How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
Guidelines and standards for Reviews
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

Verified reviewBig room (2 single bed). Good WiFi. Staff very, very helpful, and the menu has delicious plates. Near the beach.
There’s no electricity all the day, which means no AC 24 hours. There are some holes in the room that facilitate mosquitos. The bathroom floor was wet the whole time.
Dear Wesley. Thanks a lot for your nice review and for the praise about our restaurant and our staff. Sorry for the wet floor in the bathroom. We will work on that. But we are much more sorry for you about the fact that you obvisously had no 220 AC power during your whole stay... 😩. If you would have told us, we would have shown you how to switch it on ... . Thank you very much again, Ko Soe, Owner of Soe Ko Ko

Verified reviewHotel has a very high conversion rate. My bill was in euro and they didn’t allow me to pay 42k with local currency as it was specified in booking.com (that I found via google map). Instead with the conversion they charged from me 70k when I checked after. The next day I went to the manager and nicely asked him if they had made a mistake and could he pls to check it again. The manager (not local and didn’t seem sober) started to scream at me, told me some racist things and started to threaten me with huge problems in Myanmar. Then he came at me with a beer bottle… I was totally confused since the situation just evolved from a polite question to check the price again since I overpaid almost twice. It was already dark and after this I didn’t feel safe to stay so I hurried up to the tourist police to file a complaint. After that I had conversations with thw hotel owner by phone, he made apologies and also confirmed that the manager drinks a bit, but still no one seemed eager to refund what I had overpaid. He offered me to go back and swore that it will be safe. But of course I wouldn’t feel safe to stay overnight in that place. So I told the police that I will find some other place. They drove me to the hotel to pick up my luggage. The manager showed the police that it was only water in the beer bottle, that there is just water. When I got into the room I see that they had finally cleaned the toilet since it was leaking and made up a bit room)) funny that’s it happened only after I went to the police.
Being uninformed and only carrying a credit card like this reviewer is extremely frustrating for travelers in Myanmar as they constantly feel cheated: ATMs, if filled, only spit out MMK at the official exchange rate of e.g. 1 EUR ~ 2300 MMK. Nobody uses this exchange rate in Myanmar. Everyone uses the black market exchange rate that you can get in official money changer shops (1 EUR ~ 3800 MMK). Therefore, this reviewer, as a greenhorn who had just arrived in Myanmar, felt cheated when he checked in and wanted to pay in cash with MMK and not in EUR for his official bill of 21EUR per night: instead of 21*2300 ~ 48000 MMK/night, he suddenly had to pay more (69000 MMK at an exchange rate of only 1 EUR = 3300 MMK, not 3800 MMK). Probably this didn't get into his head even after 10 minutes of discussion and explanations from our German manager and confirmation from another guest that everything is correct and all right and that he got a discount of around 15%! Instead, he showed up again the other day in the evening and showed the German manager that he found a room with us on Google Maps for 42,000 MMK (not the room he had booked, which our Burmese general manager - not the owner, the reviewer newer talked to me - later tried in vain to tell him on the phone). The reviewer accused our German manager of fraud several times and asked him to pay back what he said was too much, otherwise he would go to the police. When our German manager got a little louder and said that he could do that safely and should be careful that he could get into trouble with such behavior in Myanmar, he accused our German manager of being on drugs or completely drunken. Disappointed, shaking his head and with no ill intentions, our German manager stood up with a beer bottle in his hand to fill it up with water. Unfortunately, the water container was in the reviewer's direction, which caused him to run away... The end of the story: Our reviewer was escorted by the police in civilian clothes to his new accommodation, where he was offered the same exchange rate as ours. The following day everyone, the police, us and also the owner of the refugee accommodation, just shook their heads at a pushy, uncomprehending, incorrigible tourist who was resistant to advices and explanations ... Welcome to Myanmar and be prepared also for questions like 'where are you from', 'where do you live' and 'how old are you'. Here this is not rasistic or offending, just normal. Verified reviewVery good value , great laid back atmosphere. The on-site manager and staff go above and beyond to make you feel welcome . it’s only a short walk to the beach and shops . I hired a scooter from the guest house for 2 days . It’s the best option to explore the coastline and 30 minutes inland is the highly recommended Elephant sanctuary . From my experience some peoples negative feedback seemed overly exaggerated.
There is road noise by day but very peaceful by mid evening.
Thank you so much for your review, Kevin, and your nice words about our manager and our staff. We always try to do our best to satisfy our guests whishes. All the best to you from me, Ko Soe, Owner of Soe Ko Ko

Verified reviewGreat value - I paid around $9 USD for a private cabana- unbelievably cheap for what you get! Staff is very attentive and kind. I was only one of 3 people there, so I had their undivided attention. I even went out on a scooter adventure with 2 of the lads from staff- really friendly guys! I had tons of fun staying here. If you're down with a low-key cabana vibe you're going to love it.
Toilet in my room didn't work properly- not a huge issue but it could have been better.

Verified reviewVery bad . Not satisfied at all
Amenities
Dear Bera. We are really sorry that you was not satisfied at all with your stay at Soe Ko Ko. We only have three questions to you, because we don't understand your 'very bad' rating for us. 1st: Why did you not like your complimentary late check out at very busy Christmas time, instead of beeing very thankful? 2nd: Breakfast was included in the room rate. But you had breakfast AFTER our official breakfast time and you made special orders that were not on our breakfast menu. We did not charge for that. You was not satisfied with that? 3rd: Why did you take all your four meals (lunch, dinner, breakfast, lunch) in our restaurant, instead of running away? For next time we recommend for you a stay at one of the beach front resorts, where you have to pay the double/tripple price for everything. We are already really exited to read your rating ... With best regards from Ngwe Saung, U Soe Aye, Owner of Soe Ko Ko
