How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
Guidelines and standards for Reviews
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

Cockroaches- very scary! No tea making facilities, no drinking water, shower in poor state, thick dust on the ceiling fan- do not turn on if you don’t want astma attack, confusing layout of stairs and corridors, poor air conditioning.

Verified reviewNice location although up hill. It was a nice room, with a comfy bed and the owner was very polite and helpful.
To begin with, I asked for an earlier check in and although I should not complain for not getting that, the actual check in started at 15.00 and when we got there around 15.20, the room was not ready even then, so we waited until 15.50. The apartment had many issues. The bathroom had no ventilation or window and also a glass door that was stuck all the time and felt very uncomfortable when with a partner. The was no shampoo or shower gel, only an almost finished product that felt like a dish soap. There was also an issue with the air-condition, as the remote control malfunctioned all the time and couldn't change the temperature easily. Finally, we had a power outage due to a problematic fuse, although the owner helped us fix it quickly.

Verified reviewGreat size and Location. Air conditioning in Bedrooms and living area that were great during 40 degree days. Great clothes washing facilities and access to rooftop drying area which had great outdoor table that could be used.
Could add some helpful instructions for some facilities provided eg TV, stove top, however Luke was quick to answer questions if needed.

Verified reviewSeveral amenities that were clearly shown in the booking photos and listed as included—such as the balcony, the washing machine, the smoking area, and the dartboard—were completely missing. These features were a key reason for choosing your accommodation, and it is unacceptable that they were not provided. In addition, we were shocked to find mold in both the bathroom and inside the wardrobe, which raises serious hygiene and health concerns. Additionally, both the sun terrace and the garden furniture that were shown and listed in the booking were also missing, which further added to our disappointment.

Verified reviewFrom the moment we arrived, everything exceeded our expectations. The apartment was spotless, comfortable, and well-equipped with everything we needed. The location was ideal—close to everything yet quiet and peaceful at night. We especially appreciated the thoughtful touches and attention to detail. Highly recommend and would definitely stay here again!

Verified reviewThe location was exceptional. Self check in was practical. We could easily store the baggage after the check out.
The bed is rather small for 2 people. There were no sockets in the bathroom. The sound isolation is not so great. When other guests come in or come out, you hear everything since the room is located just by the main door. The property is located just opposite the restaurant whose employees are also quite loud.

Verified reviewLocation is excellent in the beautiful city of Birgu, it was within 5 mins walk of the ferry to Valletta and close to shops and restaurants. It is in a beautiful street, the 2 bedroom townhouse is spacious and beautiful, clean and beautifully decorated. Everything you need is there. Luke is extremely helpful. We will definitely be back. Verified reviewThe apartment was in the centre of the old city of Birgu, close to the main square, which had excellent cafes and restaurants. The area was lovely, very quaint and close to the marina and ferry to Valetta. The studio apartment had everything we needed, but we were disappointed we did not have access to the roof terrace. This was only accessible with the 2 bed apartment. Luke, the owner, was available and very helpful throughout our stay. We were close to the bus stops, so we took advantage of the local buses. A weeks pass cost 25 euro, we travelled all over the island during our fortnight holiday.
All was good, we really enjoyed our stay.

Verified reviewIt was a brilliant location, with everything you needed nearby. The apartment was small but really well presented and ideal for what I needed. The host was exceptionally helpful, arranging transfers from and to the airport, and communicated throughout the booking process and during the stay. The restaurant opposite was fantastic, and most welcoming, and there were plenty of other eating and drinking establishments nearby. The ferry to Valetta was a few hundred yards away, as was the bus stop to other parts of the island. This was my first solo trip and Luke and his apartment helped make it a very enjoyable and memorable stay!
Nothing, everything was fabulous.

Verified reviewABSOLUTELY NOTHING............... Avoid room 2 at this establishment . Can't comment on the other rooms, but ROOM 2 IS DAMP. WE BOOKED A WEEK, SUFFERED 4 NIGHTS THEN ABANDONED IT. ALL OUR CLOTHES WERE CLAMMY AND DAMP. BOOKS AND PASSPORTS CURLING WITH DAMP. Nowhere to dry the (very small) towels so they were always wet. Tiny patio has puddles from upstairs aircon and leaking pipe from that bathroom. Room is small and temp is always cold as has no sunlight. Put the aircon on with heat to warm it up when we stayed June 1-4 with temp 28⁰ outside!! Really?? bed had just 1 x topsheet - we were freezing and requested a blanket (that smelt like it came from a dog's basket). Room has the cheapest accessories. throughout. Owner/manager telling us the room smell is because it's an old stone house - NO - it is because there is a damp problem with room 2, and this is reported on previous booking .com reviews too but the room is still advertised. Yes, it's a good location and Birgu is the best place to stay in the 3 cities but room 2 is not fit for habitation.

Thank you for your detailed feedback. We're truly sorry that your experience in Room 2 did not meet expectations, and we appreciate you bringing these issues to our attention. Please rest assured that we took your comments seriously and have made several improvements since your stay: A high-capacity dehumidifier has been added to ensure the room remains dry and comfortable, alongside the existing air conditioning. The mattress has been replaced with a brand new one to enhance comfort. We have resolved the drainage issues from both the air conditioning unit and bathroom plumbing to prevent puddling on the patio. Extra blankets and better drying facilities have been provided for guest convenience. While our property is housed in a historic stone building, we are committed to maintaining modern standards of comfort for all our guests. Most importantly, we want to note that you were fully refunded for your stay, as a gesture of goodwill and acknowledgment of your experience. Thank you again for your feedback—it has directly contributed to improving our service. We hope to have the chance to welcome you back in the future under better circumstances. Warm regards, Luke Camilleri

Verified reviewThe villa is in Birgu, if I remember it correctly, it is a finger of 3 Cities. Really nice street view, easy access to BUS, 50m to birgu centre 20 minutes to Valletta. The room is nice. The host provide 2 bottles of water which is a great help when I arrive late in the evening, when convinience store is open. The place is in general very quite. Room is big. The host is greatly helpful almost everything including the guideline and help me get receipt from taxi.
NO really dislikes. Birgu is not somewhere like a city centre, as a Ireland/Chinese residence would usually expect, there are not many store/supermarkets nearby. However, this is not actually a problem. You will not expect as many as convinience store as in Paris anywher in Malta. Also, after 9pm o'clock, it is a bit difficult to find some places to eat. Again, these are not problems, maybe just a bit cultural difference.

Verified reviewThe humidity was extremely high to the point that all our clothes and the towels in the room were constantly damp. We kept the air condition on the whole time on dry and also heat to try and lift the humidity but nothing could done. Opening windows, left the room full of moquitos and flies. Also the mattress was a bit too used, I squicked and you could hear the springs in it everytime you sat or got up.
