How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.

Verified reviewBeautiful and clean property . Although we didn’t use the pool , it looks beautiful and clean . Our room was very nice , the mattress was a bit firm but still managed to sleep really well on it , the AC was good but could have benefited from a stronger one on the very hot days . The staff were absolutely amazing , very kind and helpful. Beautifully welcomed with nice tea and Moroccan delicatessen. Asma kindly explained to us all the places to visit and how to stay safe . We only took the breakfast one throughout the week , but it was very generous and delicious .
Sometimes it felt like a long time to wait for the door to be opened to enter the Riad , mainly at night . It would have been good to have a menu in the room about drinks we could order / access . I had taken the option of private jacuzzi but with hindsight I probably should have not as the shared jacuzzi was always available and of better quality ( see picture ) and the ´private terrace n is not really a private terrace , it is an individual terrace but not with much privacy .

Verified reviewI had a very disappointing experience staying at this riad. The location was difficult to navigate, with confusing and narrow streets that made it easy to get lost. The hotel itself was much smaller than expected, with cramped rooms and an air conditioning system that didn’t work properly. The surrounding area felt unsafe, and I wouldn’t recommend anyone to stay there. Additionally, there was no proper reception, and the staff spoke very limited English, which made communication challenging. I booked it for 3 night stay (non refundable) and decided to leave that hotel, after one night stay, the hotel manager denied to pay rest nights and started screaming via phone. Think twice before you risk to pay non refundable option. On top of that, the breakfast was very poor — I’m still baffled as to how this hotel received such a high rating. Overall, it was not worth the stay!!!

You have booked for a 3-nights stay at the riad and its was your own choice the non-refundable once you are in the Riad my collegue called me to talk to you and you said that you have obstacles and you will be forced to leave and you asked for a refund when we said no you started negotiating with us to refund one night, we did not agree because you know very well that for non-refundable reservations, you do not have the right to cancel, change the date, or leave early. After that you said OK you spent a night in the Riad in the morning you had your breakfast and left. To be surprised after you sent to booking to say that you had problems you hadn't any problem that not true every thing was correct the only thing that we didn't accept to refund you. You didn't complain about any thing in the Riad, normaly if someone has problems should complain that in the same place to find a solution of it. You Said Small Riad the area of the Riad is 400m2 you booked a riad not a hotel, we are in the royal palace zone I think you can imagine the security around. the service of the reception is from 9:00am to 6:00pm you arrived after that and i talked to you i didn't scream and i appologies too. we serve for breakfast orange jus, fruits, cereal, yogurt, vegetables omlette or with cheese or plain, butter, honey, jam, 2 types of cheese, baguettes and Moroccan bread, Moroccan crepes, eggs, tea, chocolate milk, english tea, coffee........i don't think that you can find all that in the Riads. "Hi, I am still waiting for money to be refunded. Please refund the amount, otherwise I will do it through Booking.com." this is your last message to us via booking was sent in the 27th May when we didn't pay the money back you wrote you comment I didn't negotiate with you like you did before and ask you to DELETE the review but I preferred to answer you like thatthe people can also read our response and I think that the other real comments show the quality of our Riad. Unfortunately our room had a bad odor. The manager said it was from nearby construction worked. They worked hard to mitigate the smell, but it put a damper on our stay.

Verified reviewWe booked Riad Shanima & Spa expecting a 4-star experience, but it fell far short of expectations. - Staff were polite and helpful when available. - Rooms were kept clean. - WiFi was fast when it worked (but very spotty in areas, including our room).
❌ Breakfast was insufficient– Tiny portions left us hungry every morning. ❌ Missing basic amenities– No fridge, kettle, or daily complimentary water/coffee in the room. Having to go downstairs for hot water was inconvenient. ❌ Charged for coffee at checkout – We were shocked to find out the coffee we had in the common area wasn’t free (only tea was complimentary, which we learned at checkout). ❌ Bathroom lacked privacy – The window had no proper covering. ❌ Spa services overpriced – The hammam/spa prices are exorbitantly high that we did not bother to try. ❌ Main door locked at night – Having to knock for entry was inconvenient for both guests and staff. ❌ Dinner required advance booking by breakfast time– Ordering meals a so early in advance was impractical that we could not make it happen. ❌ Location felt unsafe at night – The surrounding area didn’t inspire confidence after dark. PS: The 5-star reviews must be from friends of the owner. Final Verdict: This riad is not worth the price or 4-star rating. Between the lack of basic comforts, hidden charges, and poor service, it felt more like a budget hostel. We would not recommend staying here.
FAKE REVIEWS I am truly very surprised by your comments. You made NO comments during your stay. We would have been happy to satisfy you as much as possible, but you certainly didn't want to!! This is truly disappointing for our staff, who do their utmost to make your stay as pleasant as possible. YOU ARE REALLY THE FIRST AND ONLY GUEST TO DEMOLISH OUR STAFF AND THE RIAD IN THIS WAY!!!! I find this truly suspicious!!!!! - You left the table hungry++ with a full breakfast + eggs of your choice - fruit - bread - cheese - cake - pancakes or crepes - fruit juice - unlimited coffee and tea... Just a quick note for our staff, who would have been happy to satisfy your hunger... - An additional lie: the espresso coffees were offered to you!! Why such relentlessness? - The Spa and Hammam services are highly appreciated and used by the majority of our guests. You haven't used them, so you can't judge their quality. The prices are certainly higher than those in your home country!!!! But not with other services and hygiene standards. - It is NORMAL for the front door to be closed (day and night), as a security measure for our guests. Perhaps you wanted to discreetly introduce outside friends into our Riad??? This is not possible!!!! Our caretakers are available 24/24 to ensure the comfort and safety of our guests. What's more, you don't have to KNOCK on the door. There are two more discreet doorbells!!! The night guards are there to wait for you and let you in. THIS IS A SECURITY FOR ALL OUR GUESTS! - Our cooks prepare dinners with fresh produce every day for the best quality dishes. Whenever possible, some dishes on our menu are prepared and served at the last minute. A simple request from you would have saved you another lie. - As you may have noticed, we are located in the Royal Zone of the Pasha's Palace. Our very green street is monitored by a 24/24 security guard!!! Where can you find better? I don't understand your relentlessness. Why say our neighborhood isn't safe? You should visit unsafe neighborhoods! - Your comment on the reviews truly demonstrates your obvious bad faith and your intention to harm. We have 641 reviews, which give us a rating of 9.4/10. These are sincere opinions from people who appreciate us and whom we also appreciate. I suspect, based on your comments, that another riad paid you to publish such a review!!!!!! - I suggest that you, as you suggest, travel in the future to budget "youth" hostels. In any case, you are "Persona non Grata" at the Riad Shanima & Spa.

Verified reviewGreat breakfast. Location very good for seeing old Marrakech, just a short walk to the souks and other sights. We did almost all of our visit on foot, just a short ride in a Tuk Tuk to see what it was like. Bear in mind that it is necessary to walk down narrow alleyways to get to the front door, we did this and felt safe, in fact the walk to the doorway added to our enjoyment of the riad. The staff were very friendly and 100% helpful throughout.

Verified reviewAn absolute gem of a place. Staff were amazing and so friendly and helpful. Felt abit wary when we first got there as it was nearly midnight but one of the trolley boys assisted and got us to the Riad safely at a small cost. Living in the centre of the old town and medina was perfect. I loved it and the staff in the Riad could not have been better in particular Adil who appeared to be the happiest person in Morocco 🇲🇦 Place was so clean, quiet and peaceful and food was great. Pool was a bonus although small was great to have a soak in and was nice and warm. Rooftop terrace was amazing and so peaceful despite being in the centre of it all. Would definitely recommend to family and friends.

Verified reviewMyself and my friend had the the most wonderful stay in the riad shanima. It was spotless clean. Every member of staff were welcoming and friendly. This oasis of calm and tranquillity. The roof terrace was quiet, relaxing after a busy day. We had dinner on one evening. And it was delicious. We also took advantage of the hammam (which was amazing) and relaxing massage (which was also amazing). Thank you to the whole team for our wonderful stay.

Verified reviewThis Riad is situated in the old Medina reached via narrow medieval passages accessible only on foot. Its facilities are excellent as are the staff, all of whom were attentive and helpful. We booked a taxi from the airport through the venue and the driver phoned ahead, alerted them of our arrival where we were met by a staff member who took our luggage for us and led us through the passageways to our destination. The riad has been largely rebuilt and thoroughly modernised taking care to maintain the style of architecture with modern facilities. 8 bedrooms and three suites comprise the accommodation with courtyard and dining areas as well as a spa, hammam and steam room. First class!

Verified reviewThe place was great. Although the location seemed in a position that some may not find easy to get to (you have to walk to the door, there is no road for taxis) we were happy with it. It is very central and we found it to be very quiet too.
At multiple times when we rang the doorbell, we had to wait outside for several minutes, sometimes ringing the bell over and over. This was okay as my husband and I were together. However, as someone who often travels solo, I would not want to experience this again as it was uncomfortable waiting outside in a dark alleyway with no key.

Verified reviewThe staff were extremely accommodating and lovely! The rooms were spotless and the beds were very comfy. Very central location.
I didn’t love how you had to ring the main door to be let in to the hotel especially late at night. I understand this is for security purposes however it is not ideal having to wait in the narrow alleyway at night. I understand this is for security purposes but a swipe card or a code for the door or something would be preferable.
