How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
Guidelines and standards for Reviews
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

Verified reviewLocation is perfect!
only 2 big towels were provided for the whole week, not enough for two people. The kitchen is handy, but it has no stove – even a small portable electric stove would make it much more practical. Small ants are in the area kitchen and loads of them.
Hi Aviva, sorry to hear about this! I’m available throughout and would have happily changed your towels if you’d asked. Also , I would have made sure to check about the ants and their source had I known! I really wish you were more communicative about this so that I could have solved it when it was an issue and not after the matter 😓 On the stove, It’s quite clear in the listing that there is no stove, maybe you missed it :/ again, I’ve got portable ones in case guests really want one. I advise to ask next time, I would have been more than happy to assist :/

Verified reviewEverything was brilliant! Just what we needed for our stay to visit friends.
Property was lovely! The church next door didn’t allow for a lie in bed as bells would ring at 8:00am. But can’t fault the property!

Verified reviewThe apartment was really lovely with great facilities. There were plenty of bars and restaurants within a short distance and the ferry to Valletta was ten minutes max on foot.
No problems at all with the apartment and I’m not going to complain about the bells from the local church being too loud because to me that’s part of why we visit these lovely places. I will however have a little moan about deliveries being made to a little store about 50 yards away. We were there for five days and they turned up between 4-30 am and 5am each morning other than Sunday. They would be there for probably ten minutes or so talking really loudly, sometimes you could hear music coming out of the delivery van as well. Very inconsiderate to say the least.

Verified reviewThis is a great place to stay. Birgu is a gorgeous locality and well connected to Valletta. The room is very comfortable.
I would suggest installing some cooking equipment, such as a hot plate, and a freezer in the fridge. Please be warned that at certain periods in the summer (just a couple of weeks, so not much), the town feast will be happening, and the noise can be deafening and for anyone with an intolerance to noise, this is crucial (techno party till 1 am just outside the property!).

Verified reviewthe property was very cozy and comfortable. Andrew was such a commuicative person with fast answering responses to any messages. He allows us to check in earlier which was helpful in our stay. Location of this flat is about 1/2 minutes to the bus stop which allows to travel to so much Malta’s spots:)

Thanks for your kind review!

Verified reviewNice modern looking apartment with many ammenities. A/C good enough to cool the apartment and keep it in a nice temperature at night. Close to Valletta if you have a car. Calm and historical neighbourhood.
Difficult to find parking with a car. The floor wasn't as clean even though the rest of the aparment was. Not many options around like minimarket, or breakfast spots. A loud church bell right across everyday at 07:00 am.

Verified reviewEverything was excellent. The location is amazing, flat had everything we needed and more. The interior is very stylish without taking away anything from comfort. The A/C was a saviour for spending the evenings after roaming the hot streets of Malta all day. Another thing we loved was the traditional Maltese balcony that is accessible from the room - great place to enjoy the view of the street. You can hear the church bells, but it didn’t bother us at all. Birgu Waterfront is a few steps away, water taxis were coursing until the late evening to get to and from Valletta, there are also bus stops nearby + Senglea can be reached through a pedestrian bridge not too far away from the flat. Checking in and out was easy and hassle-free. The host was also very kind and responsive. 10/10 overall!
Hi Goda! Thank you for your kind review and I’m glad you enjoyed your holiday in Birgu! Take care !

Verified reviewThe apartment was truly beautiful and authentic. It's a rarity to find a place that exceeds expectations in real life compared to the pictures. We were fortunate to personally meet the owner, who was exceptionally kind and provided us with numerous recommendations. Additionally, the city of Birgu is charming, and Valetta is conveniently accessible by ferry. If we return to Malta, we will certainly book this apartment again.
Everything was perfect. There was nothing we didn't like.
I'm glad you enjoyed your stay! You will always be welcome :)

Verified reviewWe had a lovely Christmas time there. The location is convenient, easy to commute to Valetta either by bus or a ferry. Some good pubs and cafés around with traditional local food, not to be missed. The apartment has all the essential things for a short stay. Andrew, the host, is very friendly and happy to help with any queries you may have. We recommend it.
