After purchasing the Riad, the owner was determined to preserve its original structure and old-world charm while adding modern touches to ensure our guests’ comfort and convenience. Riads, the traditional houses located mainly in the old medina of Marrakech, were once the homes of merchants and their families. These historic buildings generally have three levels: The ground floor, where you typically find the common areas (kitchens, salons, patios, etc.). The first floor, where the family’s rooms were located for more privacy. The upper terrace, offering a beautiful view over the medina and its surroundings. One of the distinctive features of a Riad’s architecture is its limited openings to the outside, designed to preserve privacy and protect the home from heat and noise. It’s something we’re passionate about, and it means a lot to us that you noticed. Riads in Morocco were traditionally the homes of wealthy merchants and traders. They are known for their unique architecture, which, in keeping with the private nature of society at the time, featured very few openings to the outside, helping to protect the house from heat and preserve the privacy of its residents. Riads are typically built around an interior courtyard filled with greenery, and often include a fountain or water basin. The ground floor usually contains the shared living spaces (kitchen, salons, dining rooms, patios, etc.), while the first floor houses the bedrooms, offering more privacy. The third floor often features a rooftop terrace with a beautiful view of the surrounding landscapes. The current owner, having fallen in love with the Riad during many visits to Morocco, decided to acquire it, make it his home, and share its beauty with others by turning it into a guesthouse. As an architect with a true artist’s eye, he used his talent to transform the Riad into a little gem that leaves no one indifferent.
