How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
Guidelines and standards for Reviews
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

Verified reviewTruly charming, beautifully appointed and very comfortable. A great location in Rabat, close to amenities, beautiful view of St. Paul’s dome from the breezy rooftop terrace. Appreciated the awning up there. A/C worked well, used the laundry and kitchen amenities (all great). Appreciated the tourist guidebook! Very accessible to Rabat sites and Mdina.
We loved the property, the stairs are necessary to move through the 4 levels and thus we wouldn’t recommend for anyone with mobility challenges.

We didn’t mind the stairs but if you aren’t fully mobile they might be a challenge

Verified reviewGreat location and in the middle of the city. Joe, the host, took his time to show us in depth where everything was and how it worked. We enjoyed our time spent at Amelie. The house was clean and comfortable and tastefully decorated.
Handrails on the walls would have been a plus. These are not just stairs. They are winding staircases from floor to floor. There is some plaster falling from the walls. The shower floor is marble and extremely slippery. Be careful! We had a problem in the kitchen with water seeping out from under the cabinets and overnight it flooded most of the kitchen floor. Joe told us not to use the kitchen sink as there might be some sort of blockage in the pipes. In that case, we were unable to wash the dishes and utensils that we had used, and we didn't feel good about that. Joe later compensated us a portion of our stay, which we believe was very kind and decent of him. All and all, we thoroughly enjoyed our stay.

Climbing stairs to each level of the place could be a problem for some people.

Verified reviewThe contact with Joe was really kind, he waited at the appartment when I arrived and showed me everything. The house is wonderful, had everything I needed for my stay and in the area around are some lovely restaurants. I always found a free parking space within a minute to walk. So I really enjoyed the time.

Verified reviewA good area - close to most things of interest. A quaint old property. The building was in a relatively quiet alley. The host helped us with our cases on arrival.
I did not expect the alley to be used a 'rat-run' by cars - some driving aggressively and at speed. It can be difficult to get in and out safely - particularly with bags and luggage. It is spread over several floors. I would prefer to see solid handrails - particularly down to the basement kitchen. Difficult to keep the water in the shower.

Verified reviewLocation was great, very cute decor with a lot of old world charm. Kitchenettes were nice to haves and a balcony to see the views. Host was very kind and accommodating
The bed was very uncomfortable, especially for side sleepers. Pillow was like laying on cloth it was so thin. House was very cold and it did warm up after turning on all the a/c units but it literally took around 6 hours to bring to a comfortable temperature. Hot water was ok but you barely get 8-10 mins so just be aware.
Dear Reece, thanks for your feedback, which we very much appreciate and take seriously. We have a lovely new bed, mattress and lovely bedding on order, to be installed in the next couple of weeks. Best wishes Luana

Verified reviewIt was large and private, centrally located but not too loud. The roof terrace was a lovely spot to enjoy the bells and watch the crowds.

Verified reviewgood location - price-quality is good, considering the age of the house, it has charm, but the walls are peeling off a bit inside - it can be heated in winter, important for us, because in the evening in December it already gets quite cold - roof terrace is a great asset, you can enjoy the sun in winter
Bed too short although we are not exceptionally large. Lying stretched out meant downstairs with your feet against the bed end and with your head against the wood of the bed on the wall side - duvet too short and too narrow, you lay with your back or knees exposed when sleeping on your side. - 1 bath towel p.p. for 5 nights - only one dishwashing cloth in the kitchen - in kitchen: no 2 the same water glasses clean, orange glasses flake off!? - one pan heavily fried and unusable - because there are few plates, you have to run the dishwasher almost empty - a lot of consumption of water and dishwashing tablets - the dishwashing sponge smelled bad, so it was not usable - 4 floors means so many stairs - Devices: how do they work? No explanation, so a lot of trying before getting something to work.
Hi Els, thanks for your feedback. We take all feedback seriously and will look into every item. We do have a new bed on order in fact as unfortunately us Mediterranean's are quite small. Each room has an AC that can provide hot or cool air; we wrongly assumed that you could operate this and apologise. Hope you had a lovely holiday. Luana

Verified reviewLocation was fantastic Heritage building, nicely decorated
Bed is too short if you are 6’4 tall (no good for tall people) Not 1ltr of drinking water provided, have to go to the shop straight away A lot of internal stairs, which you get used to after a while
Hi Martin, Thanks for your feedback. We really appreciate it. Water is typically always provided, but since the check in time was communicated last minute, it was forgotten on this occasion. We truly apologize for this. We are also looking into changing the bed to something bigger to cater for taller people as at the moment it is a standard double bed. Best wishes Luana

Verified reviewWonderful location. Joe so helpful and full of information. The house is a beautiful old stone building in a quiet lane.
The kitchen wasn’t very clean. Lots of steep steps as is over 4 levels- great for a work out though.

Verified reviewWe enjoyed our stay a lot. Amelie is located perfectly not only to explore Rabat and Mdina (5mins walk), but also the whole island. You can either book a "Bolt" or go by bus. There are a lot of great restaurants around and the best pastizzi just down the street (crystal Palace). Joe picked us up and also gave us a lift to the ferry terminal when we travelled on to Gozo. He had a lot of good recommendations about what to do and where to go! Thank you :)

Verified reviewJoe was very kind, waited for our late arrival, and showed us everything. The old house was very nice and magical, and the terrace was absolutely awesome as well as the interior design. The kitchen was well-equipped, and there was a washing machine as well. The location was also perfect, very close to the old Mdina town.
There were a lot of stairs, so taking meals to the terrace was a bit annoying, but the lovely view was worth it. Parking was sometimes challenging during the weekend, and the sofa wasn't very comfortable. The water battery in the bathroom was way too close to the sink edge, so I couldn't wash my hands.

Verified reviewThis house is in a great location in Rabat and is a traditional Maltese house. The host Joe-is absolutely lovely and very helpful.
The house has 5 levels with a lot of stairs, so its not for anyone with physical limitations or young children. It is nicely furnished, but a little on the tired side.

Verified reviewMy stay at this accommodation was nothing short of exceptional. The host's father, Joe, was incredibly welcoming and always responsive to all of my questions and requests, making me feel right at home from the very beginning. The house itself was phenomenal. It’s a beautifully renovated tiny house, designed by an architect and interior designer. Every detail was meticulously thought out, making the space both functional and aesthetically pleasing. It was an absolute delight to stay in such a pretty and well-designed home. Located on a small, quiet street, the house provided a peaceful retreat at night. Despite its serene setting, it was just a stone's throw away from the main church, placing me right in the heart of the city. The central location was perfect for exploring all the local attractions, dining options, and shops. Overall, my stay exceeded all expectations. The combination of Joe's warm hospitality, the stunning design of the house, and its prime location made for an unforgettable experience. I would highly recommend this accommodation to anyone looking for a unique and charming place to stay in the city.
Thanks so much NJ. We are truly pleased you had a lovely time. Best wishes Luana

Verified reviewAmelie is a tastefully, recently renovated Maltese townhouse in the heart of Rabat. It is close to everything! And it has a gorgeous roof-top with outdoor longe etc. Joe, who welcomed us and showed us everything about Amelie is delightful. It was a wonderful place to return to every night after exploring Mdina, Rabat and surrounding countryside. Loved our stay!
Being 4 floors townhouse has a lot of stairs. OK for us sprightly mid-60 year olds, but may not suit all.

Verified reviewJoe met us at the airport and was very friendly and helpful. The property is great value for money and provides everything that you might need. It is on four floors (so not good if you dont like stairs) but for us it was excellent. The roof terrace was well used! Very short walk to Mdina, which is beautiful, and to the bus station for travelling across the island. Superb cafes and restaurants on your doorstep too.

Verified reviewWell restored and very pretty house. Location was perfect for exploring the island, rooftop terrace a lovely bonus. Bedroom our fave room - great size, well furnished, lovely with french door open and the sun/breeze coming through... Good shower, plenty hot water, super quiet at night, plenty free parking nearby, digital tv, lovely flooring, good decor, plenty spacious for 2. Some truly amazing sites to visit. Big thanks to Joe, our informative and really lovely host, for the airport transfers and tips!
Bed bottom sheet didn't fit properly so kept waking up on bare mattress which was irritating after a few days! We were aware of the stairs obviously and they weren't a problem really, although if you have short legs, some of them were quite deep, especially ones down to the kitchen... House is very (very) close to beautiful church = regular loud bells. Again not a huge problem for us, but worth noting if you are easily disturbed. We would have personally liked a few more utensils/different sized pans for cooking etc but guessing most folk eat out so not really a huge negative.
