Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

United KingdomNothing much. The tunnel before getting the Riad is little dark in the night but not at all dangerous. It was ok to walk by mother and 7 years old.
We had breakfast at the roof top terrace and the view was amazing, The location is in the middle of medina. The owner family who used to live there is doing everything by themself. Simo helped us many times during our stay, I can't thank you enough.

Simo and his sister are super hosts! They gave us a very friendly welcome. For breakfast they made fresh squeezed delicious orange juice. They warmed our coffee cups and gave us eggs without salt. Just the way we like it. The room is cozy and very quiet. The Riad is very clean. They changed our towels every day. Unfortunately we couldn’t spend much time on the rooftop terrace, which is beautiful; it was just too windy. Location is great and easy to find .

The location is right in the madina was/is the family home of the host (brother & sister). I travel for work quite a bit and work in the hospitality industry the host and their hospitality were outstanding. I was on the back end of a two week trip to Morocco with my 23yr old son who had a bad head cold. Our host offered on multiple times if they could help or if he needed anything. You are staying in a person childhood home and it’s got that vibe.

The atmosphere at the Riad is as if you were guests with your family. Really personal, cozy, full of good energy. they go out of their way to make you feel at home. The breakfast is made by the brother and sister who run this lovely riad. The location is perfect in the medina, but inside it is nice and calm.

NetherlandsThe whole city is covered in cats and the area outside the riad had several kittens. Cute but stinky. This isn't a fault of the riad, and it isn't even a complaint, really. Just be aware of this before you go.
The riad is all about Simo. He is wonderful. It is a family-style riad and Simo becomes your host and family member and friend. If you want to be left alone to just travel, or you want a sterile hotel where you do not interact with anyone, this is not your place. But if you want to feel like you've got a long-lost relative in Essaouira, then this is your place. Breakfast was delicious, made to order. There is a rooftop lounge to hang out on. Each room is unique and funky and has its own unique space. This place has character for miles.

United StatesSimo and his family were impeccably incredible. The room and lounging space was larger than other riads we've stayed at, it was right in the center of the medina, and the kindness, honesty, and care was above and beyond. We were looking to buy spices in Morocco and rather than haggle our way through the souks or potentially getting cheated on on price, Simo said he'd pick up some spices from his personal local favorite place for fair prices. He went above and beyond and I cannot be more thankful or say enough. Breakfasts were delicious with freshly made oj, incredible breads, spreads, and eggs. Shower and bathroom was clean with lovely shower pressure and soft towels. Thank you so much Riad Bab Essaouira!

United StatesWe had the bottom room which was very nice. The Riad was a little hard to find. It was a super location. Right in the middle of the action. The hosts were very kind and breakfast was good with fresh squeezed orange juice. Since we were on the bottom floor, it was a lot of steps to get up to breakfast so wouldn’t be good for someone with mobility issues. We loved it though. Would definitely stay here again.

Having read previous reviews Riad Bab Essaouira seemed to offer what we were looking for. We have just returned from a 4 day trip and we're not disappointed. The Riad is in a quiet location and yet only a minute from the hustle and bustle of the medina. Simo was extremely helpful from organising the cab from and to the airport, meeting us at the medina to take us to what is their family home. He recommended restaurants which we went to on 2 nights and again we enjoyed. He was readily available to answer any questions should you have any. A good breakfast was included to set you up for the day. I would have no hesitation in recommending Riad Bab Essaouira.

Such a lovely, authentic riad run by Simo and his sister. They are delightful hosts, who were so kind and accommodation. Nothing was too much trouble. The rooms are quirky, and very original, with amazing artworks created by this talented family. The breakfasts were excellent. There is a lovely roof terrace where breakfast can be served, with a resident seagull and a view of the sea. It is also perfectly located within the medina. We stayed five nights and were very comfortable.
