Read more– opens a dialog boxEach review score is between 1 and 10. To get the overall score you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of them. We use a weighted review system, which means the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. Guests can also give separate “subscores” in crucial areas like location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value, and free Wifi. Note that guests submit their subscores and overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an accommodation that you booked through our platform if you stayed there, or if you got to the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialize in detecting fake reviews submitted to our platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team so that our fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we'd publish every review we get, positive and negative. However, we won’t display any reviews that include or refer to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out. We may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old, or if the accommodation has a change of ownership.
An accommodation can reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (e.g. language, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). You can sort and/or filter them by time of year, review score, and more.
Sometimes we show external review scores from other well-known travel websites, but make it clear when we do this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly, without limiting expression or strong opinions. They're also applicable regardless of the comment's tone.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, or the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.

By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options might be available (by type of traveler, by score, etc...).

United KingdomThe room service and breakfast could be hit and miss. E.g for the first two days we didn’t get any bottles of drinking water. On the third day we found a bottle of water when we returned to our room. When we mentioned this to the night manager he said we could have the extra bottles whenever we wanted, no apology. On the plus side he would happily exchange our room temp water for refrigerated or even an icy bottle. He was otherwise really nice too. We also only had two of everything instead of for three people, so two towels, one each of shampoo and body wash. Once the maids realised we started getting three towels but toiletries were hit and miss - some days they weren’t replaced or topped up at all. We asked for the bedsheets to be changed towards the end as we had been staying for nearly a week and were there for 8 days in total but the sheet wasn’t changed. We had to ask a maid when we got back. She changed it but didn’t seem too happy. Also the floors are marble and a hazard when wet. My husband slipped a number of times on wet patches, once when the cleaner was cleaning. Why not wait to clean public areas such as the route to the breakfast area until all guests have finished? Which reminds me - breakfast is served on the rooftop which is accessible by some very steep steps. I wish I had measured the depth of these steps - they were easily over 40cm each, perhaps steeper. The communal areas on the ground floor were a bit shabby chic, no a/c in the internal areas just a pedestal fan. I think I saw one tv in the entire riad. I realise you stay at riads for the experience but I was still surprised at the lack of tvs in the rooms. Its not as if the Riad Karmela is low budget accommodation. Also no tea or coffee in the room Overall we enjoyed staying, the main issue was the location. Jamaa el F’naa is about 12-15 minutes walk through the medina so not far and there are a number of routes to get there.
The room size was perfect with ample space for three of us and our luggage. Wardrobe space was fair but instead of a small stand a proper dressing table would have been better. The room is very traditional but kept clean. The a/c was perfect not too cold and kept us from remembering it was high 30’s in Marrakech while we were there! Thank you so much to the staff for meeting our request for a bathroom with a douche, we were so pleased and relieved as initially we were informed bathrooms didn’t have a douche. Everything in the bathroom was clean but it could do with refreshing. The grout on the tiles behind the sink was coming away and the taps were a bit creaky. The thing we really missed was not having a mini fridge in the room. My daughter stayed at a riad last year with a fridge in the room so I know that riads do have them in the room. For the the beds were perfect and I slept very well. But my daughter found hers too hard. Breakfast was alright, what we liked was that there was always freshly squeezed orange juice, mint tea and tiny desserts that were delicious. The toiletries are nice, I loved both the shampoo and body wash, they had a lovely scent and my hair felt clean but in a great state. Normally even the branded stuff we find in hotels in other countries are lacking. The staff were friendly too. Asking the hotel to organise taxis to and from the airport made that so much easier than if we had try to get there ourselves.

United KingdomNo real complaints but maybe a bit more shade on the roof terrace. To serve wine/ beer in the restaurant would have been nice.
A real oasis of calm in Marrakesh. Stepping from the bustle of the street into the road was a welcome relief. It was very hot during our stay but the Riad was cool. Wonderful kind and helpful staff.

We adored everything about the riad! The staff provided first class customer service. The riad is comfortable, lots of seating areas and little pools to dip in. Food was very good. I would go back and stay again anytime and will highly recommend it to family and friends.

United StatesThe perfect place to stay in Marrakesh. A tranquil paradise in the middle of the chaos of the Medina. Highly recommend. Loved all of the detail of the architecture, the decor, the furnishings. The location is ideal. And the staff, wow, the Karmela staff are the nicest, kindest, most accommodating human beings. And the A/c was great even in the summer heat. Oh my gosh, the food served at the riad was also the best we had in Marrakesh. A+++

CanadaOur stay at Riad Karmela was, without a doubt, a five-star experience, primarily due to the incredible team and the breathtaking beauty of this historic riad. From the moment we stepped inside, we were enveloped in genuine Moroccan hospitality that made our trip truly unforgettable. The heart and soul of Riad Karmela are its staff. I must begin by highlighting Mohammed; what a truly great person he is. His smile was constant and genuinely warm, and he consistently went above and beyond to ensure our comfort and offer assistance with such a pleasant demeanor. He is a real gem. Following closely in their exceptional service were Amin and Ayoub, who were always ready with helpful advice, a friendly chat, or assistance with any request – nothing was too much trouble. The warmth extended throughout the riad. Lobnah and Nora, along with all the other wonderful ladies at the breakfast buffet, started each day with a delightful spread and even more delightful smiles and attentive service. The front desk staff were a bastion of helpfulness, with a special mention to Saeed, who was fantastic in organizing excursions and providing local insights. And one cannot forget the meticulous care taken by the ladies cleaning the rooms. Every day, we returned to a perfectly clean, fresh, and beautifully presented room – a testament to their hard work and attention to detail. Beyond the exceptional service, Riad Karmela itself is a stunning example of historic Moroccan architecture. The intricate tilework, peaceful courtyards with their gentle fountains, and beautifully decorated common areas transport you to another era. Every corner reveals a new detail to admire, creating an atmosphere of tranquility and authentic charm amidst the vibrant energy of the Medina. If you are looking for an authentic Marrakech experience with unparalleled service and a truly beautiful historic setting, look no further than Riad Karmela.

CanadaOur only comment would be for the mattresses to be firmer.
Fabulous Riad! It is actually 3 properties with so many beautiful spaces to relax, 3 rooftop plunge pools, 1 larger indoor pool with chaise lounge chairs scattered over the many terrace levels. Entire staff were so friendly making us feel very welcome. Mohammed’s energy was amazing and always asking what we might need. From our arrival where we were met by a guide/wagon for our luggage to arranging our tuk-tuk on the way out, everything was taken care of. The food we had during our stay was so good with many choices at breakfast. We opted to take book 2 dinners at the riad and both meals were delicious, service outstanding & live music on weekends was just icing on the top! Rooms were beautiful with large bathrooms. Absolutely recommend staying here!

United KingdomThe only negative point was the airport transfer on day 1. I think we got through the airport far quicker than is normal so our driver appeared to be late and then didn't have a placard with the Riad Karmela name. Our phones weren't working to call the Riad so we asked a very helpful Club Med agent to help and he connected us with our driver. This did all take almost an hour so ensure you have a working sim on landing as once out of the airport, they don't let you back in for the Wi-Fi.
The staff went above and beyond - so attentive. Fabulous location for wandering around The Medina itself and transfers for day trips. All food very good quality. Such a calm and beautiful oasis away from the hustle and bustle of the streets. Relaxing on the sun terrace - so peaceful.

United KingdomOur room overlooked the central patio which meant on evenings when the guitarist was playing it was very loud at times! Everything finished promptly at 10pm though so it didn't go on late.
Ideally located in the centre of the medina, this was our third year staying in one of the Karmela riads. The room was spacious, the breakfasts were fine, and the staff as always were excellent.
