a tip covering all the staff (as the website recommended), it significantly increases the price of the room. If I had know this ahead of time, as beautiful as Riad Afous is, it honestly may have affected my decision to stay there.
Dear Nancy, Thank you for sharing your experience at Riad Afous and we are delighted that you enjoyed Moroccan hospitality. Our team strives to make our guests' stay as pleasant as possible, while respecting their personal space. If your experience was different, we apologize; this approach is both cultural and well-intentioned. Regarding tips: contrary to the site you mentioned (without providing the source), it unfortunately misled you, as there is no obligation to tip staff. They are paid, and tips are left to the discretion of the hosts, as they see fit. We hope to see you soon to share a new experience at Riad Afous. Best regards. Hassiba Riad Afous

Verified reviewWe had a wonderful experience at Riad Afous. From the very begging, they were very attentive to all our needs, including pick up and transfer, meeting us in the square near by (which is very convenient for pick up/drop off), making sure we had information and were well fed! The location is perfect, it’s a great place to start any day from. The rooftop view is gorgeous and serene. The staff were all excellent, and went above and beyond. At all times, we felt very safe and like we had a quiet, beautiful home away from the occasional chaos of the Medina. Thank you!

Verified reviewWe stayed at Riad Afous after trekking in the Atlas Mountains, it was a little tricky to find as google maps seems to put it on the other side of the street but the team were so attentive and sent maps and offered to meet us to ensure we found it easily… it wasn’t required in the end, the instructions were perfect! The room was very luxurious and well equipped, everything was so clean and fresh. Unfortunately we didn’t have time to relax in the pool but there were gowns, towel and slippers provided for this. Breakfast was delicious and they even made it a little earlier for us as they knew we were leaving for a morning flight! I was so impressed by the hospitality, I would definitely stay again.

Verified reviewRiad Afous is in a great position for anyone wanting to stay central - all the main sights and the souks are close by. The Riad itself is a real oasis in the centre of a crazy, chaotic city. Our room was so tranquil with a really comfortable bed and well equipped bathroom. . Breakfast was amazing and served in the beautiful courtyard. The staff are the stars here though. Ibra, Sana and all the others whose names we didn't get were friendly, kind and the epitome of hospitable. The airport transfer was a bonus and would definitely recommend as it made inward and outward travel so much easier.
Not a dislike but the shower in our room was in a sunken bath. Possibly not suitable for someone with mobility issues.
Dear Clare, We would like to thank you very much for your kind comment, which is our greatest reward! Our riad has been restored in the purest tradition, hence the presence of some rooms that are not suitable for people with reduced mobility. However, we do have suites with showers, so don't hesitate to let us know what you would like the next time you come to make your stay even more enjoyable. We wish you all the best and hope to see you again during your next stay in Marrakech. Yours sincerely, Hassiba

Verified reviewNestled in the heart of Marrakech’s vibrant medina, Riad Afous is a hidden gem that offers an unforgettable Moroccan experience. From the moment I stepped through its intricately carved wooden doors, I was transported into a world of tranquility, beauty, and genuine hospitality. This riad is more than just a place to stay—it’s a sanctuary where the essence of Morocco comes alive through its architecture, ambiance, and the warmth of its people. The soul of Riad Afous is undoubtedly its main host, a man whose kindness and knowledge made my stay truly special. From the very first greeting, he exuded a genuine warmth that immediately put me at ease. His passion for Moroccan culture and history was infectious, and he was always ready to share fascinating facts about Marrakech, from the significance of the medina’s labyrinthine streets to the stories behind the city’s iconic landmarks. Whether recommending the best local spots to visit or explaining the intricacies of Moroccan tea rituals, his insights added a rich layer of depth to my trip. His attentiveness and care made me feel not just like a guest, but like a cherished friend. One of the standout features of Riad Afous is its breathtaking view. The riad’s rooftop terrace offers a panoramic vista of Marrakech, with the Atlas Mountains providing a stunning backdrop. Watching the sunrise over the city, with the call to prayer echoing in the distance, was a moment of pure magic. The terrace is also the perfect spot to unwind in the evening, sipping on a glass of mint tea while the sky transforms into a canvas of fiery oranges and deep purples. The riad’s pool is another highlight—a serene oasis that provides a refreshing escape from the bustling energy of the medina. Surrounded by lush greenery and traditional Moroccan tiles, the pool area is a tranquil retreat where you can relax and soak up the sun.

Verified reviewThis was our first time in Marrakech and Riad Afous exceeded our expectations. The location is superb, within the medina, but on a quiet street away from the hustle and bustle yet within easy walking distance to many sites eg 15 min walk to Jmaa El Fna, 10 mins to Ben Youssef Madrasa, 20 mins to the beautiful Majorelle Jardins, 3 mins walk to the pick-up point for day trips. The room was huge with an exceptionally comfortable bed and shuttered windows, making for a very peaceful sleep. Breakfast was amazing, multiple courses of pastries, pancakes, eggs, yoghurt and coffee, all served with a smile by the fountain in the beautiful tiled courtyard.

Verified reviewA beautifully decorated riad with a lovely courtyard and a great rooftop terrace. A really good breakfast, served with a smile every morning by Sana. Comfortable room with good heating, necessary in the chilly mornings and evenings. All the staff were excellent. Ibra was exceptionally friendly, informative and helpful. The night porter, the chambermaid and the lady in the kitchen were all charming.
It was very cold eating breakfast in the courtyard. The showers in the deluxe room could be improved.
