How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.

Verified reviewBased on our experience in New Zealand and the US, it is clear that Booking.com does not offer many of the accommodation options that we saw locally. We chose this facility based on its listing on Booking.com, where it was positively rated and listed as a four-star property. The size of the rooms, proximity to the beach and private parking are all positive features. The rooms are modern, air-conditioned and comfortable. There are also many restaurants nearby where you can enjoy a good dinner every evening. While the beach does not belong to the hotel, it has a contract with a beach club where you can borrow sun loungers (2x) and parasols (1x) free of charge during your stay.
Despite the well-maintained facilities near the beach, a few things significantly damaged our impression of this establishment. Firstly, the staff, especially the white French staff, were unsatisfactory and reserved. When we arrived, we had an issue with parking. Instead of trying to resolve it, the staff merely confronted us. Whenever we passed by the reception desk, the staff consistently ignored us (staring intently at their notebooks with no attempt to make contact with customers). The height of rudeness or lack of coordination among the staff was evident on the day of our departure when, despite having checked out by 11:00, a cleaner came to our room while we were at breakfast and began preparing it for the next guests. We have never experienced anything like this before, especially considering the price range of this accommodation. The breakfast was tasty but very simple, and the same every day, which is disappointing given the high price of this accommodation. At the same time, one member of staff at breakfast clearly did not care about customer service. The other (manager), however, tried very hard and was friendly. One negative aspect for others could be the surprising presence of Russian customers, who were rather noisy. And there were lots of mosquitoes, even near the sea, and they were particularly bad at night!

Verified reviewDisappointing and unprofessional – not worth the price Our stay at La Playa was a major disappointment. We booked a room with a sea view, but were given one facing a building and the garden instead. The hotel blamed Booking.com and offered no solution. Breakfast was poor – apart from eggs and bacon, there were no hot options, no vegetables, and just one type of suspicious-looking ham and cheese. Coffee was served from a thermos because the machine was broken. To make matters worse, we found dirty towels with hair on them – completely unacceptable for a hotel in this price range. At checkout, the receptionist asked how our stay was. I told her honestly that I was disappointed, and she just turned around without a word and started working on her computer. No apology, no concern – just complete indifference. This hotel does not meet basic quality standards and is definitely not worth the high price. Would not recommend.

I told her to offer you to change to another room closer to the beach, which you declined. Regarding the breakfast, you are right, they had a problem one morning with the coffee machine, a technician came and fixed it. During this morning, the restaurant manager offered and served coffee from the bar directly. Some of our guests preferred the filtered coffee that’s why you saw some thermos. We really apologize for this disagreement. For any problem during your stay, I’m very sad because it has been a pleasure to talk with you, I’m available anytime in case of problem. Verified reviewThe room was exceptionally comfortable with good facilities; the build in mini kitchen was exceptional. The beach area was well staffed with helpful people who were very pleasant and responsive to meeting guest needs for refreshments, adjustments to the umbrellas and other assistance.
The reception experience was transactional and the staff seemed a focused on what you couldn't do--it just didn't feel that welcoming. It seemed rather silly to have a coupon you had to use daily to get your ration of 2 beach towels. We used the pool area several times and while it was quite functional it was rather uninspired and not that enjoyable.

Verified reviewSpa was very pleasant. The staff there were wonderful. Ocean beautiful. Beach waiters were very fast, friendly and efficient. Bar tenders fun. Breakfast staff were helpful. Hotel great location. Cleaning ladies were very amenable to our schedule and very thorough in cleaning. Close to the square with many restaurants. Definitely try the sushi big tray at the hotel beach. The front desk was so helpful in booking the spa and an island boat ride. Suggested Captain Jo's boat rental and it was one of the best we ever have. Captain Andrew was amazing and tailed the boat trip to everything we asked!
Breakfast could have more selection. One towel a day was annoying. Price was a little high for the week but free breakfast and room cleaning made it tenable.

Verified reviewThe location on the beach and less than a block to multiple great restaurants was the primary reason for selecting La Playa Orient Bay.
The included breakfast was mediocre, the coffee/tea cups were worthless as they transmitted the heat quickly and burned many guests fingers.

Too many rules. They wouldn't let us have 2 room cards. Said "one per room". Booking.com advertised ocean view room. I didn't have one. The resort said they couldn't change it because I booked on booking.com or discount my rate. The picture of the room on Booking.com looked nothing like the view I actually had. I will never book on this website again. The hotel told me to book direct next time. The beach chairs were reserved and I was told I would have to pay 30 dollars for certain ones. Some of the first row chairs were also "reserved" Not sure how you reserve a chair. The towels were thin and I was told I could only have 2 per room. The beach towel card for towel rule (also one beach towel only) was ridiculous. The beach staff people were very nice tho.

Verified reviewBeautiful location right on a fantastic beach. Room was lovely, breakfast very good and lunch at the beach bar exceptional.
There was no restaurant for evening meals and the bar shut early each evening so there was nowhere to sit or get a drink when returning from dinner even at 9 pm. The staff were a bit surly and not very helpful. Checkin is at 4pm and although our rooms were ready earlier and they said they would phone me when they were ready they didn’t bother. We also asked for a later checkout at 1pm and although the hotel was nowhere near full they wanted €150 for an extra hour!!

Our restaurant, as all the beach restaurants on Orient Bay, are closed in the evening as at night it can be too windy on the beach, making the dining experience not at the best. But our bar is open from 8am to 8pm. The Square of the Village located at 2 minutes walking distance from the hotel offers a large range of restaurants with different cuisine. There is also a pub and a bar where you can have a late drink and still 2min away from the hotel (around midnight) Regarding the time of the check in, I apologize myself having a hotel full as we are in peak season. Our team is doing its best to get your room ready as soon as possible when you arrive earlier than check in time.
