How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
Guidelines and standards for Reviews
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

Verified reviewAbsolutely fantastic traditional Maltese house in the centre of Birgu. Davide and his Mum are great hosts who have thought of lots of little touches to make you feel very welcome. The house is beautiful with two big terraces overlooking the square and down to the harbour and Valletta. It has modern and very necessary AC and WiFi. Birgu is a fabulous location if you want to be close to but out of the bright lights of Valletta / Sliema etc. Just a €3, 5 minute water taxi ride over. Apart from the church bells it has a nice sociable hum without being loud.
Nothing significant. The bathrooms are a little small and water pressure is a bit low but otherwise it is a lovely property to base yourself in.

Verified reviewWe really liked the location — it’s excellent! The place itself is great, and the terrace is huge and very pleasant. We’re happy with everything, but most of all, we truly appreciated their kindness and hospitality. Highly recommended!

Verified reviewThe owner was very helpful, and the place was safe. We loved sitting in the big terrace with a beautiful view on the old city. The house is in the square of the city with many restaurants near it. I definitely recommend this house.
Nothing.

Verified reviewThe day before we arrived the hosts (Barbara and Davide) created a WhatsApp group and added me to it and gave us directions to the house and we could then let them know when we had landed etc. We got a short taxi from the airport to the house where Davide was waiting for us, he spend a half hour going through the house with us and making sure we was happy with everything in the house. The house was absolutely beautiful and immaculately clean, there was aircon in the bedrooms and living room and a large fan in the kitchen, the kitchen had all the condiments required for cooking and accessories, there was even fresh bread, eggs, milk, tea, coffee and wine waiting for us. About 15 metres from the house was Terrys convenance store, this was a small shop however it had a little of everything needed for a weeks stay for a family of 4, Terrys was open in the morning and then closed for the afternoon but open again for the evening. Also in the square by the house was a pastry shop for lunches and a few restaurants with very good food, 50 metres down the road to the waterfront you could get the small boats to Valletta for 2 euro per person. Also at the water front there was many more restaurants in both directions. We did not have a hire car so I used the taxi app bolt, I would get the cars to pick us up at the round about 50 metres from the house as it was easy for them to turn around, Bolt was great and cheap. Our most expensive Bolt was 17 euros which was to the waterpark half way across the island. Rinella bay was the closest Sandy beach, the beach itself was quite small however it was lovely to swim there as its quite shallow and you are facing Valletta while you swim which was really cool, this was only 5 Euros in a Bolt to get too. St Tomas Bay was great for swimming and had two sandy beaches, this also had all the water sport gear like jet skis and kayaks, we got some 2 person kayaks and went to the arch where we then went snorkelling.

Verified reviewThere is a lockbox on the front door, and it's very easy to get the key. The house is very clean, and have everything we needed. There is a great view of the terrace. The place is cozy. The boats to Valletta are just 2 minutes walk distance.
Everything was perfect, and I think that is impossible to find anything wrong with this place.

Verified reviewInteresting home. Great facilities, lovely hospitable hosts leaving coffee, tea, milk, jam, bread, cake and wine for our arrival. Very comfortable. Good a/c. And fantastic location. Great gelato around the corner. Would definitely recommend.
En-suite showers would benefit from higher pressure but didn’t detract from overall experience of the home.

Verified reviewWonderful historic Maltese stone home with great architecture, plenty of space for the 5 of us. Living room can easily be turned into a third bedroom. The multiple rooftops were really cool. We appreciated the snacks that the owners left for us.
Neighborhood was in the midst of being restored, vacant building across from us and the town square was under construction. When restorations are complete it’ll be a “10!”

Verified reviewLocation in Birgu was brilliant - in the midst of things without being busy. Although may get busier in summer months. Roughly 10 min walk to marina and ferry to Valetta. Excellent bus service to get you around. The home was beautiful, just what you would imagine a Maltese town house to be. Bedrooms were big, plenty of space and storage. Loved all the church bells early in the morning. Owners added lots of little extras that were useful, eg milk and water in the fridge, cakes and wine etc. especially as we arrived quite late in the evening. They thought of everything we may have needed, toiletries etc. The roof terrace was amazing, however - need to mention accessibility with lots of steps. Nearby shops and restaurants were great.
We would have to be very picky to find fault with the Property. Only thing was construction work was being done in the square. Would love to go back after this completed.
Many thanks. I hope in the future to back again. See you soon 🇲🇹🇲🇹🇮🇹🇮🇹Barbara and family

Verified reviewOne of the most beautiful accomodations we have ever stayed in. Amazing location - super easy access to Valletta via water taxi or ferry.
Water pressure in 3rd floor is quite low. There was a construction site on the plaza, but not too noisy.

Verified reviewVery friendly hosts (Barbara and her son Davide) We arrived early and were able to access the house and leave our suitcases until the cleaning was finished. The roof terrasse was a big plus. Milk, coffee, water etc. was very kindly provided for us.
There is an ongoing road work right outside the house and the workers start quite early. This is only a minor point though.

The house is situated just off the main square in Birgu and I felt like I had travelled back in time. The views from the 2 terraces was breathtaking. Little shops are dotted around the stunning village. Our stay in this beautiful house was something we will never forget. Thank you so much .
There was nothing to dislike at all. It was truly unforgettable.

Everything is thought out to be comfortable and made with love. The owner is lovely hospitable and caring. There was left everything for breakfast, bottle of wine, sweets, biscuits, couple of bottles of drinking water. The owner was available at any time, ordered a taxi for us. I highly recommend it!
