How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
Guidelines and standards for Reviews
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

Verified reviewOwner of the hotel is so passionate and helpful. I enjoyed the stay here very much. Breakfast at the rooftop is amazing. Free bicycle, trip arrangements and tourists tipps. Would book this hotel again and again :)
Power shortages, but the hotel offers battery lamps and power banks for free :)

Verified reviewHost (sorry I forgot her name) is amazing, helpful, knowledgeable, kind, attentive. Excellent breakfast, great location -- 2 min walk to boat dock, food, market, etc. Electricity is rare (as of Feb 25) and most places are still recovering from the floods in late 24, and still repairing their generators so plan accordingly. Overall not an issue as you can recharge at night. Host can arrange anything you need and for decent prices -- boat tours, taxis, rentals, etc.

Verified reviewThe owner is an amazing woman - she tried to help as she could and she did it - she did everything to make the stay as comfortable as it possible! The breakfast was huge and tasty! Finally, I got fried eggs and fruits at the breakfast not rice or cold noddles as before! The shower was hot hot as I like!!! The room is comfortable and clean! The bicycles at the hostel are free to use at any time! The owner helped to organise a boat tour, buses to Mandalay, money change and with other questions as well! She gave me a charger and power bank when l needed them!!!

Verified reviewwonderful hostess. she helped me with everything: book an excursion, buy a bus ticket, order a taxi. clean room, clean bed linen. 2 bottles of water. shampoo, shower gel in the bathroom. very large and delicious breakfasts.
It is inconvenient that there is no lamp near the bed, only overhead light.

Verified reviewThe hotel is managed by a very diligent lady. She does her work well and gives you excellent advices. You can book your activities in the city with her. I recommend you that if you're going to inle lake as a tourist you could bring some clothes or canned food to give to the people. The situation got bad since the flooding on September, so every help will be appreciated.

Verified reviewThis is a 25 rooms family hotel, managed by Nway Tun. As soon as you meet her in the reception you get the feeling that this is your new home and almost your new family. Nway and her staff will be there for you with a big smile 24/7. She is great in assisting with planning your local trips based of knowledge only local people have and connecting you with the best providers. She is there to understand what you need before you even say it. The hotel was renovated recently, after the September floods, rooms are comfortable and the breakfast served on the roof is very generous. Location is nearby the big pagoda the river and the location of all the festivals. It is very difficult to translate atmosphere to words so I will just say that if you want to have a unique experience this hotel is highly recommended.

Verified reviewIt was a very unusual situation where we got stuck in flood. The owner Nway Nway went above and beyond to make sure that my 9 month old kid and I were safe and cared for. I’ll never forget her hospitality and kindness. The ground floor of the hotel is now damaged and I really wish and pray Nway Nway overcomes the situation and tourists come and boom the economy at Inle Lake.
Everything perfect.

Verified reviewThe staff are absolutely wonderfull. Helpful and always with a smile. The room was huge and spacious and the bed comfortable. On my last day the lovely owner made me a hamburger before my flight back to Yangon. Breakfast was perfect and abundance and gets you through the whole day. Also it is near the jetties for the Inle lake starting point on the boats. Good shops around and restaurants. Markets close by. You must try the winery!!!! Well worth the visit. Thank you to everyone at the Sandalwood Hotel….

Verified reviewWow, what a great hotel! Where do I begin? - The room - spacious and clean (they clean it every day + folding your cloths...), big and bright bathroom, bottles of water renewed every day, a kettle, safe box and tvt - The unbelievable generous breakfast - great selection - you will not be able to finish it. - The location - less then one minuet from the river, where the boat takes you to Inle lake. Also 3 minuets walk to the night market - Huge beautiful public balcony with a great evening breeze - The family that runs the hotel - unbelievable people - they will take care of you in such a gentle way. They found out I love coffee - so every day they would make me a pot of a filtered coffee and bring it to my room, long after breakfast. - Reservation - they can book a boat trip to the lake, a car+ driver to take you around, and bus tickets to Bagan, Mandalay, etc. - Atmosphere - relaxed, welcoming, Wonderful. Thank you Nway Nway and her family - you are Wonderful :)
