How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
Guidelines and standards for Reviews
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

Verified reviewThis was our second time staying at Hotel Menabe throughout our trip. The front desk staff welcomed us back warmly and, after a brief wait, showed us to our room. We loved having a massive balcony. An added bonus was that there was fantastic water pressure in the shower AND warm water.

Verified reviewThe location is convenient to the beach but my first preference is the professionalism of the staff and owner; friendly and efficient. As a solo traveler, I felt safe and any questions or requests were answered. Good sized room with a nice (?) view of the street and markets. They even offer room service. Only thing that would have been good to know is the restaurant / kitchen closes on Monday afternoon to give employees some rest. I didn't plan my dinner well that day :-)
I can't think of anything I didn't like. For the cost, it met and exceeded my expectations in some regards; no frills but good food and nice staff.

Verified reviewThe hotel is excellent for the price-quality ratio! Really cheap with a super central location in the village. The rooms are huge, clean, with hot showers, electricity – everything you could wish for in Madagascar. The staff is really lovely, and they even welcome you with a Baobab juice (which honestly tastes better than the one sold at the Avenue of the Baobabs!). They also offer breakfast in the morning, which unfortunately we missed as we had to leave early – but the smell of fresh baked goods was amazing. No mosquitoes, mosquito nets, or coils anywhere in the hotel!! WAS PERFECT! I definitely recommend it.
I rated it 8/10 for two reasons (otherwise was even a 9): • The only room left on Booking when I reserved was a double room with a terrace, but there was no terrace, just a window. • Another downside was that all the rooms for the driver were fully booked, and our driver couldn’t stay overnight. I know this isn’t really their responsibility, but in all the other hotels we stayed at, there was at least a separate room or space for the driver. It would be nice if they could solve this, especially since there aren’t many hotels in the area considering the amount of tourism. In the end, we kindly offered our driver a room at another hotel.

Verified reviewI like how we were met. We were treated with baobab juice. It was really nice. First time we were impressed with the size of the room.
- how long food was served - we stayed for 4 days and our room was not cleaned. I asked to clean it and they told me they didn't provide this service - second time we came we got a smelly room with only one towel. I asked the second one and it was old and terrible.

Verified reviewThe room was nice with a big bed. Also the bathroom had a great size and the shower had cold water. The staff are welcoming and helped us when we got there. It is walking distance from the area with the restaurants. We also had a terrace but didn’t use it.
They took 50 minutes to bring us breakfast. Maybe we didn’t order beforehand, but it was just bread and an omelette. At least we were not in a hurry. Also the breakfast area was a bit tacky.

It was a bit noisy at night but it's right in the centre of town so should be expected.

Verified reviewso bad 1. Never clean the room during the three days staying 2. bad wifi, not possible to connect during the evening and early morning 3. no hot shower 4. there's one female staff very rude and lied to make people pay more money 5. never listen to the staff's suggestion on transportation, as they joinly lie to the tourists and tried to playing tricks for profit which is higher than the marker price 30-40% 6.the food and drinks are selling in the hotel is 6-10 times higher than market fair price so for any international tourist, definitely avoid this place as there are so many options nearby with much better services when you arrive at the town
